I don't believe those rumors reflect reality. If the next iPhone after the 4S (whatever Apple may choose to call it) is a 4G/LTE phone then the Qualcomm technology roadmap has some telling information. The baseband chip that supports LTE and existing modulations will not be available in production quantities until 2QCY2012. That makes any realistic expectation for an LTE iPhone late 3QCY2012, or sometime around October 2012.

Denise - go for it - the difference from the GS is big from the G it has got to be huge.

Siri is great. The camera use in the locked position and the quality of the camera makes me so glad I upgraded from the 3GS bypassing the 4. I think I am in the sweet spot as far as upgrades are concerned. Will bypass the 5 and pick up the 5s with all the tweaks.

3GS updated OS - Battery Life

Posted by: "jiminmanjr" jiminmanjr@yahoo.com   jiminmanjr

Mon Oct 17, 2011 6:09 am (PDT)

Hey all... I have a 3GS, works great, no problems. Over the weekend I upgraded to the new OS (I believe it's iOS5, for the "technical" name). I have all the features - iCloud, the double-tap camera from Home, etc. Everything seems to be in good order.

However, I've noticed the battery life has suddenly changed. For example, yesterday I was out running errands, and barely using the phone for anything. In less than 90 minutes it dropped from mid-70% to under 40% battery. I've had to charge the phone each day mid-day, even with my average usage.

I'm wondering if iCloud has something to do with it. I am looking for a little guidance.

I've followed many of the posts here about the OS, but not much for the 4S (since I don't have the newest phone). So, maybe this was discussed, and I missed it...

I've done the obvious stuff, btw - double-tap and closed all open apps, a couple hard resets, etc. but the problem still continues.

Any help would be appreciated!

Jim

Hi Jim - there have been complaints even with the new phone. They suggest turning off Ping, location services, Bluetooth etc - just as suggested in years past for battery Life. I just noticed ping was enabled on my 4s so I just turned it off. Will see if it helps. The most drastic suggestion was a complete restore :-0

Sue - Thank you for the prompt reply.

I checked in Settings for my Location Services, and most were turned on... I left on just a few - weather, camera, a couple others.  I don't use Bluetooth, but I'm not sure if there is an "off" for that.

Where do I turn "Ping" off?  I thought that was part of Location Services.

Jim

Hi Jim - settings/general/ restrictions. Enable restrictions then you should see ping under iTunes I think.

Like many others, I find that leaving 3G 'on' drains my battery (3GS) even
when I'm not using it so I keep it 'off' unless I actually need it. I'm now
on iOS 5 and can still switch 'off' 3G while leaving Cellular Data 'on'.

Has anyone who has upgraded on a 3GS had power problems? Some previous upgrades caused the battery to drain rapidly, then Apple released some patches that solved the problem. Anything similar?

You can add her and create a restriction to block purchases or require a pin
for them.

Ping is under Restrsictions:
open Setting/General/Restrictions, scroll down and turn off Ping. You will be promted to set a passcode though which you will need to open Restricions again in the future.

I was thinking changing my iTunes email from gmail to me.com email account
would simply things before I did everything on iCloud.

But, as you say, I can't change my iTunes account to my me.com email. Why is
this?

I guess the best thing for me to do is add my me.com account onto iCloud
(for contacts, calendar, etc) along with using my original gmail account
I've been using for my iTunes account?

This is a little confusing sorting all this out...

Thanks everyone!

But you can't change it to your MobileMe account if you have one already!

iPhone 4s Sync HELP!!!!

Posted by: "Danni" shrinkingdanni@gmail.com   dannitaz

Mon Oct 17, 2011 7:58 am (PDT)

My mom is trying to sync her iPhone 4s to her Windows XP Computer. She has "manually sync music and videos" checked and the "sync music to this device" box under music unchecked. Yet iTunes continues to insist on syncing music to the phone. What is going on and how can I fix this?

Also, we are having serious problems getting pictures to sync to this device. I have literally had to add one folder of pictures at a time to the device to keep it from erroring out. Any ideas for fixing this?

Thanks,

More info has since came to light on why the phone is acting possessed- it
seems thatmy mother somehow managed to activate "AutoFill". Is there any way

What is it in iOS5 that is causing more of a drain than the previous version?

Probably dual core processor, Siri and other background services. It
was listed on the comparison page and during keynote that standby time
was down 100 hours (200 total vs 300 from 4S). Talk time, data usage,
etc are all the same.

Sent from a mobile device, please ignore any autocorrected or
typographical errors.

I just went to AppleID to see if I could change my apple ID from my gmail email address to my me.com address.
And it won't let me. I also tried mac.com address and again it won't allow it.
Why in the world doesn't apple let us get rid of our only reason to have a gmail account!!!

It makes no sense at all.

Did you contact support? I know that I have done this for a friend when
they had a MobileMe account on a family plan and moved to a new iCloud
account and kept the same address and it became their Apple ID and
transferred all of their purchases from an old work (companyx.com) address.

Apple has never allowed anyone to use me.com or mac.com for their apple id. I have no idea why.
I hear Mr. Cook is now interested in fixing this as it's one of the biggest complaints among Apple users.
I am on a thread at Apple Support about this problem. I hope they fix this one day soon.

Can I move to iCloud if my MacBook Pro cannot run OS X Lion?
I don't have the Core 2 Duo, just the Core Duo. So I am being forced to buy a new Mac! :-(
My wife will need one too... and my kids.
I have three Macs that are now outdated....

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Apple announces sales
of four million iPhone 4S units, more than double the iPhone 4 launch
via 9to5Mac by Christian Zibreg on 10/17/11

Apple announced sales of four million iPhone 4S units in the three days
after its launch on October 14. In addition, the company said, more
than 25 million customers have already upgraded to the new iOS 5
software in the first five days of its release and more than 20 million
customers have signed up for iCloud: Apple's marketing honcho Phil
Schiller was quoted in a statement:

iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in
its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the
iPhone 4 launch during its first three days. iPhone 4S is a hit with
customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the
best iPhone ever.

In 2010, Apple announced 1.7 million sales of iPhone 4 during the
launch weekend. The company reported 600,000 pre-orders for iPhone 4 in
the first 24 hours, which included orders placed with overseas carriers.

Following the iPhone 4S release last week, carrier AT&T announced
pre-orders of 200,000 units in the first twelve hours, calling it "the
most successful iPhone launch we've ever had". Apple then confirmed one
million iPhone 4S pre-orders in 24 hours, surpassing the previous
single day pre-order record of 600,000 held by iPhone 4. Sprint
announced its best sales day ever…at noon Central Time.

It should be noted that the iPhone 4S is the first iPhone to launch
simultaneously on three carriers in the United States, available for
the first time on the Sprint network – which together with Verizon,
certainly helped sales numbers. Apple also added Australia and Canada
to the five launch countries it had for the iPhone 4: US, Japan, UK,
Germany and France.

Pre-order went fast and the handset actually pretty quickly sold out
across all carriers following the launch.

Full release below the break:

iPhone 4S First Weekend Sales Top Four Million
CUPERTINO, California—October 17, 2011— Apple® today announced it has

already using iOS 5, the world's most advanced mobile operating system,
in the first five days of its release, and more than 20 million
customers have signed up for iCloud®, a breakthrough set of free cloud
services that automatically and wirelessly store your content in iCloud
and push it to all your devices. iPhone 4S is available today in the
US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK, and will be
available in 22 more countries on October 28 and more than 70 countries
