That's always a tough one. Do you have dupes on iCloud? All machines? Are all events duplicated regardless of which instance created them? Same for deleting. Is there more than one user involved? More than one iCloud account anywhere?
Try creating "traceable" items that contain the information about precisely who created them, where and when, and then trace it's replication on other instances... does it appear instantly as a dupe everywhere, when is it duplicated on the original machine, and so on...

No dupes on iCloud at all. That was probably the first thing I checked. Should have mentioned that!
Just checked Outlook on my wife's PC. Nothing duplicated there either, however, it looks like Office 2010 on Windows handles contact sync'ing differently than OS X. It looks like it basically shows the web page that contains the contacts up on iCloud, rather than actually sync'ing periodically.
Can't be sure of this, but we all know M$'s infinite wisdom when it comes to things like this.
Back to the drawing board.

I have a similar problem, Jay, though my software upgrade costs were thousands of $$ just for 4th dimension and 4D server for several computers. I also needed Filemaker 11, and a new MS Office, plus training for the new Office (was using Word 5.1a and 2004).. If you are used to Acrobat, nothing else will satisfy you, unless you just use it for really simple things.
My solution was to install Snow Leopard Server in VMware Fusion or Parallels and run the programs in a SL virtual machine. I can also still run Eudora this way under Lion.
If you were using Leopard on your G5, you could use Screen Sharing on the Mini to access the programs. Not as fast or elegant, but it works and gives you time to udate the programs.

Preview for PDF. Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner for backups. If you are good at databases, you can use "Base" in Libre Office/OpenOffice/NeoOffice. Nowhere near as elegant and simple as Filemaker, but the power is there and it's free. Consider Bento carefully as it is a limited app compared to Filemaker. Consider the above office suites as MS replacement if you want free. I use NeoOffice on Mac. Still the most Mac-friendly variant. If you want something very elegant and Mac like, go to iWorks. Also supports iPads directly. iWorks will, however, take some serious adjustment moving from Word. It's great, but very different. I was not willing to put in the effort which is why I use NeoOffice which is much closer.
For graphics work, there are many, many apps depending on your level of expertise. Gimp is the most powerful free app, but also complex (like Photoshop). Also depends on your specific needs (editing vs conversion vs organization, etc...). iPhoto can likely handle much of what you want. Graphic Convertor is excellent but might not be right for your needs if you are used to Elements. If Elements has not been upgraded, I'm certain it will be. As much as I hate Adobe, Elements is my favorite graphics app. Very nice balance of power and ease of use.
Cheers,

I just tried what you describe using Firefox and NeoOffice (a version of Open Office) and the Washington Post website. It worked, though what came into NeoOffice was a formatting mess as expected.
How this works in any specific case will depend heavily on both the specific web page and the application into which you are pasting. Every cut and paste involves a complex conversion from the original format (HTML for instance) to the format the receiving application uses internally (Word, Open Doc, RTF, etc...). The cut and paste function itself has it's own unique internal format and cannot handle everything (no Flash animation for instance). Then the receiving app has to deal with what's left and convert it to something it can work with. In some apps, that means throwing away everything but the text. Other apps try to cope with additional info like graphics and formatting and even hyperlinks.
And yes, the function does work slightly differently on PC and Mac and you will not get identical results.
Another factor has to do with how much you highlight. When in doubt, highlight more since much of what you may need is actually "invisible" to the eye.
And finally, in many apps there is a "paste special" command (look under the Edit menu) which may allow more control over precisely what information is pasted and what is not.
Cheers,
tod

At this point I would recommend one of the old troubleshooting tips:
Log into another account on that Mac and try copying and posting. If it works there, then you have a problem with your primary account.

I've always gotten the graphics as well as text. It may depend upon the application you're pasting in to. I've never had an issue with this though.

Harry you are so right. I tried pasting into Microsoft Word and all it will paste is the text. Then I tried pasting into a blank email message window and there was the text and photos. The next program and tried was TextEdit and I was able to get both photos and text.
Thanks a bunch. Now I just have to remember to use TextEdit.

Gayle,
I use Stickies as a great alternative to TextEdit. It's convenientjust highlight text and press a shortcut, (I believe it's shift-command-y, but don't quote me on it), and the selected text and graphics automatically get pasted into a new sticky for you.
Also, there is no saving, unless you close that sticky. Stickies keeps a running database of saves for each new sticky. When you open the app, the sticks are right there, the way you left them.

Looked it up. Here you go! :
Shortcut for a Sticky note
A pretty cool shortcut that is hidden in the "Services" menu. It takes any text you highlight and transform it into a Sticky note in Apple's Sticky application. You just have to highlight text and press "Shift-Command-Y" and Boom, it opens up sticky and create a new note with the text you selected. The only negative is I wish you could select if it goes in the Sticky application or in the Sticky widget (it can only go in the app). This works in any Cocoa application (basically every application except Microsoft!).

Make sure you have Stickies running though. Apparently, as the paragraph below says, it works with every Cocoa app. I'm busy trying that out!!

Hmmm just tried it in Safari and it works fine. I didn't even have the Sitcky app open it just opened and pasted the info into it. Pretty amazing. I didn't get the graphics though just the text. When I first tried using it I was just coping a few lines of an email I had received and it didn't work. Seems you need to do it from a browser window.

Has anyone noticed that Yahoo mail was added to Mail when they installed iCloud?
This is a pay service still. I looked at it right after it appeared in Mail, and there is still a monthly share.
I wonder if Apple has some deal with Yahoo to offer this POP access free of charge?
Has anyone noticed Yahoo appearing? I haven't been billed for this, nor did I agree to pay for anything to do with iCloud.
