OtterBox wins $2 million court victory against counterfeiters Posted: 20 Aug 2013 05:36 PM PDT Counterfeiting is a major problem that all brand-name manufacturers have to deal with—whether they make clothes, jewelry, bags or, as Apple could certainly attest to, electronics. It’s a tough issue to fight, too, and companies rarely get restitution. But that’s not the case this time. Popular Apple accessory-maker OtterBox has just won a major victory against a New-York-based company. Not only did a US District Court judge issue a permanent injunction, but it awarded $2 million in damages…(...) Nokia’s Lumia 925 ads take jabs at iPhone’s low-light performance Posted: 20 Aug 2013 03:45 PM PDT Apple’s iPhone 5 is far superior to the iPhone 4S/4 in terms of the camera performance in low-light conditions. The industry hasn’t stood still either and has been inching forward since last September’s iPhone 5 debut. Specifically, Nokia’s high-end Lumia smartphones have emerged as the mobile imaging devices to beat. Its culture rooted in mobile imaging, Nokia felt compelled to challenge Apple’s iPhone with a series of Lumia ads that criticize the Apple handset’s relatively poor low-light performance compared to the Lumia PureView range. It started with a rather bizarre ice-breaker ‘Zombie’ ad which set the overall tone two months ago. Then came Nokia’s take on Apple's ‘Photos Every Day’ ad and now two more commercials have arrived to proclaim the Lumias the king of low-light mobile imaging…(...) Phlo brings its multi-site search tool to iOS Posted: 20 Aug 2013 03:27 PM PDT If you’re like me, you perform a number of searches on the web throughout the day. And not just on Google either, but Wikipedia, Twitter, YouTube, and various other sites. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could search them all at once? You can, actually, using Phlo. The app, which launched for the Mac earlier this year, allows you to search all of the above-listed sites (and many others) in a single go-round. And now you can do it on-the-go with the new iOS app…(...) "Phlo brings its multi-site search tool to iOS" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Twitter’s Vine hits 40 million registered users Posted: 20 Aug 2013 02:07 PM PDT Twitter’s Vine has seen little action over the past few weeks, especially in light of Instagram Video and with a bunch of startups vying for our attention in the short video-sharing space. That’s not saying Vine has peaked – quite the contrary. Although I don’t share vines as much as I used to, I find myself firing up the app every other day to enjoy some of the truly stupendous or just downright hilarious clips. According to the latest Twitter-provided data, the Vine community is now home to some forty million people. Even though that’s a respectable figure by any measure, it fails to impress in today’s connected world where a service without at least a hundred million users is largely viewed as a failure…(...) EA jumps on the RPG bandwagon: Heroes Of Dragon Age coming this Fall Posted: 20 Aug 2013 01:30 PM PDT Role-playing games are seemingly becoming all the rage on mobile. Following last December’s release of BioWare’s Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Guild Software's MMORPG Vendetta Online launch earlier in the year, some of the biggest names in gaming have taken notice of the trend. For example, Wizards of the Coast just announced the impending release of Arena Of War for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices, their first D&D mobile game set in the fabled Forgotten Realms universe. Not content with sitting on the sidelines and watching others monetize RPG fans, publisher Electronic Arts has tapped developer BioWare to deliver Heroes of Dragon Age, basically a combat-focused spinoff of the famous Dragon Age series…(...) EA announces it’s bringing freemium model to mobile FIFA titles Posted: 20 Aug 2013 12:41 PM PDT Sorry FIFA fans, it looks like the popular soccer (futbol) game is going freemium this year. Electronic Arts made the not-so-surprising announcement during its Gamescom press conference in Germany this morning. This means that when FIFA 14, or whatever it’s going to be called, hits mobile devices later this year, it’ll utilize EA’s free-to-play business model. So while it’ll be free to download, it’ll likely be rife with in-app purchases…(...) "EA announces it’s bringing freemium model to mobile FIFA titles" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |

AdAge: iTunes Radio to launch in September with high-profile ad partners Posted: 20 Aug 2013 11:25 AM PDT Since Apple unveiled its new streaming music service, iTunes Radio, back in June, we haven’t heard much about it. While we have a good idea, from the betas, of how it’s going to work, there are still a lot of details we don’t know. But a new report out this morning is looking to change that, by filling in a lot of the blanks. Citing “people familiar with the negotiations,” it claims that iTunes Radio is launching in September with some high-profile brand partners…(...) Apple fixes remote execution code flaw that brought Dev Center down Posted: 20 Aug 2013 11:15 AM PDT While independent security researcher Ibrahim Balic claimed responsibility for taking down Apple’s Dev Center, in reality his discovery of an iAd Workbench vulnerability had nothing to do with the Dev Center outage. Apple this morning credited Balic for reporting the iAd Workbench bug that did allow him to obtain full names and Apple IDs of Apple’s registered iOS and Mac developers. While it’s a bit murky whether or not Balic was solely responsible for the system-wide Dev Center shutdown, Apple today wrote on its Web Server notifications page that it fixed a “remote code execution issue” that allegedly caused the downtime…(...) Apple credits Ibrahim Balic for reporting iAd Workbench vulnerability Posted: 20 Aug 2013 10:35 AM PDT Ibrahim Balic, an independent security researcher, made the headlines by taking credit for knocking Apple’s Dev Center out for thirteen days following his discovery of a serious iAd Workbench vulnerability. Even though that issue hasn’t made the hack directly possible, it did force Apple to shut down Dev Center for more than a week. It has also prompted an overhaul of Apple’s developer systems, including updating the server software and rebuilding the entire database. Though Balic has rarely come out of stealth mode since protecting his Twitter timeline out of fear of potential consequences, he needn’t worry as Apple has now credited him with reporting the iAd Workbench vulnerability…(...) Survey: iPhone 5C could give Apple lead in China Posted: 20 Aug 2013 07:40 AM PDT One Wall Street analyst has some comforting words for Apple fans watching the iPhone in China submerged under the waves of cheap Android smartphones: wait until the iPhone 5C arrives. Apple’s highly-expected budget handset dubbed the iPhone 5C could pole-vault the Apple brand into first place, overcoming Samsung and other Google-powered devices. The key to giving the iPhone the lead in China: the right price and wide availability. A Morgan Stanley survey of Chinese smartphone consumers suggests an iPhone costing about $486 and offered by China Mobile could give Apple’s marketshare a double-digit boost…(...)
