It states that its a world phone. Does that mean its already unlocked or am I stuck with AT&T roaming services during travel and locked to AT&T? I'm with AT&T.

Hi there, still the so called 5th gen doesn`t support the 4g network or does it? I think that the next version will be a 4Sg with a 4g network upgrade with some bug fixes, if you remember the last of the 3g version ie. the 3Gs was the best of its type and i think that is what is going to happen of the iPhone4.
Thank you for reading.

That is WITH contract - without Contract is $549. iPhone 4S without
contract is $649 for 16GB, $749 for 32GB and $849 for 64GB.

Verizon's site has no information - just a "sign up to sign up for
reserved quantity" - concerning the 4S.

We're under contract, with a year left on that contract.

Does anyone know the cost(s) of the 4S 32 and 64 GB with Verizon?

Thanks.

So how much different is the 4s version of Siri going to be from the standalone Siri app I've had (and rarely even messed with) for several months, if not more than a year?

An iPhone seems a bit pointless if you use it for phone and mail only. As
Jay is getting the 64 GB model I expect he's planning to carry a lot of
media with him, IOW get a lot of iPod usage from it.

Me too. I am excited about the new OS more than the iPhone
as it really adds a lot and starts to make it catch up to what
Android has had for a while. No computer needed, notifications
in one place, 8 mp camera and a lot of that has been on Android
for a long time.

I was looking for a larger screen and I want real multitasking.

My dad has an iPhone 4 and next to my Android it looks like a
toy almost, just to small for me. Sure nice screen but I am not
going to read a book on something that small.

iPhone 4 $99 on Sprint as well

Posted by: "Bill Boulware" bill.boulware@gmail.com   boulware0224

Wed Oct 5, 2011 4:22 am (PDT)

I haven't seen this mentioned yet but the "free" 8GB 3GS is exclusive to
AT&T, but the 8GB iPhone 4 will be available on Sprint (as well as AT&T &
Verizon) on the same date as the 4S (10/14). I am not sure why they are
waiting until the 14th sell the 8GB iPhone 4 on any network (or unlocked for
a whopping $549) - surely they aren't going to go 9 days without anyone
activating a new iPhone so I checked AT&T and they are still selling 16/32GB
iPhone 4 for $199/$299...

My guess is because the any network iPhone 4 needs the new dual chip
(GSM/CDMA). Dropping to 8 GB separates the current single chip models
from the dual.

The new chip is only in the 4S the 4 still has separate GSM & CDMA versions
- just 8GB instead of 16 or 32. Verizon and Sprint are basically the same
tech - they just have to authorize the serial number batches to work on
their network(s).

iP4s--initially underwhelmed, but now

Posted by: "jparkerg@yahoo.com" jparkerg@yahoo.com   jparkerg

Wed Oct 5, 2011 6:38 am (PDT)

I've been reading quite a bit about the iP4s since yesterday afternoon and find myself more and more intrigued.
Ted Landau's write-up at The Mac Observer makes an interesting read.

I am reconsidering my shoot-from-the-hip response and may indeed move up to the new model. As has been said elsewhere, it's what's under the hood that separates the new phone. And as Bill Boulware noted, all of our cases and peripherals still fit the new one.

Don't know about you, but when iPhone 3gs came out, it was the exact
same situation. The phones looked identical, however the innards
were worked over and [back then] it flew it was so fast.

I've done a comparison between my iPhone 4 and my iPad2 (with the A5
chip) and the iPad flies in comparison.

Will I be getting the iP4s? You bet! Not only that, but my 32gb iP4
is maxxed-out, so I need the 64 offered in the iP4s.

Its a win-win to me.

Would I have liked to see an iP5--sure... my iP4 is kind-of long in
the tooth, so any new phone will be a joy. And its like someone said
eariler (not sure if it was here) all the peripherals work with iP4s,
so you don't have to buy new cases, etc.

Like I said... win-win!

God Bless!

Apple will now accept your used iPhone 4 in exchange for up to $200

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Apple will now accept
your used iPhone 4 in exchange for up to $200 via 9to5Mac by Christian
Zibreg on 10/5/11

If selling your iPhone on eBay or great services like Gazelle are too
cumbersome, Apple now will now accept your used iPhone 4 and pay for it
up to two hundred bucks, depending on its condition. Just head over to
the Reuse and Recycle program at Apple's site and hit the Get Started
button underneath the "Get an Apple Gift Card for your old device"
section.

If your used iPhone 4 manages to fetch a cool $200, congrats – you just
secured yourself a 16GB iPhone 4S free of charge (with a two-year
contract). As part of yesterday's reshuffling, the iPhone 4 is now
available only with eight gigabytes of storage and priced at just $99.
The iPhone 3GS, meanwhile, has gone free. Both older iPhone models
require a two-year plan to fetch those prices. Apple is also offering
the iPhone 4 and 3GS without a contract commitment for $549 and $375,
respectively. What about a SIM-free iPhone 4S?

Apple made no mention of the unlocked version of the iPhone 4S in its
press release or during yesterday unveiling. The company has
traditionally been requiring a contractual commitment for the latest
iPhone model in most countries, usually putting out a contract-free
variant ahead of a next-generation model. Things have changed with the
iPhone 4S, according to this note which clearly mentions both
subsidized and SIM-free iPhone 4S. In Canada, for example, Apple's
online store lists the unlocked iPhone 4S for $649. The UK lists
SIM-free iPhone 4S for £499, in Germany and France it's €629 while
Australia has it priced at A$ 799. In countries such as Italy the
iPhones have been available unlocked alongside their subsidized
counterparts for years, stemming from local legislation preventing
wireless companies from leveraging the latest handsets in order to sign
up consumers into lengthy contracts.

That's what I was thinking -- their Big Mistake was calling it 4S (or
4*anything*) rather than 5.

I guess Shakespeare was wrong about roses & names.

If they called it the iPhone 5, people would be happy.

Does that mean the name 3Gs was wrong too? The s stands for speed and that's what you're getting.
