Jim, I should have said that I also tried a wired sync, with the same results. :(

Sandy, I would uncheck each option (Photos, Music, Movies, etc) and apply so
that nothing is on the phone then sync back one item at the time. I had
this issue several times during beta the only way to get it back to 'normal'
is to get all the content off and start fresh.

I thought one of the purposes for icloud was to take the computer out of the equation. What gives?
I don't have reliable Internet where I live. When we need a full size computer we tether.

The purpose of iCloud is to keep your devices in sync their example was
moving the computer down to the "device" level so everything stays in sync.

"PC-Free" is set up, etc meaning you no longer have to plug an iOS device
into iTunes as soon as you take it out of the box.

I will not trust the cloud with my information. MobileMe was never working right for me.
So I must sync my data to my mac so I can keep backups of my contacts and calendar.
The only thing I will use iCloud for is email and Find my Phone.

totally agree, roger. what with all the stories about this server getting
hacked, that server getting hacked and all of the personal info they contain
being compromised it just amazes me how many people jump onto the iCloud
bandwagon the first chance they get. nobody can ensure my data is secure
better than i can.

using iMessage...how to....

Posted by: "T L" techlady04@yahoo.com   techlady04

Checking out Apple's website, it says iMessage is built in. iMessage is between apple products also.

Ok. Does that mean [perhaps over simplified here...] that the message will automatically know that it goes to an apple product....and will not be billed? Or am I just confused??

Thanks!

As long as the number or email address of the person you are sending to is
registered to a device with iMessage enabled it will go over iMessage - you
can tell because it will be blue (both the name, number, or email and the
message once sent) if it goes via SMS/Text it will be Green.

A few factors, you can have a group iMessage meaning everyone it is sent to
becomes part of a "group" that replies to all members, etc. If any member
of the group does NOT have iMessage it becomes a MMS, again keep an eye on
the color - Blue=iMessage, Green=SMS/MMS. If for some reason the iMessage
fails (they have data turned off, phone is off/not registering with iMessage
server) it will failover to SMS unless you have that opened turned off.

For iMessage to work both you and the other party currently have to be running IOS 5, and yes, your iPhone will automatically know that the other party has a device with IOS 5. The messages will be blue in that case, instead of the usual green colour.

It works over 3G, you only have to have WiFi for Facetime and iCloud backup.

Speaking of iCloud backup, why is there a "backup now" tab located in iCloud on the iPhone ? I thought the idea with iCloud is that it backs up your information automatically. It seems like if that tab is there you still need to tell it when to back up your stuff.

That is for manually, just like iTunes does it automatically when you
sync and you can still right click and do a manual backup at any time.

Sent from a mobile device, please ignore any autocorrected or

Read It Later export to Instapaper

Has anyone been able to export their Read It Later and import into Instapaper?

I see a Python script on the web to do this, but I am a neophyte with Python.

I wanted to see if anyone can help me with this...

Thanks,
Roger

I was going to say that Instapaper is one of the options I have when I click on the export button (along with Read It Later, e-mail, bookmark, etc.), but upon checking it a bit ago I no longer have that option. I'm using a 4s.

There is, however, an e-mail address associated with your Instapaper account. That is an option to save articles.

I was looking to move my enormous list of articles from Read It Later to Instapaper. But it doesn't look possible.

If you go into calendar on the iPhone and then into edit an appointment, if you switch the appointment from, say, being on the gmail calendar to the home iCloud calendar, what does that mean? That the appointment is now stored in iCloud instead of gmail?

AT&T does not normally respond to issues sent to them on My AT&T.app. They use it to fix blind spots and other issues, so if you want a fast response, then dial 611 on your iPhone.

Before you call them, have you confirmed that your friends have in fact sent you replies? Sometimes they get busy with other activities.
