Good afternoon group, I have a question. I have a iPad2 and I'm using it on wifi from the job Now when I'm on wifi I can't seem to get my emails. Is there something I have to turn on in order to get my emails.

Your problem might be a firewall at work preventing this.

Thanks Jim, I do have Firefox. That's may be it. Should I turn it off when I want to read my emails?

I find that problem often. The wifi provider has a block. With iPhone I have to turn off wifi. You won't have that option with a wifi-only iPad.

I found the screen guard difficult because of the air bubbles. Most of them came out shortly after putting it on but I still have two or three along the edge.

That's not entirely true. Cases designed for the original AT&T iPhone
4 will not necessarily fit on the 4S. And there are plenty of those
still for sale on the interwebs. If the case says it's compatible
with AT&T & Verizon (or Sprint) iPhone 4 (or the 4S), then you are ok.
I've bought a few cases very recently that ended up being for the
original 4 and either didn't fit, or only barely so.

It's also unnecessary for most people.
I got a 3GS in July 2009, a 4 in 2010 (when I passed the 3GS along to my wife), and a 4S in 2011 (when I passed the 4 to my wife).
None have a screen obscurer, and none have a scratch, despite frequent daily use.
On the other hand I don't keep it in a pants pocket with loose diamonds (one of the very few things harder than the alumino-silicate "Gorilla" glass material of the screen and therefore capable of scratching it).

I get cases for my iDevices so I can hang on to them better --
grip-ability & anti-drop-itis.
Just simple cases that I like the look of.
I have some battery-chargers as well, in case I'm on the road or the power
goes out.
The only screen protector I have is on my first iTouch since I didn't know
how things would go. Didn't get any for my iPhone4, iPad1, or iTouch4.
My iPad1 case is the Apple original and it closes over the screen to protect
it being carried around but not while in use.
I also have several extra charging cords for the small devices (I charge in
more than one spot) and the iPad charger with the long cord for taking
places -- mostly I'm charging the iPad with the charger that came with it.
And I do have car chargers as well, though I hardly ever need them.

I don't keep the iPhone in my pocket either but I still opted for the screen guard. I still managed to put it on quite well.

Can you explain why IMAP is more secure?
I thought I read that iCloud only offered IMAP, and that POP was being dropped with MobileMe. Not that it matters to me as I didn't even know POP was available with MM.

Recreating the account is the reason the emails are reappearing.
Paul Deyo's suggestion of deleting them using web-mail will preventing them from coming back (and explains how), the same as your delete them on the server.
The only reason I can imaging having the settings for Mail on the iPhone set so high so that it downloads 1800 emails is that it is Susan's only access to the internet. Which I find hard to believe. But she wants to delete them, so the easy answer is to change the settings on how many emails should download, and not worry how many are on the server in the first place.

What do you mean "more secure"?
I use POP just fine; I don't *want* everything on everything.
I keep some msgs on my phone for a while, a few in the phone-trash for a day
or so, and everything else on my pc. I also leave it on the server, sorted
into various folders as backup.
I'm not planning on any cloud-ing just yet.

From what I understand, IMAP is more secure than POP. I haven't had any luck
with Pop and iCloud syncing. I switched tonIMAP and all is well and syncing

It's possible to run imap over an encrypted channel (ssl/tls) Don't think that's usually supported with POP

Have you gone to your mail website and deleted your mail? There should be a way in settings on your mail website to set it to delete mail from its servers after download.

Welcome Pat.
Thank you for asking specific questions, rather than shoot gun questions like what are the must have apps and accessories. You gave enough specifics to narrow down the responses.
I'm a Mac user, but everyone says that Outlooks will sync with the calendar and contacts.
Enjoy the group, it is quite informative.

currently have an EVO 4g and use Outlook for my calendar and contacts. Will
Outlook also work with the iPhone?
===================== ========= ========= ===
Yes, Outlook/iPhone will sync with Outlook for the calendar, contacts, and
notes (the built-in app on the phone).
(see recent thread on "calendar and contacts")
I don't know if it will also sync things like tasks.

That's what I use.
Outlook also syncs with the built-in Notes app.
My Outlook contacts (which are also my iDevice contacts) are a subset of my
total WinLiveMail contacts.
I am considering moving i-sync-info things to cloud-based but not just yet.

I took my iPhone4 to the GB yesterday because the sleep button had gotten
balky before quitting work altogether. The phone would only go to sleep on
the auto-timer-to-sleep -- but at least otherwise it still *worked* so I
wasn't totally frazzled over it all & could wait a day or two for when it
was otherwise convenient to go to Apple.
Thank goodness for Apple Care!
(and that I'd backed up -- twice! and copied the backups!) before going in)
GB said he knew what was most likely wrong (something about the
sleep-button-spring inside going awry) and swapped out the phone. Set the
new one up & registered it to me & so on (then it had the original screen
with the "raindrops" on it) & then took it back to update to iOS5 -- which
left it totally useless other than to make emergency phone calls until I got
home & restored from backup.
and then...
as chance would have it this was one of those days when I needed
to make...an emergency phone call... on the way home (reporting a traffic
hazzard/accident waiting to happen). It helped that I was able to call from
the same jurisdiction as the problem was in so I got the right call-center.
Now I'm learning about iOS5.
I also took the opportunity -- & made a 2nd appointment -- since I had to go
out there anyway -- to get my Touch4 updated to iOS5 as well. (someday I may
take my iPad out....)
bj
p.s. GB didn't even ask if I might be interested in upgrade to 4S. He also
said it was a good thing I had an ATT phone as they were easier to swap
out -- dunno why.

I went hiking this morning and got some great videos on my 4S of Beavers getting branches for the winter. However, when I put them on my Windows 7 laptop, Quicktime shows them all flipped 90 degrees, argh, I probably should have held the iPhone sideways rather than upright.
So, I would like to rotate the movies, I would like to zoom in and crop, and I would like to string several of them into one continuous file.
I have spent the afternoon Googling video editing software but can't tell which one would be easy but able to do those things. I thought of Quicktime Pro but the reviews are terrible. I'm not looking for free, I'm looking for easy to use.
I did upload one clip to YouTube if you would like to take a look. I've been watching these beavers for the whole summer and they are really fun, and quite used to me by now. The temperature here (Quebec, Canada) is getting below freezing at night and the beavers are in urgent mode now.

When I log in to Icloud, I see my calendar , Iworks, Contacts and
Email all OK, but there is NO icon for access to pictures. On my
Iphone settings I have photo stream enabled in the Icloud area and I
have done a few test pictures while home and close to my WiFI , still
no pictures making it up to the Icloud. Am I correct in thinking that
pictures should automatically make it to Icloud if I am within range
of a Wifi network, no sync needed ?
