A Sat Nav app that includes the maps is bound to take a while to download,
but this is much better than accessing the relevant parts of the map in
real time using 3G.

I think I found the culprit. I was trying to update an app that is bigger than my free space. I think in iOS 5, it simply does not work, unlike before where we get a message saying "not enough space" or something like that.

Yes, I think you are right. It was "guest" access. What I can't figure is why they'd set it up that way since the router is in the apartment and doesn't serve anyone else but the renter.

When I put the password in the Client ID, I was able to use all my apps, not just Safari. But it did "forget" me often. Usually shutting off wifi in settings and turning it back on would work.

Very strange.

> think the issue is the that the Belkin is set up as a guest network. My home router (Linksys) is set up that way with two networks. One that has a padlock and for which I have to enter a WPA password but another one with no padlock. However when you select that one it pops up with a request for a password. This is a simple phrase to restrict access and once entered, the device has access to the internet but not to the home network and other devices on the network.

I think it works like those terms and conditions acceptances you see when logging in at free hotspots at businesses. My daughter's school has something similar and if you turn off your device or let it go to sleep you need to log back in again. It doesn't remember you.

Client ID and password are completely different things. Somewhere things
have got muddled.

I'm pretty interested in the 4s now that talk of problems with it has slowed some. If I were to get one now, I wouldn't be able to get the new one that comes out next year. If Apple is going to do what they've done in the past, next years upgrade will be better than this years upgrade. I had the sit gen iPhone, skipped the 3G, got 3Gs and now have the 4. I didn't think the 3G was a significant enough upgrade from the 1st gen. Same with the 4s. For me, Siri would be fun for awhile but I think it would just be a novelty for me. I would really like the better camera but I have a Canon 50D DSLR and the faster processor, I got the iPad 2 because of the faster processor and haven't really noticed a speed increase until iOS 5 came out, so I didn't think I'd notice much difference in processor speed.

old email messages,etc

I'm confused. On my iPhone 4 I just tell it to give me 50 email messages max for each account and that's all I get. I don't have it set to delete from the iPhone, since that could be dangerous. I prefer to use the computer for that.

I don't understand why zillions of messages would come up on the phone, unless the settings on the new update are different. I still haven't even done the update to 5 because I keep hearing everyone's horror stories.

Go to settings mailbox and scroll down to the show tab and change it to how many emails you want to see for the mailbox.

The default is 50 and the old max used to be 200 messages per account.

I'm now on iOS 5.0.1 and you can have a max of 1000 messages per account.

Someone apparently doesn't know when to say enough.

Change to a lower number and then mark the read messages.

I'm confused, too.
Why do you feel deleting on the iPhone would be "dangerous"?

I guess, it is like doing a quick erase of a hard drive. All it does is erase the directory.

How is it a violation of your privacy? It might be a case of not meeting up to your assumptions, but it is not a violation of your privacy. Nothing was share with another party.

Try setting the iPhone to the factory settings and then check with iExplorer if the voice memo is still there.

Check with your service provider for a Canadian roaming plan. They are cheap.

Would call Customer Service to check.

Turn off Data Roaming. Settings-General- Network --- data roaming to Off.

Turning off Voice roaming may help, but not certain.

Turn on Airplane mode will turn off 3G. You can turn WiFi back on if you
can use wifi for email.

We live near water and Canada several miles across the water. Can get a
text msg saying welcome to Canada, blah, blah. Our phone is now set for
Data Roaming Off to prevent most connections to Canada.
Haven't had a problem recently with Voice connecting by accident while
in US, but has happened years ago. A call to Verizon, in our case, and
saying --- haven't left the country-- has gotten the charge removed.
If you will go into Canada, Verizon's calling plan is not costly.

From what I understand, IMAP is more secure than POP. I haven't had any luck with Pop and iCloud syncing. I switched tonIMAP and all is well and syncing as its suppose to with all my devices and iCloud.
