While speech pathologists and educators have been searching for convenient and cost-effective tools that will provide visual support for children with Autism, Smarty Ears, an innovative company that specializes in creating speech therapy apps, is announcing the release of Custom Boards. Custom Boards is the first app of its kind and it is set to also bring about a revolution for special education. It was designed to serve as a board and activity creation center for speech therapists, special education teachers, and parents of children who need symbols for learning and communicating.

Custom Boards was created to offer teachers, parents, and speech therapists the tools they need to support learning for each of their students while providing parents with an affordable way to facilitate continued learning at home, creating a link between learning environments and strengthening students' process of learning.

Custom Boards serves as a visual support system that enables speech and language pathologists, teachers, and parents to create and print meaningful activities, schedules, and communication boards. This excellent app allows users to select from a pool of templates in three areas: Communication Boards, Schedules, and Activities. Custom Boards includes over 11,000 symbols from the Smarty Symbols library. The Smarty Symbols library is advanced and comprehensive with vocabulary that is organized into semantic and meaningful categories (such as communication and expressions) and features a unique low frequency vocabulary not found in any other symbol library. By utilizing Custom Boards, users can save, print directly from the iPad, and email countless templates.

Custom Boards has the flexibility of being used on the go, at school, in therapy sessions, and even at home. "I created individual boards using Custom Boards for many of my students today. Articulation pictures for some, requesting for others and vocabulary for all!" stated Cindy L. Meester, an educator who recently purchased Custom Boards, "I even made a game board to use with a theme unit for fall. And I can save them to use again and again! I can print them off for home practice too." The reviews on iTunes also show the level of excitement that Custom Boards is generating: "A Must Have App! Intense! Universal! Multi-Functional! Adaptive! Ingenious! is this App. It is well-suited to meet any Therapist, Teacher, Parent, and Child's needs. This app has set a new bar for board creations," review by beVerbal.

Older computer-based programs charge between $399 and $799 for their software; Custom Boards, available in the app store for only $69.99, is a product that educators, speech pathologists, and parents can afford and use in various learning environments. Custom Boards is cost-effective, user-friendly, insightful, and easy to use.

Custom Boards can be purchased from the iTunes app store. The product was officially launched on October 6, 2011 and quickly became the #3 Bestselling Educational App on iTunes.

Sydney based IT company, MTS Technology Pty Ltd announces the integration of What Should I Draw HD with their new web-based artwork gallery. What Should I Draw HD is a Pad play and draw app for kids. The app consists of four splodges of paint when touched that reveal a different part of the drawing suggestion. The website works as additional feature to What Should I Draw HD where users are able to upload their artwork and see how it looks on printable items.

Lower North Shore - Sydney, Australia - Following the release of their What Should I Draw HD app in the Apple App Store last August, MTS Technology Pty Ltd announces the availability of their web-based artwork gallery built specifically for the app.

Unlike other painting or drawing apps, What Should I Draw HD not only provides drawing media but also gives children suggestions of what to draw. The app consists of four splodges of paint when touched that reveal a different part of the drawing suggestion. The blue reveals an adjective, red reveals a colour, yellow reveals an animal and purple reveals a verb. So the end result could be "A bouncy, Peach, Lemur, Tap Dancing"

"Is your child constantly asking of what he or she should draw? If so, welcome to my world. My 10 years old son often asked the question when he wanted to draw something. Frustrated with our unimaginative suggestions, he developed his own system. To make it easier for him, we simply turned his idea into an iPad app with thousands of possible combinations." Martin Simunic, the creator of What Should I Draw app explained.

"Since then, our son is never short of something to draw and no more What Should I Draw questions. In fact, he becomes very excited playing the word combinations over and over. As a completion to the app features, MTS Technology also launched a web-based artwork gallery where What Should I Draw app users are able to upload the artwork created on their device, save on the gallery and see how it looks on t-shirt, mug or any other printable item.

Exciting Features Added to Map Draw for iPad - Life is a Journey, Map It - Published on 10/14/11

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fishington Studios today announced an update to Map Draw-Route Tracking and Annotation. Map Draw version 1.2 introduces several new fun and user friendly features to the app, as well as a free version, which makes its debut this week. Map Draw is a versatile map annotation application that can be used for a variety of purposes. These can range from fitness training to social, entertainment or even business purposes such as coordinating a hike, planning a road trip, giving directions, and more.

Logan, Utah - Fishington Studios announced today that it has released the latest version of Map Draw-Route Tracking and Annotation. Several new fun and user friendly features have been added to the app, as well as the free version, which makes its debut this week. Map Draw is a versatile map annotation application that can be used for a variety of purposes. These can range from fitness training such as tracking a run or biking route or for social or business purposes such as coordinating a hike, planning a road trip, finding or giving directions to a business meeting and much, much more.

Since its release in September, Map Draw has seen a steady stream of downloads and increased number of sales. "Continuing support and customer service are among our highest priorities, so after receiving several great suggestions from our users, we updated the application to reflect those", remarked Fishington Studios Founder and CEO Chris Flammer. These new updates make the application even more user friendly and fun to use and it continues to offer features that no other route plotting application available on the iPad market today can compete with.

An especially useful and exciting addition to the application includes waypoint annotation pins. These handy markers can be added anywhere on a route or map and there is no limit to the number users can add. There are 300 unique icons and 10 possible pin colors available, which provide a number of creative combinations for marking areas of interest on a map or along a route. The "waypoint" icon, pin color, title, and subtitle are all completely customizable and touch technology allows users to simply use their finger to drag and drop a pin to a desired location.

The regular version of Map Draw is free to download and allows users to create and save 7 maps. For those wanting more, an elite version is also available for purchase, and includes unlimited entries. Flammer states: "We've released a free version of the application because we wanted to provide users a way to preview the application and see for themselves what it has to offer before making a decision to purchase. It is not our goal to replace Google Maps. Our application is instead designed to address a unique set of features that we feel is missing in most mapping applications out there today, and we are confident that these features will prove an invaluable resource for just about anyone."

About Map Draw:
Map Draw allows users to create their own routes and maps directly on the iPad. With the touch of a finger, users can track and save distances, routes and plans. Maps support the creation of custom waypoint annotation pins, and all maps can be drawn on freehand when exported, making it the ideal tool for anyone looking for a mobile and versatile navigation tracking system. All entries are stored in a professional and elegant journal-style interface on the device and no uploading to or downloading from a website is needed.

Features:
* Route creation using a touch system. Routes can be drawn independently of roads, allowing hikes and off-road trails to be captured
* User waypoint pins. Pin icon, color, title, and subtitle are customizable
* Maps can be exported via email, or saved directly to the device in the photo library. All exported maps can be freely drawn on, allowing a user to add additional notes, or paint directly on the map like a canvas
* Maps support forward geo-coding, allowing users to search for any location by name or address
* Incorporates a zoom to location feature for easy access to a user's current location when drawing a route
* Map styles can be toggled between standard, satellite, and hybrid. The type is stored and remembered for each individual map
* Plotting contains undo and clear-all support
* Each map created is stored in a journal-style interface for easy access. Every entry is plotted on a graphic map display
* Journal interface is customizable
* Application supports both landscape and portrait orientations
* All saved routes can be freely edited at any time. Changes are saved automatically
* Information is cached locally, allowing users to view a route and map offline
* Application contains built-in help and support, is intuitive and easy to us

Device Requirements:
* iPad
* Requires iOS 4.3 or later
* 22.5 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Map Draw 1.2 is $2.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Productivity category. The regular version of Map Draw is free to download. Plans to release an iPhone version of this application are also in the works.

Malmo, Sweden - Graphiclife today is pleased to introduce The Big Book of Words for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The application is primarily designed to educate and entertain our youngest fellows. It is packed with more than 60 beautifully illustrated pictures divided into six categories describing everyday objects such as animals, food, vehicles and colors. With every picture there is a voice and a text that tells the user what is displayed in the picture. This way our little ones can learn their native language in a fun and interactive way.

The user interface is designed with the young user in mind. It has big buttons for effortless navigation and is very easy to learn.

Both the user interface and content are translated into eight languages including American English, Swedish, French, Spanish, German, Danish, Norwegian and Polish. This allows the user to practice words when picking up a foreign language, or when the words in the native language all become too easy. The Big Book of Words is hence suitable for users in all ages.

The six categories represented in the application are: Animals, Baby Animals, At the Zoo, Vehicles, Colors and Fruits & Vegetables.

Also included in The Big Book of Words are two mini games - "Memory" and "Find it". "Memory" is a classic-style memory game where one turns cards over, looking for images to match in order to make pairs. In "Find It" the player taps one of four images which correspond to a word which is also narrated, testing the player's knowledge of what they have learned. These games will appeal to toddlers and preschoolers, making this app an activity that babies as well as older children can share together, an excellent choice for a family app.

All illustrations in The Big Book of Words are made by the Swedish artist Jenny Ekdahl.

Device Requirements:
* iPad, iPhone or iPod touch
* Requires iOS 4.1 or later

robick 1.3.0 for iOS - Audio Player with Variable Pitch, Tempo, and Key - Published on 10/14/11

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Independent developer Mitsuhiro Sugimori today announces robick 1.3.0 for iOS, an update to his critically acclaimed Music player app that offers real-time, continuously variable control of pitch, tempo, and key. Featuring a single, uncluttered screen with a wheel controller, users can set in and out points to repeat complex passages, while slowing the music down by 50% without altering its pitch or key. Ideal for the musician, dancer, or fitness trainer, robick is for listening to music deeply.

Kanagawa, Japan - Independent developer Mitsuhiro Sugimori today is pleased to announce robick 1.3.0 for iOS, an update to his critically acclaimed Music player app that offers real-time, continuously variable control of pitch, tempo, and key. Featuring a single, uncluttered screen with a black wheel controller, listeners can easily set in and out points, repeating playback of complex passages, while slowing the music down by 50% without altering its pitch or key. Ideal for the musician, dancer, or fitness trainer, robick is an audio player for listening to music deeply.

There are other iOS music apps that offer many of the same capabilities as robick, but very few that offer such a brilliantly conceived interface. Resembling a large black wheel or old vinyl record, listeners can easily use the color overlay to dial in the exact pitch or tempo they are trying to match. Touch a button and the same wheel displays a circular audio waveform of the entire track, and a different color overlay sweeps out the playback like the second hand of a clock. Invaluable for the musician who wants to analyze five seconds of music using auto-repeat, he or she can easily zoom in on the wheel and waveform and drag to set the precise in and out points on the number-free timeline.

In fact, every function of the app has its own distinctive color overlay, allowing intuitive adjustment of multiple controls. Tempo is continuously variable between 50% and 150%. Pitch is continuously variable plus or minus 100% (100% is equal to a semi-tone). Key is also variable plus or minus 12 semitones, but increments in 24 discrete steps. There are numerical readouts for each of the three functions on the bottom left of the screen. Double-tapping resets each to zero. Real-time clocks on the top right display track length in minutes and seconds, playing time of a selected clip, and duration of a selected repeat.

Feature Highlights:
* Simple, ergonomic wheel interface
* Play fast music slowly
* Confirm a chord in various keys
* Study a lick and a sound
* Repeat the selected point of the music many times and play in all keys
* Ideal for music dictation, transcription, and arrangement
* robick imports tracks from the iPod library
* Repeat part of track (A-B repeat)
* Display simple waveform of the track on a single screen
* Change key and pitch without affecting tempo (speed)
* Change tempo without affecting pitch
* 3-band equalizer
* Continuous or reverse playback
* Playlist function
* Import multiple tracks simultaneously
* Cannot play DRM protected files

robick works so well that the app soon disappears, and the listener is directly connected to the music itself - browsing, analyzing, altering, adjusting, and repeating it without thought or effort. The app also includes some special features that are rarely seen in such music player apps. There is a 3-band equalizer to boost treble /midrange/ bass, which is especially useful for music dictation or compensating for the sound of headphones or speakers. For Beatles fans, a reverse playback feature is included. Continuous playback is another feature useful for music dictation, and users can quickly switch to the preceding or following track as in the iPod app. Finally, users can create customized robick playlists.

"robick helps make music practice fun," stated independent developer Mitsuhiro Sugimori. "There is no other iOS music player that offers this kind of performance and so many features at such a reasonable cost."

Language Support:
* U.S. English and Japanese

Device Requirements:
* iPhone or iPod touch
* Requires iOS 4.2 or later
* 7.3 MB

Pricing and Availability:
robick 1.3.0 is only $2.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Music category. Review copies are available upon request.

Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom - To celebrate Halloween, and the fall season, Lightwood Games has issued a spooky challenge to all Jigsaw Party players; to submit their Halloween or fall/autumn themed photos to be turned into jigsaws for a chance to win a $25 (or equivalent currency) iTunes gift card. Jigsaw Party is the first competitive jigsaw puzzle app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and can be downloaded for free from the App Store so anyone can enter this competition.

Photo submissions can be anything related to Halloween or the fall season, whether it's a cackling jack-o-lantern or beautiful autumn leaves, as long as it's the player's own photo and won't scare the kids! Players can submit their photos through the app, via email to support@lightwoodgames.com or by posting them on the Lightwood Games Forum. Selected photos will then be added to the Halloween category within the picture library of Jigsaw Party. The deadline for submissions is 28th October but there's no need to wait with the Halloween category already filling up fast. The winner will be determined by the highest rated photo on 1st November and will be rewarded with a $25 (or 15) iTunes gift card.

Jigsaw Party, released just one month ago, has already been a huge hit among fans of the genre. The latest update to the game has enhanced playability, with different colour themes, shake to scatter pieces functionality, and the option to hide pieces that are not in use. Players can compete in a real time race with each other by simultaneously doing the same jigsaw puzzle or complete puzzles in the traditional solo mode.

In terms of the jigsaw puzzles themselves, players can choose various puzzles sizes using hundreds of photos in the ever-increasing puzzle library, or use their own photos. Those who prefer a surprise can have a picture selected at random. After completing the jigsaw, players get to rate the picture, and these ratings are used to determine the top rated puzzles, which are free to all Jigsaw Party users. That's in addition to all the Halloween Contest entries, which will also be free to play throughout October, with user ratings determining the eventual winner!

Independent game developer Steve Jarman today introduces Descend RPG 1.0, his new gaming title for iOS devices. Descend is an old-school, first-person, grid-based RPG inspired by the classics of yesteryear. With over a dozen expansive dungeon levels, Descend takes place in a richly furnished world. Sydney, Australia - Independent game developer Steve Jarman today is pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of Descend RPG to the App Store. Descend is an old-school, first-person, grid-based RPG inspired by the classics of yesteryear.

If games like "Dungeon Master" and "Eye Of The Beholder" had you glued to your computer a couple of decades ago, then Descend might be the little piece of nostalgia that you've been looking for on the App Store. The game recreates the first-person, grid-based movement of those classic games, while placing the player in a modern, fully 3D environment.

Designed with the mobile platform in mind, Descend is easy to pick up for a few minutes at a time, or for a few hours, making it an RPG that travels easily. The game does all of its saving automatically, allowing players to continue from where they left off whenever they're ready for more.

With over a dozen expansive dungeon levels, lovingly hand-crafted by the developer, Descend takes place in a richly furnished world which looks stunning on the iPhone's tiny screen, and touch input breathes new life into the classic six-button movement controls. With an interesting and captivating plot, Descend will have players unravelling a mystery that threatens the very survival of their people.
