Perceptive Automation today announces Indigo 5, an update to the company's intelligent home control server for Mac OS X. Indigo now supports a plugin API that gives 3rd Party developers the ability to add native device types, trigger events, and actions. Built-in plugins include access to weather data, AV control, and EasyDAQ relay support. Other new features include a new complex condition editor, user interface improvements, and support for new and updated INSTEON devices.

Dallas, Texas - Perceptive Automation, the leading provider of Mac-based home automation software, today announced the immediate availability of Indigo 5, an update to the company's intelligent home control and automation server for Mac OS X. With Indigo, users can easily monitor and control lights, appliances, thermostats, lawn sprinklers, and dozens of other items found in the home. Sophisticated logic and schedules can be created to reduce energy and water usage and the entire house can be remotely controlled from browsers or the native iOS app.

New with this release is a Python-based Plugin API. This API gives 3rd Party developers the ability to add native device types, trigger events, and actions which are fully integrated into the Indigo User Interface and server. Indigo is the first Mac home automation software to provide developers with a clearly documented and thorough plugin mechanism. Plugins are implemented in the popular Python programming language and are sandboxed to help ensure that no single plugin can interfere with the operation of the server.

"With the new API, Indigo Pro users will have access to a much wider range of devices and data integrations without the need for us to release a new version of Indigo for each new technology," said Matt Bendiksen, president of Perceptive Automation. "Development of new features has accelerated significantly through new functionality added by 3rd party developers. Internally we can also deliver functionality much more quickly given that we can deliver plugins outside of a full Indigo release."

Indigo 5 includes several plugins, such as:
* Support for EasyDAQ relay devices
* Native support for iTunes(R) which allows Indigo to control any number of iTunes servers
* Weather data integration via NOAA and the popular WeatherSnoop(TM) application, providing support for personal weather station hardware as well as WeatherUnderground
* Control of DIRECTV DVRs via simple Indigo actions

There are several 3rd party plugins available as well which cover integrations like the Global Cache infrared and relay devices, various alarm systems and other security-related products, energy monitoring systems, thermostats, and smartphone based location and proximity detection.

"I've spent a lot of time working on AppleScripts to control the Jandy Aqualink automated pool/spa system, but always had to troubleshoot problems others had, especially with setting up the scripts, that I hoped might be cured with the new plugin architecture," said Jim Yergey, Research Manager at Merck & Company. "In a span of a month or so I learned Python programming and was able to develop functional plugins to control both the Jandy and Pentair pool systems. Great plugin foundation, great documentation online, and great help on the discussion boards!"

Indigo 5 also includes a new condition editor for creating arbitrarily complex hierarchical rules using a simple and intuitive Mac OS user interface. Rules can include device state value comparisons, date and time ranges, and variable to variable comparisons in addition to daylight/dark and traditional variable comparisons.

Along with the new Plugin API, a new Python-based scripting environment has also been added. Scripts can now be written in either AppleScript or Python. "The new Python Indigo object model enables users to write scripts that can take advantage of the wealth of publicly available Python libraries while retaining complete access to objects on the Indigo server," said Jay Martin, a partner at Perceptive Automation. "Adding a more popular scripting environment to Indigo will lead to more complete and diverse solutions by drawing on the active Python development community."

Indigo 5 also introduces several new usability features: keyboard shortcuts that are context sensitive to what's being displayed; user customizable columns in all UI tables, context-sensitive menus on all major objects, and an expanded and revised Help menu. Additional help buttons are spread throughout the UI to help guide users through the various features. Drag-and-drop and copy/paste have been implemented in the Control Page Editor to enable moving elements from one control page to another and to facilitate import/export.

Other new functionality includes support for video cameras via auto-refreshing images on control pages, improved INSTEON KeypadLinc button LED management, native actions to remove delayed actions, and the ability to enable/disable communication on a per-device basis. Support for new INSTEON hardware modules includes: iMeter Solo, v2 Thermostat Adaptor with support for new broadcast messages, and compatibility with new firmware updates on several other devices.

Pricing and Availability:
Indigo 5 Pro is available now for $179.95 and Indigo 5 Lite for $89.95, both through Perceptive Automation online. Owners of previous versions of Indigo can get an upgrade discount to Indigo 5. Also available online is a 30 day trial copy of Indigo 5 Pro. Indigo runs on Mac OS X 10.5 or greater.

In this new application for iPad and iPhone by New York design studio FusionLab, beautiful hand-engraved alphabet prints from the 19th century come to life with engaging and entertaining 21st century interactive play. Touch-screen technology and gentle animation seamlessly merged with the look and sound of yesteryear help children learn while having fun.

New York, New York - Inspired by the beautiful hand-engraved art of German-born lithographer and illustrator Joseph Martin Kronheim, famous in the mid-1800s for the elegance and precision of his work, New York multimedia design studio FusionLab chose the exquisite alphabetic illustrations from his My First Picture Book to develop their first game app, Antique ABCs, a learning tool for young children exclusively for iPad and iPhone.

FusionLab's partners originally discovered Kronheim's work through Project Gutenberg online. However, to get the high-quality images they needed for the app they had to track down an original printing of the book, which proved difficult to do. A copy was finally located through a rare books dealer, with engravings in good condition but a broken and frayed spine and cover - time-worn imperfections that were incorporated into the app design.

Another interesting and perhaps key feature of Kronheim's alphabet: the letters J and X are mysteriously missing. Painter and FusionLab partner Melissa Weaver took this as a challenge to her painting skills, creating from scratch her own illustrations that blend in perfectly with the look of their charmingly antiquated comrades.

When the two missing letters were completed and the entire alphabet ready, it was time to bring the 19th century art to life with FusionLab's ingenious modern-day animations and touch-screen interactions. Antique ABCs presents the alphabet with three different functions: Song, Spinner and Shuffle. Throughout, period-evocative music and sound effects recall innocent pastimes of long ago while a friendly voice-over gives prompts and pronunciations.

Song mode introduces the letters of the alphabet by upper and lower case, phonetic sound and corresponding word ("J for Jam"). Children can also choose to play the classic Alphabet Song, which is accompanied by enchanting animation of its vintage images and appropriate sound effects. The Spinner gives an enjoyable "rattle" when the user scrolls the screen, and tests knowledge of the alphabet as letters come up in randomized order. Children can see both letters and pictures, or choose to see letters only, so that they can guess the corresponding word. If stuck, they can "lift" the door partway to get a peek at an animating hint, or all the way to see the answer.

The Shuffle game (available on iPad only) challenges children to reorder the jumbled alphabet back into order. In classic mode, the letters are randomly shuffled in a fixed grid and must be dragged and dropped into place. In the second, free-for-all mode, the letters "spill" onto the board and float around, seemingly sensitive to gravity, as the child tilts the iPad. To solve the game, the child must "dig" through the pile of cards to find the next letter needed and drag and drop it into place. In both Shuffle modes, successful completion is rewarded with the animated Song play.

Toronto, Canada - Challenging players to go on a magical and fun-filled journey, Cut Out Games today introduces Ink Gem Adventure, its new iPhone game featuring an adventure-seeking rabbit who travels through five unique worlds searching for treasure. The casual puzzle game is now available in both free and full versions.

To celebrate the launch, the company is also announcing a special contest beginning today. Anyone who "Likes" Cut Out Games on Facebook will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of five plushies of Winston the rabbit, the main character in Ink Gem Adventure. Each stuffed animal is hand-made, so no two are exactly alike. This limited-time contest ends December 31, 2011, and more information is available at the company's Facebook page.

In Ink Gem Adventure, players guide Winston to collect all the gems in the level before time runs out. Using Winston's magical paintbrush, players draw lines of ink for him to bounce off. These lines guide Winston toward the precious jewels and away from danger.

"In Ink Gem Adventure, you and Winston go on a fun and exciting trip across many fantastical worlds," said Katherine Weir, Founder of Cut Out Games. "It's a game that anyone can pick up and start playing right away."

Ink Gem Adventure features 100 unique levels, challenging players to unlock the secrets of all five worlds: Forest, Fire, Ice, Jungle, and Factory. A free version of the game is also now available, with 20 levels for players to try: 10 from the Forest world and 10 from the Fire world.

In the game, players send Winston rolling toward the gems by touching and dragging him. They can choose any direction and just release to fire. To make Winston go in a particular direction, players can drag their finger anywhere on the screen to draw lines that Winston will bounce off of.

Adding to the challenge, each level has a 60 second time limit where players try to collect all the gems and avoid sending Winston off the screen or into a hazard.

"Ink Gem Adventure is fast-paced and exciting," Katherine Weir said. "The clock is always ticking so you need to think fast and act even faster to complete each puzzle."

Each of the five worlds has 20 different levels with its own set of challenges that can help Winston on his quest or set him back. If he falls off of the screen, the level will restart and valuable time will be wasted.

Players should also beware of some of the games' many pitfalls and hazards. For example, spider webs slow Winston down to half speed and fire makes Winston go off in a random and unexpected direction.

Features of the Ink Gem Adventure game include:
* Intuitive gameplay: Guide Winston by aiming him and drawing lines with his magical paintbrush.
* Fantastical worlds: Unlock five different worlds (forest, fire, ice, jungle, and factory) by completing each level.
* Fast-paced puzzles: Beat the 60-second timer by collecting all the gems for one level.
* Dangerous obstacles: Avoid cobwebs and other challenges on screen that want to slow Winston down.

"In fact, the Pocket Brain has been know to forget stuff, but never fear, it remembers some information-sometimes!"

An anonymous reviewer wrote: "This is the least-great app I have on my iPhone, and that is absolutely saying something...I've got some real crap on my iPhone! I'm so glad I wasted my life savings on this app. Just today, it forgot that I was supposed to pick up my daughter from school, but then it remembered...a day later! She was so pissed and hungry when I got there. I thought it was funny, though... it was, like, real artificial intelligence, complete with forgetfullness! What an app!"

With over 2 downloads (estimated, more-or-less) over the past month, the app has so much potential. This may be the application that makes Abe Balsamo & Co. (the '& Co.' is his dad's dog, Fifi) famous. "Maybe someday I'll be able to move out of my parent's garage (which he calls "The Garage") or at least help with the rent!" "I've already made more off it than Apple has made off of their "Reminders" app, maybe someone should remind them to charge for theirs'," Balsamo says laughing out loud. He points out that "he's sure" Apple spent more time and money developing their app than he did. "Apple's business model is all messed up! How do they expect to ever make a dime?" Balsamo asks rhetorically.

With such high expectations on this underachieving Apple Application, Abe Balsamo & Co. has nowhere to go but up. "It's good to be at the bottom, looking up. That way, I can see how much more I need to offer to be successful. At least I'm not in the forest (in the competitive market) where I probably couldn't see the forest for the trees." How then, could Mr. Balsamo know that his application is so fricken bad? He has a point!

With so much to be done and some much competition to conquer, optimism is high in "The Garage". "I think I'll go to the the coffee shop this weekend, celebrate my success by spending my $1.40 on a cup-of-joe, and harass the guy next to me to download my app. Then I can write it off as a business expense and maybe get another download...that would be awesome!" As you can see, Balsamo is a business genius and really has nowhere to go but up! In Balsamo's own words, "I have finally gotten a significant piece of the market share in a burgeoning multi-billion dollar industry.
