Just bought an airport extreme for my power Mac G5. Installed fine and computer saw it just fine the problem is it finding non airport networks. There is a belkin router upstairs that my gateway laptop running vista can see but not my G5 power mac. I do have an airport extreme base station I can try but wanted to see if I can connect with the Belkin first.

Suggestions??

A Belkin router works/has worked fine here with several Macs. Is the SSID
hidden or could it be a range issue? Does nothing appear in the AirPort
menu?

Hello group,

Has anyone downloaded and used MacUpdate.com before?

If so, what are your thoughts on it?

That is a web site. How exactly would one "download and use" it ?

I've used it for about 2 years. Mostly it's a reliable update service for apps, pref panes, and widgets not handled by the App Store, but sometimes I find that they get a few false update notices and sometimes miss a few. Overall, not bad.

Hi,

Has anyone purchased Apple's new EarPods yet? What are your views on them - worth the hype?

I don't know about the new ones, but I do just fine with the old ones.
Maybe it's because my ears are old too. :-)

Besides, I don't *want* to shut out sounds around me -- especially if I'm
out & about. Survival needs & so on.

If I get a new device they come with, or someone gives me a set for
Christmas, I'll be interested in how they are -- but I'm not going to
buy some "just because".

The Sept 13 recording of the iPad Today podcast did a very favorable review of these, to the point that I am going to get them.

After a walk around our local lake, my iPhone4 earbuds were on the bottom of the lake probably out around the deepest end. Whatever ear it takes, I don't have them. They would not stay in my ears. jr

I got a pair with my new iPhone, they sound good to my tin ears and feel comfortable.
They have gotten good reviews as well.

Are these the old-style earbuds? The type that not just Apple, but Sony and
all the rest, assume will fit everyone? The ones that just hang in the ear
(but only for people with the right shape ear) and leak sound so that you
annoy anyone within 30 feet?

The left one falls out of my ear. They're more comfortable than the old standard issue ear buds, and they do sound better, but clearly they didn't scan my ears before making their molds.

The other Apple phones (the one with the silicone cushions) work quite well for me.

I'm planning to return my Ear Pods.

I bought a Linksys router from Cisco the beginning of June. I noticed that the internet was very slow a few weeks ago and asked support for help. The woman told me to change a setting in the software (before I had upgraded to Mountain Lion) and that seemed to improve things a little, though I still could not get a decent signal at the other end of the house, about 60 feet away.
I noticed within the past few days (after upgrading to 10.8) that the download speed was once again very slow. It appears that the router software is not compatible with OX 10.8 and they give no help in updating the firmware after ninety days nor do they notify you that a firmware update is necessary.
I want nothing further to do with them. Any suggestions for a different router? We have two desktop computers (one still using 10.6 and one upgraded to 10.8.2(when it finishes downloading) and a laptop using 10.8. I would like to be able to use the laptop at the other end of the house but the signal is very weak and of course I would like to have the download speed I am entitled to from my IP.
Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

The most dependable router I have ever used is the Airport Extreme from Apple. It's also the easiest to use.

For some time now I have been using both the Linksys router and the Airport Extreme.

Both work well with the AE much better.
