Boot from the install disc. On the Utilities menu, you'll find "Reset Password."

Following up on some earlier threads (and correcting an impression I might have given earlier).

You can upgrade any Intel Mac to Snow Leopard or Lion. Most can run Mt. Lion, but a few early graphics card are not compatible.

So, can you get there from Tiger. Yes!

You CAN skip directly from Tiger (10.4) to Snow Leopard (10.6). You do NOT need Leopard. While Snow Leopard will not "upgrade in place" from Tiger, you can do a clean install. At this point, you SHOULD be doing a clean install anyway.

This matters because it's very hard to find Leopard "retail" discs anymore but Snow Leopard is much easier to find. The pricing has become a bit stupid on what's left of Snow (about $80) but you should be able to find it for $40. Ask all your friends first. There are not limits on the individual discs and there are a lot of copies out there.

OR skip from Tiger all the way to Mt. Lion (or Lion if Mt. Lion is not an option). This is a bit trickier because there is no Mt. Lion retail disc. You need to find a Snow Leopard machine you can use to run log into the "App Store" and download Mt. Lion, but don't install it! Instead, make an installation disc. Instructions can be found all over the net.

Cheers,
tod

P.S Pre-intel machines can only upgrade to Leopard, which, as mentioned, is hard to get. On older machines, Leopard may be slower than Tiger.

I'm finding that some of my emails aren't being delivered. For example, of the recent posts on this list covering multiple instances of Franks post, I only received 2 (although I got at least 4 copies of the original post). Can the moderators tell me if any of the missing items have been bounced back to the list?

Within the past two days I have determined that an email sent by a friend has not arrived in my mailbox and it has neither been put in my junk file, accidentally trashed, nor separated out as spam by my ISP.

Thanks,
...............Mike
