How about a nice long Cat 5E or 6 ethernet cable to connect to your
router? The better grade of cable, the better quality of signal with
less interference. Probably faster than the wireless link and definitely
more secure too. I understand that a surface wire is somewhat unsightly,
but if you can fish it through your walls, then that would be the best
option. You can run such cables through air returns (not hot air vents)
if you have such things (not everyone has central heating with ducts,
some have electric baseboard heaters). A wall switch plate or phone jack
cover screwed to your wall is an ideal cosmetic coverup for the hole in
your drywall.

The way I have it set up, the cable goes to the router and then to the computer. I don't think the signal would reach the router downstairs wirelessly,

I've tried the repeater route and got tired of replacing routers. Seems
using the repeater function has a tendency to burn out the transmit side of
the wireless antenna.

I solved the issue by purchasing a pair of power line adapters. The power
line adapters use the electrical wiring in the house to extend the Ethernet
signal. One adapter plugs into the router with an Ethernet cable and then
into the electrical outlet near the router. The other adapter plugs into
the electrical outlet in the living room and then I have an Ethernet cable
plugged into any device needing connectivity. I actually have a power line
adapter in the living room that has a 4 port switch to plug in the xBox,
satellite receiver a VoIP phone and Mac Mini.

Here Is a link to what I am using
http://www.netgear.com/home/products/powerline-and-coax/high-performance/XAVB5004.aspx.
They also have units if you only need one Ethernet connection.

I need to upgrade iOS from 4 to 5 on a device using a different
computer than its original "paired" one. I do have the authorization
for the original, so have been able to pull the apps off it, but
there seems no way to get the music from it to the computer! Crazy!
Is it possible?

thanks

> I have the new Retina Display Macbook with an SD drive. I want to make sure my space on that drive is not too high- I remove programs I am not using onto a external drive frequently- I use dropbox and other off site as well as external drives so I back up everything several times. I have a clone and I also use Time Machine.

The operating system and the software on the machine just see an SSD as "just another drive" -- just one that happens to be VERY fast.

There is a $20 piee of software that you can try for free called KeyCue:
<http://www.ergonis.com/products/keycue/>

Tap the command key twice, and KeyCue shows you ALL the menus and their hotkeys for the currently active program.

When I open Safari the Plugin of LastPass still remain.

Several attempts have been to delete them no avail.

Anyone with a solution?

I have a Retina Display MBPro. My wife has an Intel Core 2 Duo.

After this morning's product intros, I went to Apple's website and clicked through to the iPhone information, features section, then to the section on Maps and clicked the link "Learn more about Maps."

On her laptop, the page loads correctly. On mine, regions of the screen alternately appear and disappear, and chunks text alternately display correctly or as black blocks encompassing the rectangular area needed to display each character.

Anyone else have a retina display MacBook Pro to test this?

Thanks so much,
Jim Robertson

Never mind the link request, I found it - looks fine on my retina MBPro. Sounds as if you may have a problem.

Maybe it affects only people with certain last names :-)

I tried switching graphics processors -> no benefit.

I rebooted (the machine spent a LONG time with the spinning wheel before rebooting), and after the reboot, the artifacts were gone. I spent a few moments on another site just before rebooting, and text links were similarly affected there.

So, some gremlin that was (at least temporarily) expunged by the reboot.

If you talking about the Image Retention it only effects the LG Retina
Screen and the early models. I had the problem with mine and asked for a MBP
Retina but with the Samsung Screen. No more problems and I think the Samsung
one has a sharper and better display then the LG Screen. I sure by now all
those problems should be fixed.

A clumsy dork....ME dropped the laptop from a foot or so. The bottom of the
battery pack dropped off and the contents began hanging from the laptop.

I reassembled the battery pack best I could, didn't see any broken wires etc.
Lightly glued it back together. When I check battery charge I'm getting 5
green lites.

But the battery isn't recognized by the laptop. Battery icon has an X in it,
and No Batteries Available displays. Laptop appears to work okay with power
adapter, thankfully.

I've ordered a new battery but would like to know if this one can ever be made
usable. It's only a couple months old.

So for the question. What is the pin wiring on the battery, which pins are
ground, which should have a certain voltage? Anyone know how to check these?
At 6600mah I think it's the largest one available.

Dan
