I don't know of any apps, but check out the website of "Stopyourekillingme"
http://www.stopyourekillingme. com/
They have a lot of synopsies and reviews on their website, and put out a newsletter twice a month on recently published books and the winners of a number of awards. Chek it out - it's a great resoutce.

I've found the reader comments on books in Amazon to be helpful in determining whether to buy or read a book...Jim

Google to drop H.264 support for Chrome in favour of WebM (Wired UK):

Randy I'm sorry to hear something like that as I have become so
accustomed to Chrome that I stumble around on Safari. Of course I have
also made gmail my main means of communication.
Thanks for the advice on Flash and the heads-up on Chrome, I will keep
my eyes open for problems and keep Safari updated as an option if it
becomes necessary.

Kind of looks like 'Google takes on the rest of the world' with WebM. After all, it is 'their' codec? Hmmm. What other major company does this sound like??

Save the files in a Folder with their names.

What is the best way to do this — and is there any way to do it chronologically so that, for example, several hundred pictures from a given year or a given month could be placed on a disk and labeled appropriately? Thanks in advance.

Magnetic storage is so inexpensive these days, that it would be cheaper to buy another hard drive to back the files up to. It would cost a great deal more to buy dvd/r or /rw to archive them. r/w technology is NOT recommended for archival purposes anyway. They use a sort of crystalline based technology so that it can be rewritten. The standard write once/read mainly discs would be considered archival.
But, another external or two, hard drives would probably cost you less.
