Thank you so much Jim. I am printing out your and Otto's instructions. Perfectly detailed for this non-tech person.
Thanks again to you and Otto.
2 curtsies offered in humble acknowledgement.

These days I often get the following message when I'm trying to open a webpage. My computer, a rocket in spring of 2012 when I bought it, is driving me nuts now with that stupid spinning beach ball. I have to sit and wait way too often.
"Webpages are not responding. To visit the selected webpage, all webpages in other tabs and windows must be force reloaded. Do you want to visit this page?"

Have you gone through the maintenance steps outlined in Randy Singer's website that is often mentioned on this list for such situations:

A very familiar scenario to me, when I first start up Safari, but generally not later.
Now something you would not expect:
The teaching is that a Mac Desktop with a lot of "stuff" on it causes a general slowing.
I tend to slowly accumulate stuff on the desktop, and procrastinate about fixing it.
I recently ran across Shadow Desktop (I think that's it), which creates a folder under Application Support with the file- and folder-content of your desktop, AND moves to that folder, after a short delay, anything new you place on the desktop.
I now have a nice, clean desktop.
Games run faster.
A lot of stuff runs faster.
Safari seems to use less CPU cycles.
And ... I don't think I'm getting the Safari force-reload requester anymore....

I looked this up and it says it is for Windows only - where did you acquire it?

I've been reading and replying from my iPad today, so I couldn't check on my MBPro.

Yes, I have rebooted several times over the past few weeks. This problem persists on both my iPad and iPhone. I'm on DSL and have my home set up on Wi-Fi. Lately Netflix streaming has constantly stopped and started while trying to watch a movie.
Could these problems be related?

Could they be related, yes and no.
The order that Apple generally suggests to clear problems is Restart, Reset, Restore. Just remember to Restore __AFTER__ backing everything up.
But in the case of possible WiFi or cellular network issues, I would Reset Network Settings before Restore.
I assume it is the same for the iPad as the iPhone. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. You may have to re-enter passwords for protected WiFi networks.

Running mail 5.3 on OS-X 10.7.5 altho this problem was seen as far back as 10.5.x Problem is seen on MacPro early 2009 & MacBook Pro 15 inch core 2 duo.
It appears that properly coded Mail can block rules in Apple Mail. In the past it's been SPAM and even if a rule worked in a few days that sender would quit and the rule became unnecessary.
Now its American Express mail where rules won't work.
I follow this procedure in Apple Mail
1) Open mail from AMEX
2) Click Mail Preferences/Rules/Add Rule
3) Set conditions to From - mail fills in the sender
4) Set actions to Move Message and select a Mailbox
5) Select OK & Apply
Nothing happens with all mail from AMEX. I'm thinking non-printable characters but they should be copied when mail picks up the sender vs my typing in the sender.
Any ideas???

Don,
I see this all the time and it is not that the Rule is failing, it is that they have changed the e-ddress, or that you have set it to a specific user. I usually delete what comes before the @ symbol, and it works for a longer period of time, until they change something behind the @ symbol.

New to mac mini and OS X 10 Mountain Lion. During install and setup, migration assistant was used to import files from a macbook, ethernet to ethernet. It was a smooth and quick setup. The only issue so far is the 3 user accounts.
How can I make the mac mini a one user machine?

Are you saying that it migrated over 3 user accounts and you want to eliminate 2 of them.
Assuming the one you want to keep is already an Admin, Sys Prefs > Unlock > select account to remove> if also Admin, change to Standard > click minus sign below column > Lock

Under the Apple Menu, go to System Preferences > Users and Groups. Highlight the account you wish to delete and click the minus sign near the bottom left corner. Note that you must unlock this feature if it is locked before attempting to delete an account.
I always maintain at least two accounts: one is mine (by name) and the other is Administrator (with a different password). In case my account is somehow befouled, I can still get in via the other one and (hopefully) make repairs. I've never had to do this but then, I've never needed the air bags in my car either. Thankfully!

Delete the other two. If there is stuff in those accounts you want to move over then that is a different kettle of fish, but that is not what you asked.
