Another radio show that might interest members is Tech Night Owl. Kirk
McElhearn (Macworld, Kirkville, iPod group, books) and Daniel Eran Dilger
(Roughly Drafted) are often guests. The latest show is

Interesting.

Another article I read today mentions that there are hundreds of millions of people in China awaiting the iPhone 5.

Maybe an exaggeration?

Asked Apple about this, as it wasn't working on my 4, and they said it does *not* work. Only 4s and 5.

Anyone know about latest Touch? (4th gen)?

My wife is using mine right now so I can't try it out.

From Apple's web site.
Flyover is available only on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 or later, and iPod touch (5th generation).

Rats. Had that feeling.

Same as Siri on the Touch, 5th gen only.

Time to either upgrade or go iPhone 5.

:-)

Thanks.

My original Mac Pro died while still under Apple Care.

It was replaced with an Early 2009 Mac Pro, just weeks before the 2010 models were announced.

I thought I was getting a NEW machine. Turns out it is a refurbished machine, after two years it still shows up in the Apple Care database as being owned by a business in Austin Tx.

I am beginning to have problems with the new machine and in reseating cards as directed by Apple Care I noticed that the RAM is labeled NYNEX. Does anyone know if this is genuine Apple RAM, or maybe something the first owner of the machine put in that was not replaced during refurbishment?

I apologize in advance for being slow to respond to any replies to this message. I am running most of the time on a clean copy of 10.7.5 with no mail configured and internet turned off for testing.

To me, it would be a matter of staying after the Applecare folks.

I've had machines replaced for just the same type of repetative problems.

A refurbished Apple supplied machine is warranted as new, however, a replacement machine will just resume the Applecare term where the old policy left off. At least thats what happened in my 2 replacement machines

Harry

I opened the Apple Care case on my first machine with 36 hours left on Apple Care. Problem was with not sleeping (new machine problem is not waking up). I had the time so spent three months and about 100 support person hours before the Mac Pro was replaced. Nothing was mentioned about refurbished when the replacement was arranged. I was able to purchase a full three years of Apple Care so I guess it is a refurbished machine.

I have my Canon printer connected to my iMac. We use a wireless router which is serving both my iMac and my wife's MacBook Air. Printer sharing on the iMac is turned on but even though the MacBook says it is printing nothing it happening. I read elsewhere that this may be due to the MacBook using the generic driver while the iMac has the official Canon driver installed. Since the MacBook Air has no disk drive I can't load the Canon driver (even if I could find the disk :-/).

Can anyone suggest a work-around or point me to a better explanation and remedy?

Darrell McDonald

PS - both machines are running Lion and up to date on software.

Hey Gurus,

I can play videos from apple's website and other sites, but not from You
Tube. It says; "loading" but never loads. No error message, just doesn't
load and play.

I can play them from You tube using a guest account. Can I fix this or do
I have to take it to Genius bar as the phone support person suggested?

Thanks

So many times, when I write to this list, it's with a question or complaint.

Right now I want to write a cheer!

After much thrashing around trying to get a 1 year old HP printer to work with my new Macbook Pro retina running 10.8.2, I finally called HP and asked whether it should - says it does on the website, but they confirmed that the drivers don't exist for OS 10.8 yet.

So I ordered a new printer. It arrived today and when I went to install the software, it gave me a message that it was incompatible with OS 10.8. Only compatible up to 10.6

Called customer service, got a lovely person right away who walked me through finding the correct driver online and helped with the installation (not that I needed help - it was all very clear).

Now have a working printer, and it makes the loveliest copies!

So, if anyone has purchased the new Macbook Pro retina and needs a referral for a working printer, the HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP works beautifully. Their customer service was outstanding.
And, if you have had problems getting a printer to work and call their customer service line, they might just offer you a nice discount - they gave me $50 off which was better than the price at Costco.

Tada!

(happy dance)

Patti
