Thanks so much, the Brother page is most unhelpful. My error message is not mentioned anywhere.

Did you miss my e-mail to the list? I gae the direct URL to download the manual, the page the error message appears on, and what it says it means and what to do about it.

Dear Randy,
Yes, my reply referred to that, the Brother page I had found myself was a different one and said nothing about it.

Josephine,
That message may mean a number of different things...
Your inkjet nozzles may be hopelessly clogged, especially if the printer has been idle for any length of time. I'm not familiar with your printer, but some printers have print head nozzles packaged with the inkjet cartridge, where others have separate, permanently installed nozzles. If you have the former, try replacing the old cartridge(s).
Printers often have a separate little program utility that runs the nozzle cleaning operation, either automatically, or when called on by the user. If you upgraded your OS, perhaps the utility needs to be updated to work with your OSX version.
Also, try turning off and unplugging your printer for a few minutes. Then plug it back in, restart and try again. Sometimes, printers do weird things.
Not sure if this will help, but they're worth considering.

Perhaps my experience is not typical, but I bought the latest Tech Tools Pro about 3 or 4 months ago and it royally screwed up my drives when doing some of their drive maintenance routines. Everything was fine before running TTP6, and my problems surfaced immediately after using it. I asked for and received a refund, then removed it from my computer completely.
Luckily, I had good, current backups created before running TTP6 and restored my system, so all is well. Based on my limited experience, I can't recommend Tech Tools Pro. I'm sure there are others who have had good success with it, but not me.

> I can tell you that defragmenting a hard drive is a very disk intensive operation. If you have a hard drive that is already on its last legs, the operation might drive it over the edge. You may have noticed that a number of users always seem to report that upgrading to a new version of the Mac OS killed their hard drive. It's the same thing. Many users try upgrading their OS, or defragmenting their hard drive, to cure a Mac that is acting flaky. (The flaky behavior being a sign that their hard drive was already about to fail.) So, you would expect a certain number of hard drive failures when using iDefrag. The recommendation is that you have an up-to-date backup of your drive before running iDefrag.
