Oh, okay. That makes more sense. "iPhone" and "iPhoto" are quite different entities!

Frankly I was planning to get a new iMac later this year. I now will not.

Bob,
I would hold that decision off until after it comes out.
I am surprised that anyone that is beta-ing for Apple, who has signed a NDA, would make those types of disclosures. I agree with Dave C about the FUD, fear, uncertainty and doubt.
Daly,
I sincerely doubt that Apple would release an OS that would not work with current Apple apps, this soon after dropping Rosetta in 10.7. A lot of people had to buy new software for that one.
Dolores,
I believe you are still running 10.6.8, if so I would first figure on replacing anything that requires Rosetta. Until 10.9 comes out, there is no way of knowing. I would consider the age of any external accessories like printer and scanners, since they often need new drivers with an OS change.
You still have not told us what exact iMac you currently have. See my signature below. You may be able to just upgrade the OS. Why do you want to buy a new one?
In summary, any guess other than Rosetta won't work, is a rumor.

Hi
Good Day.
If you are badly in need of a Mac go for the current model.
If you are going for new Mac with 10.9 then consider the below:
1. Your existing printer or scanner may not be supported.
2. Third party plug-ins may not work , if you are using some video or audio editing software.
3. Sometimes external drives won't mount.
Iam on 10.9 numbers is working fine for me. But formulas in excel is not working. Most of the Adobe apps of CS5 and CS5.5 are not working.
Toast wont burn cds properly.
But I like App nap , tagging and multi Window.
Remember every OS needs atleast first one update to fix issue.

Quite. Speculating now is pointless. Mavericks is in a BETA state so it should be expected to everyone that there might be some niggles right now. Personally, i am willing to better they will be gone in the final version. It just makes no sense at all for intel applications that run fine in 10.8 to be dropped in 10.9 ...

Dave,
What you are calling Airport is actually WiFi. This has confused me and seems to have confused others. Airport Utility is an app, and Airport Base Station is Apple hardware. Other than that, Airport is where airplanes land and take off. I apologize if I sound like I am talking down, but if we all use the correct terms, then the communications are more effective.
When you got the "Connection to the server failed" error message, was the mini awake?
The signal bars just tell you there is a network it is seeing, not which network it is trying to connect to.
On the iPhone, open Settings/ Wi-Fi and see which network it is trying to connect to. If it is not your network, then click Other and enter in the name of your mini network. Click Security and click the type of encryption you used and then enter the password. You should be connected to your network.
If the above does not work, try turning off the encryption at the mini, when you create the WiFi Network and see if the iDevices can connect. Then let us know how that went. Then try turning on the encryption.

My main computer (mini) uses Ethernet so usually have Airport off.
I've done this:
1. Turn on Airport in my mini
2. Confirm Sys Prefs > Network shows Ethernet uppermost in the left column of connections
3. Confirm Sys Prefs > Sharing shows "Internet Sharing" is checked
4. Pull down Airport Menu and choose "Create Network", choose a network name & password.
The Airport menu bar icon now contains a small mac icon.
5. Open Settings > Wi-Fi in both the iPod Touch & iPhone and choose the mini wireless network
and enter the password when asked.
I receive a 192.168... IP address.
When checking mail on either iDevice I get "Connection to the server failed" error message.
The signal strength icon on the iDevices shows 4 bars (full strength).
Just as a another factoid, this iPhone and iPod Touch both work flawlessly when connected to various wireless networks I use at businesses and friend's homes.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

I never sleep the mini. 24/7 awake. And to confirm, I had been using it for hours, sitting in front of it, doing my daily multitask. No, it never went to sleep while I was making my latest attempt to get this network to work.

Yes it connects to my network. Or at least it seems to do so. I can choose the network from the list, enter the password. All seems to be fine except that I can't get any activity.
I will also add that it's not due to interference (ie, cordless phones or microwave ovens -- I have neither and neighbors are not close enough to give interference).

I stand corrected, I did not remember that 10.6.8 called it Airport. Thankfully Apple corrected that in 10.7.
The reason that it may not work is that it seems you are using an OS that what was originally sent out on your Mac mini. That could be a simple explanation as to why it does not work.
