You don't have to purchase anything. I created an entire Web site to show you how to do routine maintenance for your Mac:

Macintosh OS X Routine Maintenance
http://www.macattorney.com/ts.html

I haven't updated the site in a while. But the only important update for Lion and Mt. Lion is that you should never, ever, defragment a solid state hard drive (SSD) or a hybrid drive.

Do all of the routine maintenance on the above Web site and see if things get better.

Then make sure that you have the latest copy of Flash (which is free) installed by doing this:

Uninstall the copy of Flash that you have installed with this uninstaller (Adobe recommends doing this first):
<http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg>
or
http://is.gd/lrnKUG

Then download the latest version of Flash directly from Adobe, and install it:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Then delete all of your Flash cookies by:

- In the Finder
Option-click the Go menu
Your ~/Library will appear in the menu; choose it
Trash all of the files in the folder at:
/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects

- In the Finder
Option-click the Go menu
Your ~/Library will appear in the menu; choose it
Trash all of the files in the folder at:
/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys

If that doesn't do it, have a look at:

Macintosh OS X Beachballs!
http://www.macattorney.com/rbb.html

to troubleshoot the cause of your beachball problem. If you have commercial anti-virus software installed, I would suspect it to be the cause of your problem right off.

MacKeeper is not just not good it is bad. And avoid the other Mac cleaner apps.

If you want to do maintenance, then follow the instructions on Randy's site.

I have a Mac Mini that I bought new in the spring of 2012. It was fast as lightening for a while but now I all too often see that spinning wheel when I try to access websites and I can't stand sitting and waiting. Would this program stop that from happening?

Interestingly, most people I talk with say that NEO OFFICE does 90% of
everything that Word does with almost complete compatibility...

Yes, that's my experience also. I've been hoping that at some point one of the OpenOffice-based siblings (NeoOffice, LibreOffice, Apache OpenOffice) would become good enough to replace Microsoft Word. I've been keeping track of all three, and of the three, NeoOffice appeared to be best in my testing. LibreOffice is too unstable to be relied on (it crashes at the oddest times), and Apache OpenOffice is a bit behind the others.

NeoOffice is pretty impressive. Especially for only $10. I haven't switched to it because there are still some esoteric features in Word that I don't want to do without. And NeoOffice can't be counted on to render received Word files with complex formatting perfectly yet. (For instance, my pleading paper template opens in NeoOffice, but all of the line numbers and other stuff in the far left gutter of the page are simply gone.) But I think that most Word users can be happy with NeoOffice as a replacement at this point.

Check out:

TapForms ($25)

Seems to do about much of what Bento did, iCloud sync, imports Bento data.

Has anyone mentioned that the various Open Office suites include a database
app? Can that import from Bento, either directly or via an intermediate
format?

Otto
