Re: Large iTunes Library

I have a four TB External harddrive and I have my iTunes library sorted ny date. I have only audiobooks. When I add new books I move the oldest ones to the external drive for storage. That way I still have my library and if I decide I want to revisit a book I just drag it back to the Mac iTunes.

Consumer Reports and the 4S

Posted by: "Robert" cookrd1@discoveryowners.com   cookrd1

At least the 4S made their recommended list but I think they still got it wrong. They left out Siri, OK. But then they mention stupid 3D pictures on some Android phones? Android phones have a few capabilities that the iPhone doesn't have, and that may be impt to some, such as me, which is why Android is my primary choice. But I think I am in the minority. I would never recommend an Android phone for the average post-pay consumer.

They missed the most impt reasons why the iPhone should have easily taken the top spot - pure Apple (no carrier or manufacturer junk) AND if you have a problem, there are no Genius bars at ATT or Vz. Also, none of my late model Android phones run as well as the iPhone. It is hard for me to believe that the reviewer didn't encounter at least a few reboots on the Android phones - maybe he didn't do any real world testing.

I am not a fan of anything, just a user. My perfect phone, computer and car are still just a dream that seems more distant each day.

Even in Snow Leopard Hungarian is in the input
sources in the last tab, unless you mean what is
available in the first tab???

I understand that there is a dictionary for Hungarian, Barry, but (as yet) there is no spellcheck in Hungarian. I presume that spellchecks exist in Lion (and other OSs) for certain languages. For now, I only use spellcheck in English.

According to Language & Text in System Preferences: "To add an additional spelling dictionary, copy the dictionary file (.aff & .dic) to the Spelling folder in your Library folder."

I was looking for some such thing online when I learned about the Lion OS already having a Hungarian dictionary, though no Hungarian spellcheck.

The last tab (Input Sources) only refers to keyboards, not dictionaries, Barry. The first tab (Language) is a mystery to me. According to it I'm to drag languages into the order that I prefer. Can't figure out what that does.

Thanx. Oneal

No idea if it works there, but have you tried the
wonderful shareware program Spell Catcher? It is
by Rainmaker Research Inc. Don't know if has a
Magyar version, but if anyone did they might.

I've never figured it out either. I think, but
not sure, that it determines what language your
menus, etc are in, but then why not just ONE
language, to choose from, rather than a priority
list?

Re: easiest way to download iBooks from iPad to computer?

There is a free program that allows you to download all the ebooks you want and format that you want. It's called calibre (the c is not capped). You save your books to calibre and then loads them on your iPad, if you want too. Another way is to download one using Kindle for Mac or B&N nook for Mac, and BAM using their Bluefire reader. All of them are free. They download directly to your iPad. I love calibre so if you want to go that route let me know and I'll give you the quick version of adding books and changing formats. You'll love it once you try it. If you are looking for free books join ENT (Ereader News Today) They have 7 or 8 books a day. Yesterday they started charging for books if you didn't have a kindle. Now you have to pay anywhere from 99 cents to $3.99. www.calibre.com for the program.

Then send them a link to download the book as you did.

Hello Randy.

Thank you so much for the helpful information. I did all the steps you listed, then did a restart, and so far things are working SOOO much faster!!

I'm going to save the instructions for possible future use, and if this problem pops up again and what you've suggested doesn't work, I'll take you up on your kind invitation to ask for more help.

Thank you again!!
neelie

I downloaded live365 when someone mentioned it for my iphone4, searched and selected a free channel which loaded and played flawlessly

Problems with Internet Connection

Posted by: "lynxster@ihug.com.au" lynxster@ihug.com.au   four46

Wed Nov 9, 2011 3:37 am (PST)

Having some real problems here today. I'm hoping this may sound familiar to someone.

After shutting down my iMac (OS X 10.6.8) and disconnecting my modem (I'm on ADSL)in
anticipation of a coming lightning storm last night I reconnected my modem and started up again
this morning only to find that all internet apps were "unable to find the server"

Spoke with my ISP - they suggested the fault may be with the phone line to the modem, or the
modem itself.

I picked up a new phone line connection lead and the problem remained the same. Got back to the
ISP and together we tried various changes to the modem settings, all to no avail.

Mogamad Rofiq was extremely patient in trying to get to the bottom of my Internet Connection
problem, and I appreciate his thoroughness.

After extensive testing and resetting of my modem connections we have established that the
internet connection is alive and functioning, but for some reason is not responding to URL
requests (although IP address requests are connected without any probem). i.e. I can type an IP
address into my browser and it wil open the correct page, but if type in a URL (http etc..) it
returns the "unable to find the server" message.

Similarly pinging an IP address returns everything as normal, whereas pinging a URL fails.

I now have the modem connected to an old eMac â€" which is where I'm sending this from â€" and URLs
are opening without any troubles.

So it looks like the fault is somehere in my iMac - any suggestions where to start looking?

regards
George
