It's clear that I owe an apology to original poster asking about an iPad stylus.
I shouldn't respond when I don't have direct experience of something.

Safari gone from  MacBook Pro

Here's a question for someone who knows more about computers than I...

I had WAY too many windows open in Safari a little while ago, and the computer had become VERY slow, so I decided that shutting it down and letting it 'clear its throat" so to speak was a good idea, so I shut it down,

In the process I had to force-quit Safari.

When I restarted a few minutes later Safari had disappeared from the Dock. I figured that was no problem, that I would just go to Applications and drag it back onto the Dock. But when I searched Applications it was no where to be found, and a search of the entire computer gave the same result.

So, I downloaded it and re-installed it, and dragged it back onto the Dock.

But what would have caused this to happen in the first place?

My computer is a MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 running OS 10.6.8

Thanks!

Patti

Have copied a folder call 'V2' in the Libaray->Mail. A folder in that folder named 'IMAP-jas1931@gmail.com' size 9GB, which is my main account.
There are also other IMAP accounts. And Mailboxes folder, which are ok, only the INBOX is mess up.

What do you mean by "have copied a folder called v2?".

Copied from where and to where?

Are you running Lion? It might be an issue with Gmail Imap and Lion.

Think you should Google for Apple Mail v2. There are a number of posts on the topic and on IMAP issues and a preference setting that could help.

Look like I'm good. Mail, that is.
From TimeMachine I restored:

user->Library->Mail->V2 and
user->Library->Preference->com.apple.mail.plist

from before 11:00am today.

After restore ran Mail. Got dialog as if updating to new version. It imported over 250k messages.
All five of my accounts are accounted for.

Dan: Took a look at Apple Support as recommended. Looks as if a number of people have had problems with mail.

Yes. We've been seeing some problems here for sure.

I suspect one of the problems is a huge increase in use of email and a huge increase in the time it's used (like 24/7 for many), and increase in use of multiple mail accounts and services.

This is stressing programs and likely most often when a system is upgraded.

Then re-enter the other accounts into Mail.app.

Mail can only retrieve and send email from accounts that it is aware of.

Thanks for all the interesting and helpful posts about maybe (or maybe not) using a stylus with my soon-to-be-here iPad.

I really think at this point I will not be looking for a stylus. I really appreciate the helpful insight into the possible need of or use of a stylus. It just doesn't seem that I will be needing one at this time.

Thanks again! And thanks DD for your "apology", but none was needed! :-)

Mail Attachments

I am using Lion on a 2 year old MacBookPro 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB memory. My Mail has many folders. I get an email every business day that has two attachments: one in .doc, and the other as a .txt. The
email including these attachments are put into a folder. However, I can not find the place that mail stores the attachments.
I want to be able to gather all these attachments and make copies so that I can have an archive of all 2011 attachments in this folder.

Does anyone know how to do this. When I used Eudora on Windows it was easy to find the attachments, zip them together and archive them.

How do I accomplish this without going through every email, opening the attachment and resaving. Will drive me buggy!

Thanks,
Tanya

Well, first, you have to make your user Library folder visible (by
default it is invisible under Lion).

The easiest way to do that is to download this free utility:

Lion Tweaks (free, donations accepted)
http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/19/lion-tweaks-customizes-mac-os-x-
features-easy/

Once you have a visible user Library folder, your Mail attachments
are in this folder:

[hard drive icon] --> Users --> [your user name] --> Library --> Mail
Downloads

Randy,
I did what you told me to and found the Library/Mail Downloads. However it appears that most are not stored here, those that I have not opened seem to be missing.
What does Mail do to attachments if they are not opened?
TIA,

It doesn't do anything to them either way. It saves them in that
folder until you either trash the original e-mail it was attached to,
or you trash the attachment.

Mail doesn't store attachments anywhere else.
