Ac1dSn0w Jailbreak Tool Contains Copyrighted Code

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 04:50 PM PST

Earlier today we reported on the recently released iOS 5 jailbreak tool Ac1dSn0w. The Mac-only utility came from the Pwn Dev Team, who aren’t as highly regarded as the Dev and Chronic Dev teams, but they’re well-known.

With that in mind, we posted a tutorial, as we always do, on how to jailbreak your iOS 5 device using the new software. But we’ve since learned that Ac1dSn0w contains Apple’s copyrighted code, so therefore it’s illegal to use…(...)

Siri Dictation Now Available For Free On the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, iPhone 3GS [Video]

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 02:05 PM PST

Hackers have been trying to port Siri to older iDevices since the virtual assistant was announced alongside the iPhone 4S. Siri doesn’t technically require the new handset’s A5 processor and increased memory, so limiting the technology to the 4S is clearly a marketing maneuver.

We’ve already seen Siri running on an iPhone 4, so we know it’s possible. But those instances required special circumstances, and we didn’t know if we’ll ever see a public release. Siri’s dictation feature has now been made publicly available in Cydia for the iPhone 4, and it actually works.(...)

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 with Ac1dSn0w [Updated]

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 01:14 PM PST

We’ve told you about Ac1dSn0w, the new jailbreak tool from the Pwn Dev Team. Ac1dSn0w is a Mac-only app that jailbreaks iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1. The jailbreak is tethered, meaning that you will have to re-jailbreak every time you reboot your iDevice.

Ac1dSn0w is in its first beta, meaning that it has a few bugs and should not be considered as totally stable. We have already heard that it does not jailbreak the CDMA iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. There are probably more bugs to be found.

We’ve got a full tutorial on how to jailbreak with Ac1dSn0w Beta 1 after the break…(...)

Ac1dSn0w: A New Jailbreak Tool is Here

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 12:08 PM PST

A new jailbreak tool is here, and it’s not from the Dev or Chronic Dev Team. The Pwn Dev Team has released Ac1dSn0w, a new tool for jailbreaking iOS 5 on the Mac.

Ac1dSn0w currently offers a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 for users running OS X Snow Leopard or Lion. As an alternative to popular jailbreak tools like RedSn0w, PwnageTool and Sn0wBreeze, Ac1dSn0w is available for free right now.(...)

Meet Romo, the iPhone-Powered Robot

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 09:00 AM PST

We’ve seen multiple iOS-controlled helicopters and other robotic accessories over the last few months. Apparently, using your iDevice to remotely control a bite-sized vehicle is becoming quite popular.

But even though the RC market is getting crowded, there is still tons of room for innovative products. Romotive proves that with Romo, the first iPhone/iPod touch-powered (and controlled) robot… (...)

Siri Proxy Used to Control TV, Gives Us a Glimpse at the Future

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 08:00 AM PST

Ever since Pete Lamonica, a.k.a plamoni, unveiled his Siri proxy project last week, we’ve been excited to see what developers would come up with. The project allows knowledgable programmers to “teach” Siri new commands using a public proxy server.

We’ve seen Siri control a Wi-Fi thermostat, and we’ve even seen her start a car, but all of that is child’s play compared to what this user taught the digital assistant to do. Using the proxyand a Plex command line interface, he uses Siri to control his TV…(...)

HTC Loses Money Thanks to Struggling Economy and Competition From Apple and Samsung

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 07:00 AM PST

Out of all of the Android manufacturers, perhaps no other company has benefited from Google’s mobile operating system more than HTC. The Taiwanese handset-maker created some of the world’s first smartphones, and the company has really taken off since Android hit.

In fact, HTC has been nearly unstoppable since it launched the first Android handset back in 2008, experiencing a sales growth streak that spanned nearly two years. But in the face of stiff competition and an ailing economy, its streak has finally come to an end…(...)
