Honestly I wouldn't agree to a 2 year contract with 18 month old hardware.
Not sure what account you have with Sprint to get a 'free' 4 but if that
logic hold true they should be willing to give you a 4S for $100 (4 is $99
for everyone else, etc).
A Friend is eligible for upgrade on AT&T - she got the 4 last year and it
was stolen and went back to 3G, then used one of my upgrades (I have 5 AT&T
lines, 2 of them are just feature phones) and her son put that one in the
toilet. She is saying she is going to buy another 4 for $99 and I am trying
to talk her out of it, to get the 4S.
I haven't even looked yet but I don't think I am going to be able to sell my
4 as I did all of my previous ones, certainly not for the usually $400+ - I
may be able to get $200-$300 max for it (perfect condition, battery rarely
used as I always use Mophie Juice Pack, etc) but I may end up just giving
her my 4 so she doesn't spend $99 and get into another contract to try and
'save' $100...

Ralph,
How does this work? Are you with out a phone until your 4S arrive or did you
put in your auction that you will not ship the phone until 10/15?
I've looked at all the websites that I can sell my iPhone4 on including
Gazelle but I can't figure out how I would still have a phone before getting
the money to purchase the new iPhone.
Thanks!

Gazelle's quote is good for 30 days, so you can wait for the new phone and
then send yours in once you've switched to it.

to get one on release day.

I ordered mine same way and got same answer. They have to give you the "worst case" scenario in case there are problems incurred but if it's anything like past launches it will probably be right on time or maybe even ONE day earlier. Good Luck!

Selling iPhone 4 on Ebay?
Posted by: "SFreilinger" SFreilinger@comcast.net suzyseyephone

Can any of you who have sold your 4's on ebay send me a link so I can get an idea as to condition, accessories etc....I usually give mine away when I upgrade, but this time I need $ so I can get the 64gb LoL.....I checked Gazelle and for the average 4 it looks like they would pay $200; is it safe to say I could double that on ebay?
Also, on launch day are the lines usually awful...I was considering a pre-order but with so many potentially ahead of me I didn't want to chance it....I have both an Apple store and an AT&T store within walking distance of my home- any idea which one might be a better choice to stand in line at?
Bright Blessings,
Suzy

Hello
In the US when you contract expires, does the carrier unlock your phone upon request or they don´t unlock it no matter what?

Hi
Yes, actually all cell phones must be unlocked from factory. It is the law and it has been like that for few years.
You might even purchase a locked phone (if you don´t ask for a unlocked one) because the carrier "wants to keep you as a customer" but if you ask they unlock it right away.
Here you can get phone a bit cheaper thru a contract also but they are unlocked. if you decide to leave the contract for whatever reason you pay a fine that was previously agreed and that is it.
Curious in US they don´t unlock even when the contract is over. People should complain about that with the politicians to change the law.

I forgot to add:
Recently when I got my iPhone 4 and it was locked to my carrier, which I think it is default here for the iphone only i guess. When I got home I went to my carrier website and entered the iphone IMEI and voil, it was unlocked. I think from all cell phones only the iphone needs to be unlocked by apple. Go figure.

GSM and CDMA? and other questions
Posted by: "Morgan Mandel" morgan@morganmandel.com morganmandel

I'm confused. Does the 4S have both GSM and CDMA which can switch back and forth, or is it one or the other, depending on which carrier I use?
Also, I have an iPhone 4 and a 3 from before. I wonder if Best Buy would take my 3 and give me a gift card.
If the 4S is the same size as the 4, I wonder if a 4 case would fit on the 4S. I already had a case, but got a free one when the antenna issue came up.

yes, iPhone 4 cases will fit the iPhone 4S.
Thank frak for that, I wouldn't want to get a bunch of cases all over again

In the US, you buy it for a GSM carrier (AT&T) or a CDMA carrier (Sprint or
Verizon). If you choose AT&T, you cannot use CDMA. If you choose
Sprint/Verizon, it can function as a world phone with a SIM, but not as it's
primary account.

I think so, check here:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ Electronics+ Promotions/ Online-Trade- In/pcmcat1336000 50011.c?id= pcmcat1336000500 11.
Not sure how much you will receive.

The 4S has the same antennae design as the Verizon iPhone 4, which moved the
mute switch and volume buttons down slightly. Some original cases
(including original bumpers) that were for the AT&T iPhone 4 will not fit
correctly. If the case was advertised to work with AT&T and Verizon (or
just Verizon) *should* fit correctly, but your mileage may vary (YMMV).
