You can buy an unlocked iPhone 4S from Apple. They start about $629.00 for the 16 gb ones.

Searching CraigsList.org in my area shows many used iPhones,
unlocked, for much much less than the new price from Apple.

Are those less expensive ones 4S ?

If you don't want a 4S, you *of course* can save money.

Pat, be careful.

AT&T monitors their accounts and which phones are used on them. They may add a data plan to it.

aha! I recall that you and I purchased our "twin" 27 inchers within
weeks of each other, and we have both shared some of the same kinks
in our Macs. Thanks for letting me know - probably, Apple is aware of
this problem, then, in their iMacs from that "era". I'm grateful they
are going to send a tech here. It sure will be nice.

yep. i got most of the kinks worked out.
the ones that i haven't worked out i am just ignoring. ha.
when i was talking to the senior tech, he asked me to put in a CD, then a DVD.
i seem to recall the CD would go in, but not the movie DVD. something like that.
so, then he offered to send a guy out, and i got to watch the process of the suction
cups on the screen to remove that, and look at the "guts" of my iMac.
continued good luck with yours,

Have a look at:
http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/aw/page2.html

In short, only Pages will open AppleWorks word processing documents
close to perfectly and allow you to save them in a modern format. And
unfortunately, it won't do it in a batch. (However, since Pages is
scriptable, you could use Automator or AppleScript to create a script
to do this pretty easily.)

Also, recent versions of Microsoft Word include an AppleWorks file
converter available for installation on the install disk that it comes
on. I don't know how well this converter works, and I doubt that it
will convert files in a batch either.:
http://lin.wsd.wednet.edu/trthelp/techhelpPDF/wordopenappleworks.pdf

There used to be a batch translator from DataViz, but it stopped
being sold a couple of years ago. You might be able to find it on eBay.

Randy,

I just tried the procedure you gave for turning off IPv6 and didn't
get past selecting Network under System Preferences. On my machine
nothing was as described from that point on. Since I'm still running
OS 10.5.8 on my G5, I've concluded that the procedure given calls for
a newer OS (Lion, perhaps?). Do you know of a procedure for this for
10.5.8?

Thanks,

In Lion 10.7.2 there is no OFF option. Only Automatic, Manual and Link-local only. Is Link-local only like OFF?

I've never tried turning it off in Lion.

It looks like there are two ways to turn IPv6 off in Lion. The first
is to manually modify a prefs file:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3202188?start=0&tstart=0

The second is to use a simple UNIX command in Terminal:
http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20110805100012401

Copy and paste this into Terminal and then hit Return:
networksetup -setv6off Ethernet

If you want to turn IPv6 back on, copy and paste this into Terminal
and then hit Return:
networksetup -setv6automatic

Have a look at the link that I cited, including the responses.
http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20110805100012401

It may be that you aren't using Ethernet for your Internet connection.

Use this command to list your other interfaces, and replace
"ethernet" with the one that you are using:
networksetup listallnetworkservices

If that doesn't do it for you, all that I can recommend is that you
try editing the prefs file instead.

Safari Version 5.1.2 (6534.52.7)

Is anyone having issues after installing the new Safari? I've had a few stumbles since. Restarting in safe boot did nothing. DiskWarrior found nothing. Repairing the disk found nothing. Repairing permissions found quite a bit, but I don't know if that is the issue. There have been quite a few new phishing attacks that Intego has stopped.

Safari seems to have quieted down now.

I'd guess that your Intego product isn't really helping you at all,
but that it is somewhat incompatible with the latest version of
Safari and is causing your glitches. ("Phishing attacks," by the
way, aren't really attacks at all, in that they are not a malicious
program like a virus or Trojan Horse, they are just social
engineering that you either fall for or you don't. You can avoid
them by being educated and careful. You don't need software to avoid
them. )
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing

Also, I'm willing to bet that you will benefit from updating Adobe's
POS, Flash.

Uninstall the copy of Flash that you have installed with this
uninstaller:
uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg>
or
http://is.gd/lrnKUG

Then download the latest version of Flash directly from Adobe, and
install it:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If you currently have the following installed, downloading and
installing the latest versions will probably help also:

Adobe Air

Uninstalled the player and reinstalled per the links you provided.
Still got a phishing attempt warning when going to anything on yahoo.
Reading the warning, it asks if yahoo is a safe site. So I just said yes
and no more warnings. Little Snitch came up and asked then if
a certain server at intego was safe to communicate with. I said yes.
I guess I must have said yes to yahoo along time ago and the safari
update reacquainted me w the question, is yahoo a safe site?

Ever feel like after 20+ years using a computer, and I still get
confused on simple crap? Sheeezzz.

How do you get a phishing attack through a web browser? Phishing is social engineering through email. Or are you using web mail?

Could someone please direct me to where I can get a few answer to questions regarding my iPhoto library and portable hard drive? If not this forum, where else could I ask?
Thanks so much, Roxanne

Seems like a reasonable place here, in my opinion.
