LaserJet 4000 and Lion Problems
Posted by: "sanpanza" edward@carreonphotography.com sanpanza1

Hi folks, I am usually one of the lurkers here but I have a problem that Apple is not going to solve for me and was hoping someone here could be of help.
I have just upgraded my one laptop and desktop to Lion and bought a new laptop with Lion Installed. Previously, I could print to the HP Laserjet 4000N by using IP protocol but now I can't get any of the computers to print the the Laserjet.
Can anybody tell me a work around since HP does not support the printer any longer?
Thank you for your time and attention.

Howdy.
It's rather common that after a new system is installed that printing
problems can be fixed by doing a Reset Printing System command. This
is done in the Print & Scan (or Print & Fax) panel in System
Preferences with a right click in the printer list window pane. But
this does not seem to be your problem since it's a new Mac with Lion.
Try it anyway.
You might also try a manual setup, or addition, of your HP LaserJet
4000N. When you do this you can try one or both of the printer drives
that should be included with Lion for your printer.
1. HP LaserJet 4000 - Gutenprint v 5.2.3 (the open source driver)
2. HP Laserjet 4000 Series (the HP driver)
To add the printer driver and make a print queue you . . .
1. Open Print & Scan panel, then click plus button to add make a print
queue.
2. Click the IP icon on the Add Printer toolbar.
3. In the Protocol popup menu, click Internet Printing Protocol - IPP
4. In Print Using popup menu, click and from the long list find HP
LaserJet 4000 Series (or the Gutenprint one).
5. Enter 4000's IP address or name in the Address box, or try leaving
it blank.
6. Queue is usually left blank/empty.
7. Name and Location. Leave blank. However, in a large office this
can be filled in to help folks find one of many printers.
This might work!

I've checked and your settings are for no email so I think it's just taking
a while to take effect. I think this often happens with Yahoo Groups.

Hi folks, I am a professional photographer and shoot to card very often. As a general rule most of us full time photographers reformat our cards every time we put the card in the camera.
On the rare occasion when I have had file corruption I have used RescuePro put out by SanDisk to rescue picture files.

Oneal - do it whatever way you please. You always do, anyway.
We are all well aware of the capability of erasing files; we are merely repeating the manufacturers' universal advice that it is BETTER and SAFER to re-format the card in the camera regularly.

Of course, you told her that she should *not* allow Windows to access the
internet in *any* way (other than initial registration)?! If she was
allowing that, why?

I did tell her the facts about this machine. I believe it is in a Law
office that primarily uses Macs, but they need one Windows machine for
Government required uses or something. This has boot camp in it, but I
don't see any other OS except the Windows one.

So it was Windows-only? No OS X?

No. I was mistaken. OS X is there. It was just set to boot into
Windows automatically.

Exactly how do you do that Otto? I'm running Win 7 by virtualization using Parallels, along with Lion on my MacBook Pro. I still want any updates that are available for Win 7, but I suppose I can manually check for those. I've also got Microsoft Security Essentials installed, but am toying with the idea of using either Intego's Internet Security 2011 Dual Protection, or Bitdefender, as full fledged security software.

You know, I use Windows XP pro on this computer, have for about 10
years, I leave it on all the time, all I have is Microsoft Security
Essentials for virus protection, and I have never, I repeat, never,
gotten infected with anything. The people who get infected ALWAYS click
on something, either an unknown link in an Email, (stupid), or they
click on a fake warning in a web site, (stupider) or they are at Porn
sites and they download all the good videos (stupidest).
The biggest threat to Windows users is the operator!

I didn't realize there was even any way to make 2 distinct connections TO a Mini DisplayPort monitor.
So it automatically would be the terminus of the chain.

My husband has a new iMac with a Thunderbold port. On Craigslist we foudn a 20" ssecond monitor to add to his already 27" "real estate". But guy bought a combination of two adapters that let his old mointor connect to the Tunderbolt port on the new computer so the older monitor now happily acts as a second monitor to the newer iMac.
They definitely have adpaters I suggest that if you have access to an Apple Store, you just go in with the specs of the two devices. If you have no access, I recommend you either call Apple or use google to find the adapter yiou need.

The purpose of much slang, OTOH, is to set the user apart from the "common folk" as a possessor of special "in-group" knowledge. And emoticons certainly qualify.

Given that the "in-group" for emoticons is the large majority of everyone on public fora, their (proper) use hardly sets anyone apart.
In fact, I probably am partly "set apart" by my adamant non-use of the things.

Technically no, but for your own security, and legally and ethically you should.
The benefits beside the benefit of keeping the old owner's information and identity secure, are that the new owner will have a cleaner and faster system with more free space.

Does anyone have a frame removal macro for documents converted from

If anyone knows if it does, please can you let me know?
