Your explanation makes good although I didn't have this issue with the former model.
I can see the Touch being slower in receiving but not to receive some at all seems curious to me.
One category of mail the Touch will not receive is what Eudora categorises as "Junk".

I know my emails that yahoo classifies "spam" apple places into a folder called "Bulk", which it will show if I go back and choose Yahoo under accounts, not yahoo under inboxes.
