AT&T Alone Sold 200,000 iPhone 4S in First 12 Hours

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 05:17 PM PDT

MacRumors points to a report from Reuters citing that AT&T is seeing extraordinary demand for Apple’s new smartphone. As most of you know, Apple opened up iPhone 4S preorders just after midnight (PST) last night.

The company has been met with a lot of criticism over its latest handset, which it unveiled last Tuesday. But that doesn’t seem to have affected consumer demand for the device. AT&T believes that they’ve already sold 200,000 of them…(...)

Steve Jobs’ Funeral Today, No Public Memorial Planned

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 02:23 PM PDT

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Steve Jobs’ funeral is taking place today. The news puts a devastating period at the end of one of the saddest sentences in tech history. Steve Jobs has passed away.

The service will consist of a small “private gathering,” and it doesn’t appear that there will be any kind of public memorial held. But, as a quick look around the world will tell you, the public has already come up with its own way of honoring Steve…(...)

International iPhone 4S Shipping Estimates Already Pushed Back 1-2 Weeks

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 01:00 PM PDT

While iPhone 4S pre-orders in the US seem to be working just fine, international demand for the 4S has caused Apple to push back the shipping estimate for the 4S to 1-2 weeks. Instead of the assured delivery date on October 14th that Apple originally promised, shipping estimates for the 4S have slipped to a more uncertain delivery date for international customers.

Apple stores in countries like Canada, the UK, France, Germany, and Australia have all had shipping dates pushed back already. The iPhone 4S became available for pre-order after 12AM this morning…(...)

Apple and AT&T Working Together to Get “4G” Indicator in iPhone 4S Status Bar

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 12:34 PM PDT

What is 4G? Other than the fact that it’s the wireless standard that comes after 3G, I’m not sure that a lot of people outside of the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) know the answer. It’s supposed to be a lot faster, right?

For months, both AT&T and T-Mobile have been taking advantage of this grey area surrounding the marketing buzz term, touting their HSPA+ networks as “4G.” Now it appears that Apple is going to be hopping on the bandwagon…(...)

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart Pay Respect to Steve Jobs

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 12:00 PM PDT

We’ve seen our fair share of reactions to Steve Jobs’ death since the news broke on Wednesday. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak’s video interview was probably the most moving of them all.

Yesterday, it was Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart’s turn to pay respect to Jobs in their own way. Funny and touching at the same time…(...)

The Banned iPhone 4S Promo Video

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 11:27 AM PDT

The guys that brought us the banned iPhone 4 promo videos are back at it! They’re even funnier than last year. I can’t get enough of these videos.

My favorite part starts at about 35 seconds in, when the drunk VP of Siri talks about the assistant who “listens to you, and understands you, and doesn’t judge you, it doesn’t f***ng nag you about why you’re so late coming home from work”…(...)

Only the GSM iPhone 4S Can Be Unlocked

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 11:01 AM PDT

Following the news earlier that the iPhone 4S won’t be available as an unlocked device until November, it’s also worth noting that only customers on GSM carriers will be able to unlock the 4S.

Apple touted the iPhone 4S as a “world phone” capable of running on both GSM and CDMA networks, but as usual there seems to be more involved when it comes to the fine print. Unfortunately, an unlocked iPhone 4S will only work on GSM networks…(...)

You almost have to feel sorry for the little guy, don’t you?

Apple’s newest iPod nano, now into its seventh iteration (if you count Tuesday’s software refresh as a “new model”), has been given the infamous iFixit treatment, and had its innards laid out for all to gawk at…(...)
