Following a series of changes made to its iTunes terms and conditions and App Store Review guidelines, Apple has this afternoon emailed developers with additional details regarding the new ‘Kids’ section in the App Store. The email describes the new category as a place where parents can go on the App Store to find age-appropriate apps and games for children. For years Apple’s developers were allowed to register up to a hundred iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices for app testing and ad hoc distribution, as long as they paid their $99 annual membership fee. But large development teams have always been complaining how Apple’s policy poses a serious problem with complex projects involving several dozen individuals who actively participate in the software development process. These development devices are indispensable for testing purposes. For example, third-party developers routinely provide me with beta builds of upcoming apps and updates, which requires registering my device’s UDID via the developer’s account through Apple’s iOS Dev Center. Previously, developers could register up to a hundred iOS devices per account and now Apple is starting to double the number of devices developers can use to for ad hoc distribution to 200 iPhones, iPads or iPod touches per account…(...) Games developer Lucid Games hinted at the upcoming 2K Drive back in May. Today, publisher 2K Games has officially announced 2K Drive, the upcoming premium (forget about the premium nonsense, you’ll pay for it upfront) iOS driving simulation. A crossover between an arcade game and a racing sim, it sports a RaceFace feature where you model your own face onto in-game characters. Apple is in the early stages of building its long-rumored television set, working with glassmaker Corning, Foxconn, G-Tech Optoelectronics, Foxconn, and Innolux, according to a new report out of Taiwan this morning. Citing supply chain sources, the outlet says that the companies all met two weeks ago in the US to discuss the production of Apple’s so-called iTV. In the weeks and months leading up to Apple’s upcoming September 10 announcement, the colorized iPhone 5S rumors intensified. Yesterday, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo analyst wrote in a note to clients that he has reasons to believe one of the several color choices includes a brand new golden colorway. Some interesting research is out, indicating that some iOS users tend toward the iPhone, while others are more likely tapping away at the iPad. While mobile advertising analytics firm Flurry gathered the data to help companies better target their apps and ads, the findings are intriguing for us all. Of the various ‘personas’ tracked, so-called ‘Value Shoppers’ (those bargain-hunting souls) are most strongly attached to their iPhones, while ‘Pet Owners’ prefer the iPad. It seems that with all of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and iPad 5 chatter over the last few months, that talk of a new Apple TV-related product has faded into the background. The last TV-related rumor we heard said it was going to be late 2014 before we saw anything. But that may not be true, according to Apple insider MG Siegler. Back in 2011, a suit was leveled against Apple of California, alleging its tight control of the App Store and the way it handles third-party software distribution for the iPhone constitutes a monopoly. The plaintiffs charged consumers can only get apps only from the App Store due to Apple’s decision to shut out thrid-party app stores on its platform. Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland, California, dismissed the suit over a procedural blunder. The plaintiffs, the ruling explains, have failed to prove they’ve been "deprived of lower cost alternatives” or “paid higher prices for Apple-approved applications”, or had their iPhones “disabled or destroyed”…(...)
