You can download the new IOS 5 on the 12th, and it will give you everything but Siri.

I personally plan on upgrading my daughter to 4S so she won't text while driving - and I'm going to repair her current 4 and upgrade to IOS 5 (It has a broken front and back, 6 minute job to fix).

That's something I have been thinking too. Only a guess but I
think they made me the offer as its a business account with tax
id and I had the account set to be closed on 10/21. They had made
a free Galaxy S2 offer before and I passed. Sprint doesn't have
the best coverage so we were going to switch. I used the tax id
over my SS# as you can just order things and are billed for it later,
when I used my SS# I had to pay up front with a CC.

I am going to look at my account in the morning and see if there
is any type of deal with the 4S.

My worry about upgrading to the new phone now is that if the G5 does come out, I won't be given the eligibility credit I need time wise to get another phone and will have to wait longer. Also I'll be interested to see how the new 4s works with time. Free trade ins are available other places besides At&T; I've seen offers on the internet and locally.

Tough question. In July I got the iPhone 4 just days before Verizon
stopped the unlimited data plan. I knew a new phone would be out shortly
but wanted that unlimited and I knew the camera was a decent one. I paid
for the largest at that time, 32GB for 299+ tax and activation, about
350. I knew I'd have that phone for 2-2.5 years.

On pension, but the new phone, faster, more memory, better camera, up to
64GB (I'd get) is a strong pull. A new iPod Touch with a terrible camera
is 399, so that is a price marker.
If I could get the new phone for 400 I'd be sharpening my pencil to see
if I could swing it. Seriously doubt Verizon would do that.

But that's my thinking.

Would you be happy with the 4 for the next 2 years? By then we'd be at
5S or so. Or is saving the 200+ today a big bite out of your budget? The
monthly Sprint charges will be the same. Let's call it $240 for the
phone. Would you be willing to pay an extra 20 a month for the 4S?

I have to break things down that way to see how I really feel, what I
really want, need.
I believe the Sprint 4 has the same antenna as in the Verizon 4 and now
4S. That's what I have read. Don't know for fact.

You can always sell your iPhone 4, given it is in good condition.
Gazelle.com is the base line for price and I think they are around $260 and
they are currently going for ~$400 on Craigslist.

Keep in mind if you have a lot of music it is MUCH cheaper to buy a 16GB
phone ($200 less) and subscribe to iTunes Match for $24.99 a year that will
stream music to your phone. I have been using it since beta started and it
works quite well but only for music - Podcasts, books, etc still use your
storage space.

I was in Radio Shack yesterday and I asked the same question. The one rep. said he thinks the next phone will be out in 2012 when they work out some internet issues using the next generation of internet. Right now the higher internet network eats up batteries big time.
He did not feel in his opinion that I should rush into the new phone that just came out. I'll probably wait until I see what happens before I upgrade.

I am pretty confident they have officially moved the iPhone launch to
Sept/Oct and it will be a year before we see the "iPhone 6" / LTE. Another
12 months LTE will be where 3G was 5 years ago, battery life will be
improved, etc.

I have a VZW Droid Bionic with LTE and the battery is 200mAh larger than the
iPhone 4 and it dies halfway through the day unless I turn off LTE and I am
in a fully covered city.

Time Magazine stops presses, to release special Steve Jobs issue wit

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Time Magazine stops
presses, to release special Steve Jobs issue with Walter Isaacson essay
via 9to5Mac by Seth Weintraub on 10/6/11

Time is doing a special run of its magazine this week.

Today, TIME releases a special commemorative issue on Steve Jobs to hit
newsstands and tablet devices tomorrow, Friday, October 7.

To produce this special issue, TIME stopped the presses on its
previously planned issue in order to devote its cover and 21 pages of
the full issue to Jobs' life and career. The issue includes a six-page
essay by Jobs' biographer Walter Isaacson, a historical report on Jobs
career by TIME technology reporters Harry McCracken and Lev Grossman
and a photo essay by Diana Walker, who has been shooting Jobs for TIME
since 1982.

The cover image (right, click to enlarge) is a photograph of Jobs taken
by Norman Seeff in 1984. This is the seventh time Jobs has appeared on
the cover of TIME.

The magazine is increasing its print run for this special issue, which
will be available worldwide.

Excerpt of Isaacson's Essay below:

Jobs thus became the greatest business executive of our era, the one
most certain to be remembered a century from now. History will place
him in the pantheon right next to Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. More
than anyone else of his time, he made products that were completely
innovative, combining the beauty of poetry and the power of processors.
With a ferocity that could make working with him as unsettling as it
was inspiring, he also built what became, at least for a period this
past month, the world's most valuable company. And he was able to
infuse into its genetic code the design sensibilities, perfectionism
and imagination that make it likely to be, even decades from now, the
company that thrives best at the intersection of artistry and
technology.

In the early summer of 2004, I got a phone call from him. He had been
scattershot friendly to me over the years, with occasional bursts of
intensity, especially when he was launching a new product that he
wanted on the cover of Time or featured on CNN, places where I'd
worked. But now that I was no longer at either of those places, I
hadn't heard from him much. We talked a bit about the Aspen Institute,
which I had recently joined, and I invited him to speak at our summer
campus in Colorado. He'd be happy to come, he said, but not to be
onstage. He wanted, instead, to take a walk so we could talk.

That seemed a bit odd. I didn't yet know that taking a long walk was
his preferred way to have a serious conversation. It turned out that he
wanted me to write a biography of him. I had recently published one on
Benjamin Franklin and was writing one about Albert Einstein, and my
initial reaction was to wonder, half jokingly, whether he saw himself
as the natural successor in that sequence. Because I assumed that he
was still in the middle of an oscillating career that had many more ups
and downs left, I demurred. Not now, I said. Maybe in a decade or two,
when you retire.

But I later realized that he had called me just before he was going to
be operated on for cancer for the first time. As I watched him battle
that disease, with an awesome intensity combined with an astonishing
emotional romanticism, I came to find him deeply compelling, and I
realized how much his personality was ingrained in the products he
created. His passions, demons, desires, artistry, devilry and obsession
for control were integrally connected to his approach to business, so I
decided to try to write his tale as a case study in creativity.

Pictures, music and podcasts are where my space has gone to. The iPhone 4s will be taking 50% larger pix than the iPhone plus with the ability to shoot without unlocking the phone, I'll probably be shooting more than ever.

Gotta be an iPhone 4S-64!

Mapping programs, movies, lots of music, lots of podcasts, ....

If I were at 13 GB now, I would get a 32 GB for my next machine.

(I'm actually at 29 GB now on my 4; I'll eventually get a 64 GB 4S.)

I have the 16Gb i4 currently and music (7.4G) and apps (3.8G) are what fills mine. but I've DL'd prob twice as many apps than I have on the phone and that music is only a minor fraction of what I have. I swap albums and playlists in and out on a regular basis, plus am subscribed to several audio or video podcasts.

Because it's so easy for me to swap albums and playlists, I'm going to stick with the smallest capacity 4S to save the $100+.

A Coin Flip

I have owned iPhone 3 (was GOING to buy iPhone 2 as I've watched iPhone "1" going through bugs etc etc, then they got ironed out. But at that time - I was using Blackberry which I truly hates. Waiting for the contract to expire. That's when iPhone 3 came out. I bought it instantly.
Now, I'm using iPhone 3Gs because my hubby wanted to experience it (He too was an ex-blackberry user) as a frugal himself, he took mine and that's how I got iPhone 3Gs. When iPhone 4 came out - I wasn't sure as it's in my nature to wait a generation later as I rely on feedbacks, bug fixes etc. So you guessed it - I was so looking forward to iPhone 5 as to me, it was a reasonably worthwhile investment as I go from 3Gs to 5.

Now, with iPhone 4S, not sure if I should go for 4S or stick with buying iPhone 4 and wait for iPhone 5, or (oh dear) maybe 6?

Throw your 2-cents worth of opinion. :)

Thanks in advance!!
