My Droid Razr, my Nexus 7, and my wife's non-Android phone (just a plain
phone, not even a smartphone) all use micro-USB. I don't have to hunt for
several cables and adapters to charge all these devices.

My iPod Touch 4G works for me. It works with the stereo in the living room
(iPod dock) and the portable speakers (also an iPod dock). I wasn't
planning on upgrading to an iPod Touch 5 and now that they require a new
adapter, I never will upgrade. One tech site quoted someone as saying that
they have so much invested in Apple that it will cost over $1,000 for him
to upgrade everything to the new system.

Yeah, Apple does have "standardization". If I want an iPod case, I can
just walk into the store and get an iPod case. If I want an iPod dock, then
I just have to ask for an iPod dock. The iPod series may be the most
popular portable music system, but that does not mean it is the best. :)

Cool, thanks. I managed to do it! Here are some
related links I found for others' interest:

I used diskaid, which isn't free for music xfers,
yet is for file xfers, which gives you access to
music too! Perhaps less metadata gets xfered, but
that's ok. Maybe I should've tried Senuti - the
last link above...
