Yes, I've talked to them. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, but at least now I know where to look.

Thanks,
Barb

Re: Odd domains that seem to be legitimate

Those are "shortened" links, used to replace excessively long links that tend to get "broken" by line breaks and such. I can only guess that they use top level domains of countries that do not host a large number of sites.

Can someone explain the IT purpose of this pattern to me.

When I try connecting with firewire, the new computer gets stuck on "looking for computers". It just site there and spins.

Steps are:
1. Boot old MBP into Firewire Target disk mode by starting or re-booting it with the f key held down.

2. Start the new machine.

3. THEN connect the machines with a Firewire cable.

Is that what you did?

Yup. The disk mounts, but the Lion Migration assistant never finds it. [T-key]

Re: In what unique ways do you use your iDevice

Well, not very unique, but I'm a collaborative pianist, and I used to use a minidisk recorder to record my rehearsals with people. Now I just use the recording app on the iphone. Very useful. Can record concerts that I play in, too. Not great sound quality but good enough for me to tell whether I need work or not on something.

And, when someone wants a recording of an accompaniment, I whip out the phone, record the piece and email to them immediately. That's fairly geeky!

Click on the "desktop".
In the Finder menu, click on Preferences.
Under General, are the first 3 items checkmarked (Hard disks, External disks, CDs, etc)?
