InCube-Chess offers a new version of the well-known chess game. Instead of usual board, the battle between whites and blacks moves to real 3D cube. The name of game makes a hint of the essence of changes: instead of chess board (8x8) it is given the cube (8x8x8) consisting of 512 semitransparent chess cages, and it is important that game rules did not change much. They are just extended to third dimension.

So, figures can make their steps not only in two dimensions, but offers new variants of combinations in third dimension. Chess pieces can move vertically, use diagonals, in sectors, etc. The weight of pieces against each other is preserved in accordance with classical chess game, as well as castle rules. The number of variants grew up dramatically, which makes it interesting to reveal new tactic and strategy approaches. Computer opponent is smart enough to not lose to ordinary human player and in same time it makes its moves very quickly.

OpenGL allows observing the entire chess cube as well as and free operating with pieces. Display mode and transparency may be changed from preferences dialog window, as well as all colors and animation settings. It all looks so intuitively understandable, that it will take some minutes for everyone to start playing the game.

Curiously, in spite of long lasting development, game remained available for everyone, as it has been for one of the most ancient intellectual games of humanity. InCube-Chess is available for Mac OS X 10.6+ with the price which is much cheaper than if you purchase wooden or plastic chess box. At the beginning of 2012, the company is going to ship out iPad version as well as add number of interesting features, such as network game.

Paul Michaels, a former software producer for Hasbro Interactive's Tonka line of computer and console game software, an app developer and award-winning photographer, is using Kickstarter, a funding platform for artists, designers, and filmmakers, to raise the $100,000 needed to finish development of the WILDRZ app.

"Until now, graphic novels - what my parents called comic books - really haven't taken advantage of multimedia technology, even those available on the iPad," said Michaels, a father of three who developed the successful photo sim game, Photo Shootout. "Built for the iPad, WILDRZ tells a fun, rich, interactive and compelling story about real-life animals in jeopardy and the three fictional siblings who help save those animals. We're developing an app that kids will enjoy playing and parents will feel good purchasing because the WILDRZ Graphic Novel app lets kids experience the adventure of saving wildlife from the safety of their iPads."

The iPad WILDRZ app combines 60 pages of comics, 10 mini-games, 20 minutes of video featuring a turtle biologist, access to the biologist's blog, and additional content - and several ways to bring children into the action, including 230 speech balloons in the comics that readers can record using their own voices.

"We have already started work with real-life UMass Amherst-trained turtle biologist, Mark Grgurovic, who is working on a turtle study that inspired the WILDRZ story, and with Dirk Tiede, an experienced comic artist," Michaels added.

The Kickstarter project ends Sunday, Dec. 25th.
