WHEN i first went onto apple in the BEGINNING, I had an AOL account. So did my husband. We would like to change this, but apple won't let us. I can add another account, but it still wants to keep my aol account. My me.com account is with a different email password... is this going to be a problem if and when I upgrade to the next OS and Cloud and itunes?

If you're not keen with email then use the apple id where you've downloaded
the apps. Use this account with icloud.

So all I hear is great things and great profits, so why did the apple stock drop today (somewhat).
Can never seem to understand what makes the stock market go up and down!
Question I still have is, when will the next phone be out? I know the new phone has some great features, but
if I get it will the next one come out before I am eligible? Will it have even more goodies? Sometimes it is best not to rush into
it. Does any one have any speculations on this?
Right now, I may as well wait... the rush is still on to get this phone.
I am still trying to figure out how to get the latest itunes, cloud, os without screwing up everying I have on my computer, phone, ipad now.
This is causing me more work that I really was hoping for. It's also causing me some lack of sleep as I am trying to back up important files to CD (as well as my time machine and hard drive, eventually) just in case.

I heard that sales fell last quarter as people held off upgrading and
buying as rumors of the 4S coming out.

Helen:
Analysts predictions, and that's all they are, are quite often wrong when it comes to exact numbers. They knew sales of the iPhone would be lower prior to the new release of the 4S, but still kept their lofty estimates.
(This story has been posted on The Wall Street Journal Online's Market Beat blog at http://blogs.wsj.com/marketbe )at.
By Mark Gongloff
Apple shares are down 5% this morning, at about $401 , after the first Apple disappointment since the second quarter of 2002, according to FactSet data.
Investors are plainly not listening to Wall Street analysts, who continue to shower Apple with love this morning, suggesting the miss was perfectly predictable (although they didn't actually predict it) and only means Apple's next quarter is going to be even stronger.
Bank of America-Merrill Lynch analysts exemplify the standard analyst reaction to Apple's disappointing iPhone sales in the quarter, saying the third quarter is simply a victim of what will be huge iPhone sales in the fourth quarter:
Apple missed revenue and EPS due to an underestimated pause in iPhone sales ahead of the 4S launch. That said, we do not view this as a sign of softening iPhone demand. In our view, solid pent-up demand, combined with incremental unit sales from new carriers added in F1Q12 ( Apple deferred the new carrier addition to F1Q12 because of the iPhone 4S launch) should drive a healthy rebound in iPhone sales. We remain buyers of the stock heading into perhaps the most successful product launch in company history, with the iPhone 4S.

How do I escape from iCloud?
Posted by: "davidpriceuk" acuedit@fireflyuk.net davidpriceuk
Wed Oct 19, 2011 2:51 am (PDT)
When I first started using iCloud, it managed to corrupt the entries in iCal on my MacBook. The green entries, relating to my work, were changed to yellow, and all the recurring blue entries were changed to orange, while the non-recurring blue entries stayed blue. I had already used orange for a different calendar, so this situation was confusing.
This made me cautious about iCloud, and I decided to stop syncing with it, but found that a message came up on the computer saying that all data in iCal on my computer would be deleted if I unchecked the box relating to Calendars in the list. And this did happen, iCal went completely blank with no entries, but fortunately I was able to sync with my iPhone using iTunes and so restored iCal to how it had been.
A similar list of items appears on the iPhone. Most of the items are "Off" but Documents & Data isn't. If I try to switch Documents & Data off, I get a similar message saying that all Documents & Data stored in iCloud will be deleted from my iPhone.
What I want to know is: WHY? What is the reason for this? I've seen some comments in forums on the Apple Store site suggesting that this is some evil plan by Apple to keep you on the iCloud. I'm not sure I believe that, but I want to leave: if I switch Documents & Data off on my phone what will I lose?

It is 10 devices total, 5 of which can be computers. You can deauthorize or
remove one or more devices and authorize another to use it then turn it back
off if need me. I don't keep my work machine and home windows machine
authorized at the same time.

From your address book on mac. On deleting click to remove contacts. If that's not happening then select the group, select all contacts in that group and delete. Now delete the group.
From phone I guess it's in the same way. Not sure as I've not done it on phone.

Any Recommended FM Transmitters?
Posted by: "jiminmanjr" jiminmanjr@yahoo.com jiminmanjr
Wed Oct 19, 2011 6:52 am (PDT)
Stepping away from all the 4S discussion...
As the holidays approach, I'm asked for my "Christmas list." One thing I would really like is an FM transmitter to play my iPhone through my Jeep Wrangler stereo. From what I've seen, these things plug into the cigarette lighter, and the headphone jack. An FM station is dialed up on the transmitter and the radio, and then you can hear your iPhone through your car.
Does anyone have one of these? What brand? Does it work well, or would you switch?
I would like to even find something (if it exists) that allows for hands-free calling/talking, but that's not a requirement.
Thanks!

I use one by Belkin. It works well. I also use a visor Bluetooth by motorola. When a call comes in the iPhone automatically switches to bluetooth for the call. Works very well. When the call ends the iPhone goes back to playing music through fm transmitter. The fm transmitter also charges the phone.

I have a Jeep Wrangler and never found an FM transmitter that worked well. I got a new stereo that I could use an auxiliary cable with. The last new stereo I got for another car has a USB connection which works better. I think Roger P got a Bluetooth stereo that works well.
I'd stay away from the FM transmitters.

I recommend a Bluetooth stereo. I found a close out model at Best Buy. Total cost after install was about $150. It provides perfect sound. I hate FM transmitters. They don't work well at all.

After locking the stations in I removed the car antenna. That made a huge difference and now the iPhone sounds perfect. No interference at all.

There was a controversy a few years ago about those little FM transmitters. The early models could only transmit on four frequencies - 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, and 88.7. The problem is that many NPR stations are on those frequencies and they cried "foul". The FCC got involved, and apparently some models were over power. So - now all of the new ones are severely under powered.
Best scenario - get on eBay and see if you can find one of the Belkins that tunes the whole band. I see several on there right now - you want the white Tunecast ones. They can overpower just about anything but a local, and sound great. All of them have low audio modulation, but if you know what you are doing you can get inside and fix that.
The other thing you should consider if you know a bit about electronics is to install narrow ceramic filters in your car radio. I put up a web page about it several years ago:
http://www.mindspring.com/~brucec/ select.htm
A bit outdated now, but you can still get the ceramic filters from Digikey and Mouser. With a narrow ceramic filter, first adjacent frequencies to locals open up as places you can use your modulator, and as you travel you don't have to worry so much about changing channels.

iPhone settings changes

When I was closing iTunes 10.5, I got a message, "You have changed the
settings for the iPhone "iPhone". Would you like to apply these changes?"
What exactly does that mean? Does it mean something on the iPhone changed,
and it will apply the changes in iTunes? Or, does it mean I changed
something in iTunes and it wants to apply the changes to the iPhone? The
only thing I did was to update a few apps. Of course when I synced the
phone, it updated them. So if I were to choose "Apply", would it just sync
the phone, or something more? I chose "Don't Apply".

That's been a problem. I can't either.
