My 27" iMac is currently in the repair shop for a new power management unit and a new logic board, in a desperate attempt to cure the odd infrequent switching off problems I have been experiencing since new.
I back up twice daily to an external Raid using Time Machine, and once a week to another external using CCC.
Something in the back of my senile memory is nagging that Time Machine recognises something in-built in the logic board. Can anyone advise if I will have problems reconnecting to my back-ups when the machine comes back? Will Time Machine and/or CCC recognise the new logic board or will either start a totally new complete back up?
Hope that makes sense!
Thanks for any advice.
Les

Hi Les,
This doesn't directly answer you question, but perhaps it will shed some light on things. I suspect you will not have a problem when it comes time to backup or restore, though you may have to adjust a few things.
I'm using SuperDuper! with internal and external backups on my Mac Pro. One of my external backup drives is a docking station, which allows me to swap out standard SATA drives. Since I wanted duplicate backups from this docking station, I simply slipped a new HDD into the docking station, with the same partitions, same drive names, etc.I thought SuperDuper would just use the previous script and work normally....WRONG!
I learned that SuperDuper looks at the "drive ID", not the name I gave it, and bases its backups on scripts for that drive ID. Even though I named the two drives the same, the ID was different. That's actually a good thing, because I can change the names of the drives and partitions all day long and the backup/restore functions work identically from SD.
In my case, the simple solution was to create a new SD script that looks to the new drive. I'm not sure how CCC and Time Machine handle this, but perhaps this is worth checking out for when you get your computer back.

Hi, Dan. Key strokes for screenshots do not work on this HD movie file downloaded from iTunes. All I receive is a blank image file. It was suggested that I buy SnapProX but at $70, I need further use than just an occasional screen shot. Thanks for responding. jr
