I have done wifi syncs on both iPhone and iPad without plugging into anything. It works quite well.

I can sync mine to iTunes as long as I'm on wifi, doesn't need to be plugged in.

I plug my iPhone into power every night - at my bedside.
The computer with iTunes to which it is sync'd is downstairs.
The Wifi signal penetrates to my bedroom quite well.

In other words, the USB/30-pin cable plugged into your computer is not the only way of "plugging in" your iPhone for charging.

Yes, of course, but you have to get out the cable and connect it to
*something* so you might as well connect it to a computer and sync via
cable, which will be *much* faster.

Strange. That is *not* what it says on my phone.
On my 3GS running iOS 5, under Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync it
clearly says
"Automatically sync with iTunes on your computer when your iPhone is plugged
in to power and connected to Wi-Fi.

What does yours say?

Why are you switching? I have not looked into Instapaper much. Just got a Read It Later account because Zite has a button for it.

"Power off ... power on"

Did you briefly press the On/Off button, or hold it down until the "Slide to power off" slider came up?

In the former case, you only turned the screen off/put it to sleep.

If the latter, the next step would be holding both Home and On/Off buttons down until the Apple appears.

I did hold it down until the "Slide to power off" slider came up.

After a while I went directly to Mail and the screen was blank except for the bottom where the Write New Message icon was. I clicked on it, and nothing happened for a while. Then finally a New Message screen came up. I canceled it, then I went to a news app, touched the icon to send a link to the article that I was reading, and it worked!
Problem solved!

I feel better with information on the earth not on the cloud. Mobile me has worked fairly well as far as mail and calendars go.
For awhile I wasn't getting updates on my phone until I realized I had the settings improperly set. That is the biggest problem- the settings. One of my email addresses was "porned" last week. Disgusting to say the least. I had to get a replacement mailbox. I just couldn't get it set up probably... had to chat with roadrunner a few time. turns out the mobile setting for smtp has changed for new accounts. How was I supposed to know that? Finally got it all straightened out. It is the little things that get me confused and that are so time consuming to get fixed.

I'll be going to the cloud very soon, but I'll still back up things locally. I'm worried that someday CD's will be out, and that is a mistake. There needs to be a secure way other than that virtual cloud or HD that sometimes goes bad. It scares me that our medical records are going electronic. Maybe it has good points, but things always go wrong with electronics. I hope they have backups of backups. I know it is already costing a fortune for this implementation of medical records.

Getting new laptop this week, how to transfer iTunes?

Posted by: "Rich" thekellergroup@gmail.com   vjctyhrytuilhjkb

My old laptop is dying but I managed to get my iPhone 4S synced
and copied the iTunes directory and everything else to an external
HD.

Can I just copy the iTunes directory to the new laptop then install
iTunes and it will find everything?

Thanks,

Rich

Google "Moving iTunes" to a new computer (or drive) there is a fairly easy
step of setting the directory as the external drive and selecting
consolidate.

You don't say what operating systems are on both pc's.

I'll take it the dying one is Windows XP and the new one will be Windows 7.

Once you have your Windows 7 pc set up and have installed all your programs,
including iTunes on the new pc find Windows Easy Transfer and follow the
instructions, one of which is copying a file onto an external HD or Flash
drive which you run on your old pc.

This will get all of your settings and data from the old pc so make sure you
use something that will take all your data and settings. To find a rough
size of your minimum select everything in My Documents on the old pc and
press the application key then go up to properties and read the info on the
dialogue box.

Much easier that getting bits and pieces and it works great!

Now BEFORE you discard your old pc, the HD is probably still useable, unless
you know otherwise, which can be taken out and used with a usb caddy (around
£15) which you can use that had for some other functions, maybe as a back
drive for your new pc if big enough.

or....if the new PC is a desktop model just install the old hard drive into
the new pc after setting the jumper pins on that drive from 'master' to
'slave'. you'll then have two internal hard drives which is a good thing.
most modern PCs will have at least one extra 3.5" empty internal drive bay
for this purpose. the old hard drive should have a label on it showing the
correct jumper pin settings but if you're concerned about that then just
take it (or the old PC) to wherever you're getting the new one and have them
remove, set the new jumper settings and install it for you into the new
machine.

I have the Air since they didn't have the Plus when I bought it. I also had
a warranty replacement at 10 months so mine is only about 6 months old. I
plan on buying a Plus next time they have their 20% off sale just because it
has 25% power and weighs the same...

I have juice pack. At first it was great. But now after about 4 months when I try to charge it with the phone in it. It keeps turning on and off. It's annoying.

I would check the cable, I had this issue and cable was loose. I
emailed customer service and they replaced under warranty at no cost,
including shipping both ways.

Sent from a mobile device, please ignore any autocorrected or

That it's three weeks since the release. I still haven't received my iPhone and it's not even showing shipped. Mind you I ordered on the pre-release date. Ordered from AT&T. When I talk to in-store reps they act clueless.

I'm delighted you've found a solution, Jeff. :) I'm on a Mac, though, so that isn't going to work for me, and I haven't found anything on ASC to help so far. I'm off to the Genius Bar later this morning. If I find a fix, I'll tell everyone here what it was.

Contacts list Doubled

For some reason I now have a duplicated Contacts list. That is, two entries for each person. How can I undo this on my iPhone4/iOS5?

Thanks,
Joe
