I will be getting a new 512GB SSD for my MB Pro from Crucial on Monday, and I want to use a clean install of Mountain Lion. As such, I am wanting to save my Mail Data to one of my backup drives, and then later move the data back onto my new SSD. I tried, but could not locate my Mail Data using Finder, so I used EasyFind to locate that data, and EasyFind shows the following path to the data here:

Nicholas > Library > Mail > V2 > MailData

The problem is that when I attempt to locate those files in Finder, the path that EasyFind shows, does not seen to exist in Finder. For instance, I have no "Library" folder listed under "Nicholas". Even if I do a search on Finder for "V2", it cannot locate that folder.

What am I doing wrong with respect to locating those files in Finder?

The V2 folder is the one you want; don't go any deeper. To get there, do the following: with Finder active, and holding down the Option key, go to the GO drop down menu. You'll see Library. Select it and you'll be taken to your Library folder. Navigate to Mail and you're there.

There is a little app called Lion Tweaks (or Mountain Lion Tweaks), that will give you the option, among others, of showing the Library folder all the time. It's donation ware. Im sure there are other apps out there that give you the same option, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Thanks John... That did the trick.

But I do have Library Folder always showing, but there is no "Mail" folder directly within the Library folder... that is unless I access the Library Folder in the manner you suggested. Why is there a difference in my Library Folder, all dependant on using, or not using, the Option Key/Go Menu first to access it? That is the part that I find very frustrating about Apple's filing system.

In any case, I do appreciate your help John.

You actually have three Library folders: one is at root, one is in system, and the last one is yours. I think the one you are seeing all the time is the one at root.

Well, you have Apple's Safari, of course. Firefox is also still a favourite
but you could also try Camino and Opera. Why not give them all a try and
see which you prefer?

BTW if the mini is new, you can get a free upgrade to 10.8 (Mountain Lion).

I guess its a matter of personal preference.

I like Chrome. Not resource hungry like Firefox.

Agreed and Chrome, Omniweb, iCab, Anonymous Browser Pro, SeaMonkey, Maxithon, Lynx...

I use primarily Safari, Camino, Chrome and Opera for various reasons in different settings.

Another worth looking at, especially if you have a PPC Mac, is TenFourFox.
This is a essentially Firefox optimised for the PPC Macs. I mostly use
Safari, though.
