Yes, the vipers nest may not move, but the WiFi receiving devices do. And if the signal does not improve when you move to the vipers nest, then it is probably the WiFi.

But one of the power warts might be failing, or starting to charge when the signal drops. Would you rather move the AEBS, or test each and every possible combination of power wart and every other electronic device down there? I'd take the easy one and move the AEBS.

I've been away from home for the weekend; my family know better than to dive behind my desk. When I get home tonight I'll take the "deep dive" back there, try to decipher whatever identifying information I can find on my cable box, and also try to wrest my Airport Extreme Base Station from the rats nest to lessen the likelihood of rf interference with its signals. My uninformed speculation is that rf interference is NOT what causes my periodic problem with WiFi transmissions, because my "vipers nest" doesn't change (it may LOOK like a den of snakes, but they're not capable of movement!).
