Posted: 29 Nov 2011 05:11 PM PST

Earlier we told you about the update to TouchPad, a VNC remote control app for iOS devices. It’s a well known app in itself, but this latest update is sure to make a few people ecstatic.

Indeed, Edovia — the highly esteemed developers behind this and other great apps, like Screens — has updated TouchPad to allow Siri dictation between an iPhone 4S and a Mac, Windows, or even Linux machine if that suits your fancy.

Check out our video demonstration inside…(...)

New Best Buy TV Ad Touts iPad and Other Apple Products

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 04:16 PM PST

Judging by recent events, Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch may be more popular than ever before. Not only did it record its biggest sales day ever during Black Friday last week, but it was also among the top 5 most visited retail chains.

In fact, you don’t have to look any further than Best Buy’s recent holiday commercial to gauge the level of the company’s popularity. The retailer has been an authorized Apple dealer for years, and it wants to make sure everyone knows that this holiday season…(...)

Custom NoNewsLabel Adds Text to Notification Center

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 03:45 PM PST

We’ve all been there. You deleted all of your notifications in Notification Center and were hit you with the “No New Notifications” text in bold white letters.

Couldn’t Apple have been a bit more creative, or at least a bit more subtle? Do we really need our iPhone to tell us that we have no new notifications when it’s already obvious?

If you feel that way, then Custom NoNewsLabel is perhaps right up your alley. It’s a jailbreak tweak that allows you to eliminate or customize the “No New Notifications” text. Check out the video details inside…(...)

SwitchSubstrate: Disable All Mobile Substrate Tweaks Simultaneously

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 03:15 PM PST

One of my favorite things about SBSettings is the Mobile Substrate Addons feature that allows you to selectively disable a jailbreak tweak temporarily.

But wouldn’t it be cool if we could disable every Mobile Substrate Addon with one fell swoop? Well, now you can. Introducing SwitchSubstrate, a jailbreak app that allows you to disable all of your Mobile Substrate tweaks with the simple tap of a button…(...)

iOS 5.1 Disables Home Screen Settings Shortcuts

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 02:30 PM PST

Earlier this month, we showed you how to create home screen shortcuts for Settings toggles without jailbreaking. The method has become quite popular over the last few weeks, catching the attention of UI designers like Jeff Broderick.

Given that there’s no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, and no jailbreak for the new iPhone 4S at all, a lot of folks have started using these shortcuts as a temporary replacement for SBSettings. And if you’re one of those users, you may not want to update to iOS 5.1…(...)

Kindle Fire Becomes One of Best Buy’s Top Selling Tablets… But Wait…

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 02:11 PM PST

TechCrunch is reporting that the Kindle Fire is becoming Best Buy’s best -selling tablet.

Amazon's first foray into the tablet world seems to be a runaway success. The Fire has occupied the top spot on Amazon's best sellers list for weeks even prior to the device shipping. Now, at Best Buy, the $199 Fire sits higher the 16GB iPad as the top selling device in the hot category. Yep, it's safe to say that Amazon is well on its way to officially winning the Android tablet wars.

So yes, if you look at it, the Kindle Fire holds the #1 spot. The reality is that there is only one Kindle Fire and there are 12 different iPad 2 models. Mind you, out of the 10 best selling tablets at Best Buy, 5 of them are iPads. At any rate, it’s good news for Amazon.

How to Experience Windows Phone 7 on Your iPhone

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 12:45 PM PST

Between being nearly three years behind the competition and trying to erase consumers’ bad memories of previous devices, Microsoft has its work cut out for it with Windows Phone 7. The platform recently fell below 2% in overall smartphone marketshare.

The Redmond company has come up with a pretty interesting marketing ploy to attract iOS and Android users to its mobile OS: an interactive website. The page fully immerses visitors in Windows Phone’s Metro UI, and here’s how you can access it…(...)

The Daily reports that Microsoft is working on an iPad version of their popular Office software suite.

Microsoft is planning a version of its Office business app for the iPad, The Daily has learned.

According to sources, the tech giant is actively working on adapting its popular software suite for Apple's tablet. With the iPad making up over 80 percent of the tablet market and millions of people worldwide using Office, that could mean big bucks for the tech giant based in Redmond, Wash.

It’s unclear when Office for iOS will be released, but it should be sometime next year.

RIM to Offer Enterprise Tools for iPhone and Android

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 12:02 PM PST

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. That’s the approach BlackBerry maker Research In Motion is taking with its ailing smartphone market. The company has announced that it will be offering an easy way to get iPhones and Android users plugged into its enterprise tools.

The move by the once-dominant force in the business smartphone industry illustrates the relevance that Apple and Google have made in a sector that was almost entirely owned by RIM not that long ago.

Perhaps more importantly, this may well be the first sign of RIM trying to move away from offering hardware, in an attempt to concentrate on the software and security their past successes were built on.(...)

Siri0us Removed From Cydia While Developer Finds Another Voice Recognition Service

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 11:53 AM PST

Siri0us, the jailbreak tweak that allows iPhone 4, 3GS, and iPod touch owners to use Siri dictation, has been pulled from the Cydia store. We exclusively showed you Siri0us in action a couple of days ago, and many have started using the hack to use a Nuance-flavored version of Siri’s dictation feature on older iDevices.

After the Siri0us servers experienced several outages due to high traffic over the last 48 hours, the developer, Eric Day, has removed Siri0us from Cydia. Eric is looking for a different voice recognition service that he can use legally in his tweak.(...)
