Is there another player app that will play this file? and consequently
you could (if you haven't already) tried pausing at choice point and
then screen capture?
Other apps that could work for you (and you could try the demos):
Quicktime
FLVPlayer
MPEG Streamclip
Aimersoft Video Converter
VisualHub
iMovie
do you have FinalCutPro? maybe...
Surely something must be able to do that.
Remember though that your screen captures are pixel based on the number
of available pixels of your monitor, so full screen is important; the HD
quality is only there if you actually "extract" a clip from the source
file, which you could probably reduce to one frame, though you may need
two frames for the interlace to be applied, unless it's 1080p (progressive).

Do you mean Command instead of Apple?
Command-Shift-3.

I don't know about .mv4 files, but I just played a couple of .m4v files in Quicktime, and was able to use both <command><shift><3> and <command><shift><4> successfully to take screen shots.

I go:
User/Me/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies/Movie Name/HD Movie Name.m4v
I drag HD Movie Name.m4v to the Quicktime Player Icon in my Dock.
I am then asked to AUTHORIZE the movie to be played on MY computer,
even though I play it ALL the time in iTunes on MY computer.
This window picks up the second email address I use,
not the main email address for my iTunes account.
I have no idea what the password for this second address is with
either Apple, ITunes. I only use my main email address
for buying anything with Apple. So I say I can't remember my password.
It asks me and I agree to send me an email reminder. The stupid email
never arrives for this second email address on my iTunes account.
Why did I ever need a second iTunes account email address?
Why is this stupid authorization window picking up a second email
account and not my main original?
So, no, I cannot play this movie I downloaded from Apple in
Quicktime as yet.

I have 2 classes of .m4v movies at that location: shorter subjects that I have downloaded from YouTube or other legitimate websites, and commercial movies for which I purchased the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital copy version, and installed said digital copy in iTunes.
All of them play when dragged to QT, without requesting any authorization of any sort.
This is an iTunes Store movie download?
A commercial film, or what?

This week I bought the movie through iTunes on my iMac and downloaded the m4v file to my iMac and played on my iMac this past week anytime I want to.
But if I drag the HD m4v file to Quicktime app or even find the file in the Quicktime Open menu, I've got authorization issues on the same dang iMac I have played it all week long in iTunes.
The stupid authorization window keeps asking me to sign into a secondary email ID that I have deleted.
This may be some stupid issue with the motherboard that I had replaced on this iMac a year ago. The motherboard and iTunes are "strangers" maybe? I don't know.

Yes, but recent Apple keyboards have 'cmd' on that key instead of the apple
symbol.

Ever since installing Mtn Lion I have noticed a real problem using Mail 6.0 in that 'organize by conversation' seems broken compared to the last version of Apple Mail. Is it just me or have others noted the same problem? What I am now seeing is multiple orphaned posts on the same subject, and looking at the headers, I cannot see any difference between the orphaned posts and the ones that remained in the original conversation.

I actually have a wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad that I use everyday and I don't spend a fortune on the batteries at all.

I was wondering if there's a way to record video chats in other apps or sites, If so what are they and how do you record there? In past we used ichat to record. Thanks for your help!

My desktop computer is an iMac and I change spaces by pressing control and the right arrow keys on an extended keyboard. But I haven't figured out what the keyboard shortcut would be for the MacBook Air. I have tried different combinations and they don't work. Anyone have any idea about how to do that?
Also, I posted a message about Mail suddenly deciding without asking my opinion to arrange my messages according to sender rather than date every time I move back to my Inbox from a subfolder mailbox. I don't see a way in Mail preferences to have default sorting method. I know that I do occasionally change the sorting order in the sub folders but I want Mail to keep the sorting by date unless I tell it otherwise. This is a recent occurrence.
I am running Lion 10.7.4.
