My way of thinking is this. If I am eligible for an upgrade and a new iPhone is released, I am going to buy it instantly no questions asked. I always need more memory and each release seems to be doubling the amount of memory in the device from the previous design.

So I could care less what it's called. I will get the new one very year because Apple allows me to upgrade every year!

The iPhone organizes my life incredibly well and joyfully. Why is this such a hard decision for so many people? I understand if you can't afford it. If you're broke then don't upgrade until you can.

I don't know what would make "iPhone5" better than "iPhone 4S." It's semantics.

I had a 3G at the time and didn't feel what I considered a few upgrades to be worth the extra $ for the 3GS. Now her 3G is almost obsolete so I'm using her upgrade to get the 4S and will pass down my 4 to her (I'm the heavier user of the phone so she is fine with that). I would now rather spend a little more to get the current one and the two-year contract rather than get the contract and a "new" phone that's already 12-15 months old.

I'm going to hop in with my thoughts here too...I have a 3Gs. Love it, I don't use the iPod or movie features, I'll have my son teach me one day. Lol. I Stayed with it when 4 came out because I like the size and sleekness of the smaller phone. When I got it, it was a HUGE difference from the 3. So I'll be upgrading to 4s. My biggest 'wish' for the iPhone is Bluetooth control. I want to voicedial from the earpiece like I did with my bb and nokias. So fill me in if I'm just technically challenged. But I want to use the earpiece with my phone remaining in my pocket or purse. Phone dialing isn't handsfree IMHO. I'm an old lady so maybe I'm just not getting it.

If you look back at my recent posts I was never going to get one
but in the end I was up at 3 am trying off and on for 2 hours until
I had my order in. :>>>

What changed my mind?

I spent some time on the Apple.com website and watched all the videos
there about the demo and the features. Sure a lot of new stuff is in the
upcoming iOS but its not just "a little faster chip and camera" like I was
thinking, it's insides are all redesigned and new, just the shell is the
same.
So in a way, it could have really been called the iPhone 5.

I bet the new camera takes amazing pictures and video and even though
its only 8MP, like my EVO is, I think the 4S will take 10x better images
from
what I saw/read about it on the apple.com website.

Same with the processor. Its not just a faster one like I was thinking
before,
its got all kinds of things going on that I can't explain but when you
read/see
it on the website, its like wow!

The new antennas and features really run your data at speeds other phones
call 4G just the iPhone 4S doesn't call it 4G.

Siri, I think its called, was something I thought I would never use it until
I saw
the demo and videos. Now I can't wait to try it. Still not sure how much I
will
use it but going to play with it and see.

Normally, the daylight shift automatically gets done the moment, service provider updates their master clock.
I never had this done manually on Iphone 4 but then since I bought Iphone 4, it has seen only one pair of changes of time.

I tried earlier but it was always down. Then I tried opening
a couple windows and used one under my account being signed in
and another not being signed in. Then kept clicking on things.

The Sprint main page was down but I got in by clicking around
on other things.

I woke up right at 3:00 (my brain has a way of doing that to me) so I tried
to order at that time too. Gave up and went back to bed at 3:30 after
continuing to see the "be back soon" sticky. Got up at my normal 5:30 time
(again before the alarm, dang brain) and ordered without a hitch!

Hope you got through!

App Store has an AT&T Upgrader app to upgrade from the iPhone directly. But it wouldn't work. So I was able to upgrade from the desktop at ATT.com

I got my shiny new black 64GB iPhone 4S on order. It will be a long week to wait until next Friday to get it. :-(

My dad and a couple other friends had problems from 3 to about 5.
I got in a little before five but after that it seemed better.

Shannon, if you are worried about the iPhone going through bug "iron-outs" you will be waiting the rest of your life--far beyond iPhone 6. If you keep waiting for a "generation later" to rely on feedbacks, you are in the wrong line of phones. Maybe you should stick with a pre-paid flip phone for communication.

I just spent the last hour online ordering my 4S. I don't care about a 5 or a 6 or an (oh dear) 7 or beyond. The other Roger put it best... It's the best product at the time that meets his needs. If it doesn't meet your needs then don't upgrade.

You asked for two cents, I gave you four. I hope you find resolve in this matter.

As promised, Apple has begun pre-orders for the anticipated iPhone 4S.
Pre-ordering is now available in the United States, Australia, Canada,
France, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom through Apple's website.
Additionally, carriers in these countries are offering pre-orders

In the US, the iPhone 4S is available for order right now through AT&T,
Verizon Wireless, and for the first time, Sprint. Pre-orders placed in
time through Apple will be delivered on the October 14 release date.
Sales in stores will also begin on this date. Unlocked (carrier-free)
models are coming in November, according to Apple.

Carrier plan breakdowns for the United States

I wonder if we really needed to get up early to preorder or even order
the first day to get one on the 14th?

Do you think there will be a shortage?

I heard from an AT&T store manager that if we don't order this morning we may not be guaranteed to receive it next Friday. If we order this afternoon, those people may not get it until the following week. So I'm sure the demand from morning orders will likely account for the units they have now ready to ship.

I also expect that we may actually see the iPhone delivered on Thursday instead of Friday like hat happened last year.

I am on Verizon. I ordered at 3:01am EDT. Got a 64gb in black. Will be shipped and arrive no later than the 14th. I was told that if I wanted it at the store, they are not taking preorders. Verizon preorders are only online.

Unlocked iPhone 4S available in November, only works on GSM networks

It's interesting that you can't take your unlocked iPhone 4S over to
Sprint or Verizon to enable service, at least explicitly. Also, it
appears that you can take your unlocked iPhone 4S over to T-Mobile
(Apple says "GSM Networks" but doesn't mention T-Mobile specifically),
but only expect to use the EDGE 2G speeds. Being unlocked also means
swapping out micro SIMs when travelling internationally is possible.

The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a
contract commitment. You can activate and use it on the supported GSM
wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T in the United States.*
The unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S will not work with CDMA-based
carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.

If you don't want a multiyear service contract or if you prefer to use
a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best
choice. It arrives without a micro-SIM card, so you'll need an active
micro-SIM card from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using
it, simply insert the micro-SIM card into the slot on your iPhone and
turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds.
Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.

We are hearing numerous reports that AT&T unlimited data users aren't
able to upgrade their unlimited plans when they order the iPhone 4S.
They are automatically changed to a different device tier. We aren't
yet sure if this is policy or just glitches in the ordering system.
We've reached out for official comment.

Thanks Chris!

Hello

In the US when you contract expires, does the carrier unlock your phone upon request or they don´t unlock it no matter what?

Technically I think they have to but the requests are so infrequent that
most of the employees don't know how.
