weather /clock app

Posted by: "Allan Aunkst" aaunkst@gmail.com   tama.drummer62

Before iOS5 I used to be able to have a clock weather app open all night long that I could use as an alarm. Seems iOS5 has changed this, now if I happen to recieve a text or some other sort of notification in the middle of the night my screen will go black and the app is gone thus missing a wake up call from the alarm.

Any suggestions?

The one thing I am really hoping for is that it will do a better job than the native e-mail App of keeping threads together without my having to do a huge amount of searching.

You do know there is an excellent HTML5 interface, just open Safari and go
to gmail.com then tap the bookmark button then "Add to home screen" and it
creates a GMail Web App. Works much better than the native mail app for
Gmail and that is pretty much what this is.

Some of us that use Gmail really like the threaded conversation view
and the way Gmail handles read email vs. unread. If you don't have to
store email locally, it can be more productive to use.

Do you have MobileMe or iCloud set up?
If so, you should be able to set the filter there, as well as, or instead of, in Mail itself.

I was worried about this, but after setting just such a filter, I (extremely quickly) review all such filtered hotmails before actually deleting them, and so far absolutely ALL of mine have indeed been junk.

If it were my grand child, in order to be certain that those pics don't show up I would delete my email accounts from the phone completely while I'm visiting. When I had to see my email I would do it from a computer at their house. That is EXTREEM (forgive the caps iPhones idea) but I'd have less to worry about. Then fix it before going home.

Apple Promises iOS 5 Update In A Few Weeks To Suck Less Battery Life

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Apple Promises iOS 5
Update In A Few Weeks To Suck Less Battery Life via TechCrunch by MG
Siegler on 11/2/11

For the past couple of weeks, I've heard the same thing over and over
again. "The iPhone 4S is awesome, but…" And it's a big "but". The
battery life. It sucks.

Well, to be clear, it sucks for some users, but not all. For example,
I'm not noticing anything out of the ordinary on my device. It's
essentially the same battery life I got with the iPhone 4 running iOS
4, as far as I can tell. But today Apple has acknowledged that some
bugs are causing some issues with the battery life. But they say it's
not an iPhone 4S issue, but rather an iOS 5 issue. In other words, it's
software, not hardware. More importantly, a fix is coming.

"A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery
life on iOS 5 devices. We have found a few bugs that are affecting
battery life and we will release a software update to address those in
a few weeks," an Apple spokesperson told us today over the phone.

"In a few weeks" sounds a bit vague, but it may actually be a bit
sooner than that. This afternoon, Apple issued the first iOS 5.0.1
builds to developers. Guess what's included? Yep — "Fixes bugs
affecting battery life ". They'll need to test this build with
developers for a bit to ensure there are no other bugs, but assuming
that goes well, this should be out soon.

In the meantime, we published some tips yesterday to help with battery
issues if you're having them. Again, the good news here is that this is
a software issue in iOS 5, nothing fundamentally wrong with the iPhone
4S.

I am seeing significantly less battery life on my iphone4 with ios5. And yes I am shutting apps down. My battery will go to 30% overnight with nothing running. I used to be able to go several days without recharging.

My husband could not update his iphone to os 5 from his computer (due to itunes not being upgradeable) so he jumped on mine and upgraded, he later mentioned the warning about losing all content. He did back up on his computer, thinking he could go to his computer to get all his info and apps back after upgrading. UGH! So now I am wondering, can that backup that is on his old mac be transferred to my Mac book Pro, and fix the problem. If so can some kind soul direct me to easy instructions?

iPhone 4 w/ IOS5. Voice control?

Somehow I must have missed the part about Voice Control going away when Siri and iPhone 4s and IOS5 came on the scene.
Or maybe I'm just overlooking a setting?

Last night I punched the home button twice as I have done in the past expecting to hear that familiar plunky tone.....after which I would say "call home" .

Or I would say "play songs by Nanci Griffith" .

Anyway, it's gone.
I'm using an iP4 with IOS 5 .
What am I missing (besides Voice Control).?

Curiously,
John

I think you have to hold the home key down, not press it twice. At least that's how it is on mine. If I press it twice, it allows me to close out my apps.
