Roland Zoss transferred Xenegugeli, which is being used successfully in many Swiss preschools and elementary schools, to the iPhone and iPad. Now the complete work of art, which was compiled by approximately 50 artists, is being newly released - in four languages.

Since 1999 children have come into first contact with the alphabet, thanks to Xenegugeli. The well-known Swiss songwriter and author Roland Zoss devised the animal ABC, which was highly successful in book and song format. In 2009 Xenegugeli was one of the first ABC's available as a mobile app. Learning the alphabet on the iPhone is a whole new concept.
Xenegugeli is now ready to go into the next round. The app "ABC Xenegugeli" has been completely revised and is being newly released. Xenegugeli, which was honored multiple times by educators, is available in English, Spanish, French and German.
Preschool and elementary school children may use the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad to learn the letters of the alphabet. Even older children, students and adults can have fun with the app - perhaps when learning a new foreign language.
ABC Xenegugeli: Animated animals, superior music, traceable letters:
At the start the app displays the X-animal on the screen and music can be heard. A simple swiping motion lets the first image appear - naturally one that starts with A, the first letter of the alphabet.
The animals, which are presented to coincide with the letters, change. A total of 42 animals are called into action, artfully designed by Holger Schopflin. The app presents a letter to coincide with the animal image. It pronounces the animal's name and repeats the initial sound in classical and phonetical fashion.
When the children tap on the image twice it turns and displays the matching uppercase and lowercase letter. After that it is all about the correct way to actually write the letter. Numbered arrows show how it is done. If the children successfully trace the letter with their finger, or better yet with a stylus, the letter turns green.
When the card turns around again the child is presented with a reward. The drawn animal becomes animated and is accompanied by a song clip. The app includes 42 song clips by songwriter Roland Zoss. A complete set of music regarding the animals may be downloaded as album from the iTunes Store. It is available in four languages.
Roland Zoss: "Kids love the app. They want to see the animals in action again and again. By doing so, they learn all the upper and lower case letters in no time at all. The complete journey through the alphabet takes approximately 40 minutes."
Separate versions of the app are available in English, Spanish, French and German. The apps are a great tool for adults, older children and students to learn the alphabet of a foreign language. For teaching purposes the letters can be projected directly onto a canvas. The original picture book containing colored pencil drawings by Holger Schopflin, a CD in Swiss dialect as well as lyrics may be purchased for CHF 29.00 in bookstores and from the author. The remaining ABC songs and eBooks are being offered in the iTunes Shop.

ABC Xenegugeli 1.3 (130 MB) is available in the iTunes App Store as a universal app for the iPhone and iPad. It can be found under the category "Education". The app requires iOS 5.0 or higher and has been adapted to the new dimensions of the iPhone 5, as well as high definition displays. It is priced at $4.99 (USD). A completely free, lite version is available for testing purposes. ABC apps do not contain any kind of hidden costs.

Teachers around the world are already using ZipGrade for formative assessments, weekly quizzes, chapter tests, and exit tickets. With several, free answer sheet formats available for download at ZipGrade.com, teachers can create answer keys for up to 50 questions. The answer sheets themselves are available under Creative Commons (BY-NC 3.0) and can be freely distributed and incorporated into other materials.
