I've been following along on this topic and decided to give this one a try. I love the fact it's just slightly larger than the phone (the extra bulk was my biggest complaint with Otterbox). I think the thing I will dislike is the difficulty in plugging in headphones, which I use quite often. Having to constantly unscrew that cap seems like it will be a major pain. Time will tell.

Using the waterproof headset interface is part of ensuring the unit is watertight.
I think once you convince yourself you want a completely watertight case, the use of the headset adapter will just be something you do because of the protection this case provides.

I do not have an iPhone yet so I am looking for some advice on what is the
best one to go with. I'm also wondering if anyone is not satisfied with
the one they bought. I have heard the battery life is not good and needs
charging very often.

Right now I'm still using a phone that is about 10 years old and I don't
really make a lot of calls. Not sure if I am really a candidate for such an
expensive phone.

I've had my iphone4 just about 15 months now.

I charge it every night plugged into the imac, need it or not.

On average it only goes down to around 88%, the lowest was down to
roughly 44% that was taking a lot of pictures that day.

I probably average about 5 to 10 minutes of phone usage per week, it is
on AT&T and reports 'no-service' or 1 itsy bitsy part of a bar all day
at work and most of the way to/from. Lots of dropped calls, most of the
time they can't hear me. Unless your in a big city with excellent signal
try another carrier.

The iphone does everything well except phone but that audio can be
improved with earphones/microphone.
Very nice screen but many things are too small to read.

I have a 3GS, upgraded when they dropped the price. I use mine all the time. I do live in a city so I don't experience many dropped calls. Except this one black hole in my kitchen . Weird, huh?
I do recharge every night from a wall connection but I run the battery down to the red zone.
The iPhone is my only phone so there is a lot of use. I also use it as a reader, camera, for work I need Internet access if away from home, texting, and navigation. I have said if there was a way to SAFELY store my drivers lic and debit card on it I would only carry it.

i have the iPhone4 (not the 4s) and love it. like you i had a 6-yr old
motorola V710 and was looking for a new phone. my original plan was to
change to just a plain cellphone but a buddy had an iphone and combined with
the unlimited data plan from verizon i bit. i'm very glad i did. battery
life will be dependent on how you use it but best case for me is about 18-24
hours. some days i have to re-charge in the middle of the day but on most
others the charge lasts all day. and i have notifications and push ON. i'm
still using iOS v4.x and, for now, see no need to move up to iOs v5.x. the
phone does what i want it to do when i need it to do it.

good luck with your

Hi Carol:

If all you want to do it talk on the phone; use your 10 year old phone.

If you'd also like to...
1) take photographs,
2) make HD movies
3) send text messages
4) keep your address book and calendar

5) send emails
6) surf the internet
7) checkout maps
8) have a gps
9) play games
10) watch movies and TV shows
11) read books and magazines
12) Listen to music

13) etc, etc

Don't consider the iPhone to be a telephone.
Think of it as a powerful, easy to use computer,
that fits in you pocket and does all those things,
and more. That also makes phone calls.

If you're a geek, you'll love it; a Luddite, you'll hate it.

Sincerely,
/b

Jim,

if you have that low a signal all day and during your commute, you should have changed carriers right after you got it. Don't blame the phone on the carrier.

I have a 3GS and the coverage and signal strength in Colorado "draws wind", but here in Oregon, it is great.

Carol,

If all you need is a cell phone then the cost of a iPhone is not justified. If you will use the other features, then by all means go for it. Just chose the carrier that works well for where you are most of the time.

Some, not all, 4S owners are having battery issues and Apple is working to resolve that. But is appears to be a small percentage. There are also things you can turn off to allow better battery time, and most people get a days usage out of their iPhone.

I can listen to audiobooks for most of an 8 hour work day and still have better than 40% of the charge left when I climb in my car for the commute home, where I plug it in to listen to the audiobook and recharge the iPhone.

Also remember the different carriers are offering the 3GS, the 4 and the 4S at different price points, just get it __for__ the carrier that works best for you in your area.

Personally, I have never had a battery issue in 3 years.

The voice telephone function is the LEAST used function of the personal digital assistant that is my iPhone.

AT&T will sell you an iPhone 3GS for $0.99 with a 2-year contract.

USB Car/home combo charger from incase. Will charge all 3, and when you want to charge your external battery, they usually come with a cord USB>Mini or micro USB. You can unplug the USB>Dock cable when you want to charge the battery alone.

Unless her phone number is on an iPhone from the same carrier, you're
going to need the phone carrier to make the switch (and set you up
with a voice/data plan).

I *think*, if you back up the touch onto a computer, and have that
computer set up with her iTunes account and authorized and all the
music on it, you should be able to do a restore from the touch to the
iPhone to get the music and apps, but I have never tried a
touch->iPhone restore

iPhone 4 sync issue

Syncing for the first time in a couple of weeks, with over 5 GB of available space, so I can add a single two-CD set to my phone. For some reason, the sync results in a message saying that I need an additional 16.90 GB of space!

So...what can it possibly think I'm trying to sync at that massive a size?

Audio takes up 20 GB of space on my phone. I have NOT accidentally clicked the control for adding "entire music library".

Any ideas out there? Thanks.

Go through all the tabs carefully to be sure you (or the gremlins) haven't
inadvertently checked some playlist or category that's taking up all that
space. Like maybe some podcast or other subscription that's added some big
items recently. Especially video.

Apple suggests forwarding the spam email
as an attachment to spam@me.com

I've been doing that. I can't be sure Apple
is using it to block spammers but the frequency
dropped way down for me.

This is only going to work if me.com is the email you use on your phone.

I doubt they'd appreciate it if I forwarded the spam that comes to me at my
isp email (their spam trap doesn't catch everything).
