Already did that. I'm starting to think that this is related to WIRELESS syncing...that somehow my system thinks I want to sync ALL my music, even though the "sync all music" box is clearly NOT checked.

I haven't dipped into that particular pool just yet.
Maybe a good call on my part. :-)

I don't think the wireless syncing is the issue. I had the same issue, but always sync through iTunes.

iOS 5 is more sensitive to where the library is kept. I keep mine on an external Drobo that is accessed by WiFi. If it can not immediately access the library, in my case, it creates a new library on the internal drive. In my case it may have been the cause of a similar problem.

I *have* tried exactly that, and it worked perfectly. I had an iPod Touch and bought an iPhone 4 about a year and a half ago. I simply synced my new iPhone to my iTunes and told it to restore from my Touch backup. Done! :)

Place two fingers on the screen and move them closer together or farther apart, and the zoom control will appear.

Love my 4, some battery issues with my husband's 3GS. Would love to upgrade to 4s when ready because of the better photo resolution. I need to charge my 4 and iPad 2 every 2-3 days, depending on how much I use it. My husband's 3GS needs charging daily and it still drops into the 20-30% before the day is done. And his is a new phone due to battery issues thanks to AppleCare.
My adult son got a 3GS, his first iPhone having had Blackberries. I talked him into getting the 4 (he could still swap it because he'd only had it a few days) and he is extremely glad he did.
Good luck with your shopping.

iPhone 4 shut off

Why does the iPhone 4 sometimes take longer to shut off than others? Sometimes when I shut it off I see the spinning wheel turn about 20 times and other times it only turns about 5 times. I did a restore already and that doesn't seem to have any affect on it.

It probably has to do with how many apps are running and how many are in sleep-mode.

I have never seen my 3GS quit as fast as you claim.

Repeating (with modifications) part of an earlier posting:

I am very happy with a Richard Solo 1800 power supply for backup ( http://richardsolo.com/richardsolo1800withcable.aspx ), currently on
sale at $29.9-- which I actually rarely need to use. It doesn't deliver a 100% recharge, but it's easy to carry (always in my backpack). I'm contemplating getting a second one for a long trip. I haven't tried the Mophie, but I used another battery case for a while, and the phone no longer fit comfortably into my shirt pocket, where I always keep it (until they issue a surgically implantable model! ;-). The company sells one that plugs directly into the phone, and one that uses a cable--the latter is much more versatile. Checking their site now, I see they also sell bigger ones that can charge an iPad and other devices.

Beware of third-party charging cables at Radio Shack etc. ("compatible with all iPhones"). Few of them work--at all! For which I blame Apple, rather than Radio Shack--why the heck shouldn't we be able to use third-party stuff?!

You can put that in your email signature. I have something like it so people
know it is coming from an iPhone and might have a typo in it.

Mary, Here is how you set up a siganture on an iPhone:

Settings> General> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Signature

Also, please start a new thread when you want to change the subject. Your
question has nothing to do with Battery Chargers.

The Mophie is a battery charger/case. It doesn't make the iPhone that much thicker, just the same as a case. Mophie is having their Black Friday sale today http://www.mophie.com/battery-cases-s/51.htm

I have not had any problems with the few 3rd party cables I have, except durability and quality. All have worked.

The only time one did not work was when they switched from FW to USB charging. That was for the adapter I have that plugs into my car stereo to play and charge. It would not charge, but it played. (Silly little resistor.)

Maybe it's specifically the ones sold by Radio Shack, then. I shop the Radio Shack near my work for a lot of little things, but the iPhone connectors they sell normally don't work.

Radio Shack doesn't make much of what they sell, so I don't see a common denominator there.

I believe the 30-pin connector is proprietary to Apple or at least using the correct resistors in it is proprietary and has to be licensed from Apple.

Do you ever have problems with authentic Apple connectors? Have you bought one recently?

Have you checked the connector on your iDevice for a foreign object in the way, like purse or pocket lint?

If you just don't have a liking for Radio Shack that is fine by me, but I don't see a common denominator there, and I assume you are trying to resolve an issue.

How does it attach to the phone?
Since it's not just a case, it's gotta plug into the charger-system somehow.

The only advantage I'm aware of is unlimited data if you don't have a
grandfathered AT&T plan. For that you give up faster data, simultaneous
data and voice, rollover minutes, etc.

Personally, I wouldn't have a Sprint account if it was the only way to get
an iPhone and they gave me the service for free - too many horror stories
from people I know but other areas / states may be different.

ITunes gift certificate spam?

I just received an email supposedly from iTunes. I have never received a gift certificate from iTunes and want to be sure it is safe to open the attachment. It doesn't look legit. I have copied the body of the message :

%%ROT#Dear customer,#Hello,%%

You have received an iTunes Gift Card Certificates in the amount of $50
You can find your certificate code in attachment below.

Then you need to open iTunes. Once you verify your account, $50 will be credited to your account.
So you can start buying games, music, video right away.

iTunes Store.

The attachment is a good reader PDF.

Am I correct in assuming this is spam???

Thanks for your help
