No, there isn't. What you can do, is move those apps you don't use to the last page on your iPhone. That way you won't see them.

On the gmail.com website setup a "filter" for Hotmail.com and it will

block all emails from it.

I think I read in this group there is a way to block hotmail from getting to
my gmail. I looked around the gmail website and even Googled but didn't
find how to do it. Is it possible to do? If so, how?

That was very helpful, thanks :-) There's one little tiny problem though. It doesn't matter if I put Hotmail.com in the From field or the search words field, all emails that have Hotmail.com in any part of the message gets filtered. What I'd like, is to have gmail just look at the From email address and delete all the Hotmail.com emails. Doing a test search, I get all the adult emails coming from Hotmail and 1 coming from our group asking a question about Hotmail.com. Any suggestions?

Waiting for items to copy?

Here's a new wrinkle. While performing a normal nightly sync/recharge, the backup goes smoothly through its several steps. When it reaches "Syncing Music to (my) iPhone, (Step 7 of 7) Waiting for items to copy," it just hangs up there. Disconnecting seems to do no harm, but it happens again. I've not added any new music to the phone or the synced libraries. This is a hard-wired sync, not over WiFi. Should I be concerned? It also seems to slow down the charging process, and there seems no way to abort the process, as there used to be. Thanks for any thoughts.

This is what happens to mine as well. I'm able to sync new music so when it
gets to that step and stays there, I cancel the sync by tapping the x in the
window in the middle of iTunes. If that doesn't stop it, I close out of
iTunes completely. So far it hasn't been a problem-as far as syncing stuff.

Just a wild thought - could you check your firewall or antivirus to see if it may be blocking the exchange ( if you are using windows). I have not had this particular problem but in the past had issues. Try turning off one or the other or both during that final step.

May be blowing smoke But may be worth a try before a complete restore.

I could swear I remember reading where there was a certain phrase you could put in the search window and it would list all your unread emails, but I can't remember it, and I can't find the instructions anywhere. Was it on this list? Anyone know how to do that?
Thanks,

iTunes match will match any of the songs you have, iTunes has it. The songs will be put in your iCloud stream. So, if you have any bad recordings, if iTunes has the songs, you will hear a good clean version.

No need to download a manual on how to use it. When it arrives, open safari, tap the book icon(which opens your bookmarks) at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down and you will see IPhone User Guide. The manual is built into every iPhone and I had no idea until a few months ago. I've been an iPhone user for over two years!
I know you'll enjoy it!

That requires being on-line each time you want to look at it. Fine for now &
then, but it's so much handier to have the manual d/l in your device.
If you're out & about you don't want to be taking the time (& data-usage)
to fetch it each time you need to look something up. Even if you're on home
(or other) wifi it takes longer to fetch each page than bring up in iBooks.

iPhone 4S consuming 50 percent less data than Android 3G/4G phones,

Posted by: "Bill Boulware" bill.boulware@gmail.com   boulware0224

Thu Oct 27, 2011 9:51 am (PDT)

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/9To5Mac-MacAllDay/~3/vhLLQFOgi60/

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: iPhone 4S consuming 50
percent less data than Android 3G/4G phones, Sprint says via 9to5Mac by
Christian Zibreg on 10/27/11

The nation's third-largest carrier, Sprint Nextel, yesterday reported
third-quarter earnings and their CEO Dan Hesse opined "iPhone is worth
every penny". We learned they pay a 40 percent higher subsidy to Apple
than the industry average, amounting to $200 more per device. In a
conference call with analysts, Hesse said "iPhone users are likely to
consume significantly less 3G than the typical user of a dual-mode
3G/4G device", Barron's reports. Was the iPhone's 50 percent lower data
consumption the reason why Sprint agreed to reportedly pay $20 billion
for 30.5 million iPhone units?

The publication quoted BTIG Research who speculate that if Sprint's
claims are true, "this could become a new key differentiator in Apple's
relationship with the operators that subsidize versus its competitors
HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc." How does iPhone save data on the Sprint
network? The truth is, we don't know yet. Optimization on the network
end tailored specifically to Apple's handset is one possibility.
Hesse's comment might also stem from a glitch causing slow data speeds
for iPhone 4S owners on their network. Also don't forget the
Apple-advertised twofold speed increase with the iPhone 4S only applies
to GSM 14.4Mbps HSDPA networks, meaning AT&T in the United States.

Both Verizon and Sprint iPhone 4S continues to be limited to the slower
CDMA 3G EVDO radio technology. Verizon is rolling out first-generation
4G LTE network in select cities (Sprint will begin a 4G LTE roll out in
2012) so 4G LTE Android phones on Verizon likely consume more data
compared to Sprint's iPhone 4S that runs on their 3G EVDO network which
is noticeably slower than either 4G LTE or AT&T's 3G HSDPA network.
Obviously well-aware that Android people consume more mobile data than
iOS, Google introduced new mobile data usage controls in Android 4.0
code-named Ice Cream Sandwich.

At the October 18 unveiling of Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung's Galaxy
Nexus smartphone, they touched on the new controls in the Android
software. As seen in the below screenshot, you can set warnings when a
particular threshold is crossed, see a projection of your future usage
based on your history and – most importantly – specify limit for
automatically cutting off all mobile data. Now, disregarding the
geekiness of the user interface for managing your data consumption in
Android, one could only wish for the most basic controls in iOS.
Smartphones use a lot of data, it's a fact of life.

Monitoring cellular data usage is paramount for those on tiered data
plans. It would be nice if Apple allowed its users to see an overview
of data consumption on a per-app or activity basis and set data
thresholds. While iOS lets you check cellular usage in Settings >
General > Usage > Cellular Usage, this is a far cry from understanding
your data usage and having the controls to better manage it. Apple, you
listening?

Bill, I don't know if you knew about SquareUp.com. They have an app (Square), plus they send you a free Credit Card Reader that plugs into the headphone jack of an iPhone. They only charge 2.75% for Visa, MC, Discover or Amex. That's it no other fees, no obligation, cancel at any time.

I've been using them since the end of April, and I have to say its the best credit card service provider I've ever used. Fast, inexpensive, easy... what more could anyone ask for?

I am not in business with SquareUp.com, and have nothing to do with them, other than being a satisfied customer for several months now.

Fwd: [apple-iphone] SquareUp.com Re: Authorize.net iOS App

Hi _ (no name listed!) - I have the Square Reader and have used it for
personal items here and there but my business uses Authorize.net as our
Online Merchant Processing and we process a lot each month and it is nice to
have an iPhone app to monitor and process using it occasionally.

Sprint CEO: iPhone Data Efficiency Is The Key To Continued Unlimited

Data Efficiency Is The Key To Continued Unlimited Data via TechCrunch
by Jordan Crook on 10/27/11

No one is more excited about the iPhone's availability at Sprint than
CEO Dan Hesse. And it's no surprise either, seeing that the carrier is
investing at least $15.5 billion over the next four years just to offer
the device to customers. That said, Hesse has been tooting the iPhone
horn as much as possible, taking special note of its efficient use of
data. He even went so far as to say that the iPhone's data handling may
quite possibly keep Sprint's unlimited data plans alive longer than
expected.

According to Hesse, the iPhone is better at picking up WiFi signals
than Android devices, making it easier for users to jump off their 3G
connection onto a network. This is, of course, great news to any
network as it unloads a good deal of traffic. In the same vein, Hesse
said that Apple's iPhone app requirements result in less data traffic
from apps, as they tend to employ the network less than other
platforms' apps.

"One of the beauties of carrying the iPhone is it extends the period of
time and increases the likelihood of us maintaining unlimited data
longer because it uses our network so efficiently," said Hesse in an
interview with Forbes. However, if smartphone adoption continues to
grow (especially at the rate it's growing now), unlimited data will
cease to be a feasible option for any carrier.

Photo Stream was designed with convenience in mind. The idea was that
you could take a photo, and it would push to your Photo Stream for
backup. You can see it there via other iOS devices, Mac or Apple TV.
Gotta love the iCloud.

Email sent folder?

Just got my 4S and loving it! I've been taking pictures and e-mailing them. I don't see a Sent folder in the e-mail app; is there one? I don't want it to fill up with unnecessary disk space usage.

Yes there is. On the screen named Mailboxes, there is 2 sections. 1 labeled Inboxes and the other labeled Accounts. Check the section labeled Accounts, click the name of the email account you want to look at and you should be taken to another screen listing the folders under that account. One of the folders should be your sent folder.
