Revere, Massachusetts - Independent developer James Hollender has released version 2.4 his "iCarbs - iNutrients: Carbohydrates" app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The iCarbs app allows users to easily find out how many carbohydrates there are in over 1,100 different food servings which is critical information especially for diabetics who need to restrict their intake of carbohydrates. The new version has been updated to support iOS 5.

The iCarbs app provides information about foods and how they are rated for carbohydrate content. This is given as a means to assist in deciding which foods to eat. In addition to being useful for diabetics, who need to make sure they don't exceed their recommended daily amount of Carbohydrates (carbs), iCarbs will also help bodybuilders get the high intake of carbs they want. The following colors help readily identify which is which:

* Black = Rated extremely high in Carbs (45.01 - 166.46 g)
* Dark Red = Rated very high in Carbs (30.01 - 45.00 g)
* Red = Rated high in Carbs (15.01 - 30.00 g)
* Orange = Rated moderately high in Carbs (12.01 - 15.00 g)
* Yellow = Rated moderate in Carbs (9.01 - 12.00 g)
* Light Green = Rated moderately low in Carbs (6.01 - 9.00 g)
* Green = Rated low in Carbs (3.01 - 6.00 g)
* Cyan = Rated very low in Carbs (0.01 - 3.00 g)

There are eight tables listing foods:

* Meat, Fish & Shellfish

The All Foods table includes a search capability to quickly find food servings you are interested in.

Selecting an item in any of the tables will display pertinent information about the selected food serving:

* Weight in grams
* Common Measure, e.g., 1/2 cup, etc.

* Calories
* Percentage of Carbohydrate by Weight
* USDA Description
* USDA Food Group
* USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference ID

Information is derived from the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference: Carbohydrate Content of Selected Foods per Common Measure. There are currently over 1,100 different food servings included, searchable using approximately 2,500 names (some foods are known by different names or how they are prepared, e.g., "Egg, Scrambled" and "Scrambled Egg"). Although originally designed for persons participating in 12-Step programs, it has since been discovered a Moral Inventory can help anyone analyze their life to learn more about themselves than ever imagined possible ... and at only a small fraction the cost of a single visit to a therapist. Create your own personal Moral Inventory using an iPhone or iPod touch.

Although this app is designated "Jr." it still has the same capabilities as the parent app, "Step 4 Moral Inventory" for the iPad. The user interface has been completely redesigned to accommodate the considerably smaller iPhone and iPod touch screen size.

It was originally thought impossible to convert the iPad version so the same tasks could be accomplished on the iPhone and iPod touch, but it has been done and the Step 4 Moral Inventory Jr. app is the end result.

Background:
The Step 4 Moral Inventory app was created because of the complexity and length of time needed to complete a proper Moral Inventory. When persons working their way through a 12-step program start creating their own moral inventory and discover that some ways of doing a Moral Inventory might require a thousand spreadsheets, the task seems daunting and many never get around to finishing it, thus depriving themselves of the rewards a completed Moral Inventory can provide. This app is an attempt at finding a way to make the task less time consuming, while at the same time helping the user create a valuable asset in their recovery process.

Storage of the Moral Inventory data is done using an underlying database which can be backed up and restored as necessary.

Disclaimer - This app is neither officially produced nor approved by Alcoholics Anonymous or any other Addiction Recovery program. From what is known there have been many Moral Inventory spreadsheets circulating unofficially among AA members for at least 50 years in various versions and this app is based on one the developer found to be useful and more comprehensive than most.

Acknowledgement:
Many thanks to "George" and his "Dungeon Prison Complete" spreadsheet which has been used as the outline for this app. This spreadsheet was developed based on years of his own personal research of the AA Big Book, along with help from many others who had already gone through the process of completing their own Moral Inventories. This was done in order to more fully understand the concepts necessary for completing his own Moral Inventory. George's extensive research resulted in the creation of the "Dungeon Prison Complete" spreadsheet, a detailed set of instructions on how to create a Moral Inventory, including several new concepts not directly covered in the AA Big Book: Sources of Anxiety/Excitement as a 4th Category; and a set of Sex Relations exercises. Both of these new elements were discovered to be critical in eventually understanding why we do what we do, the end result of completing your own Moral Inventory.

Anyone, Not Just 12-Steppers, Can Benefit from Completing a Moral Inventory:

The process of completing a Moral Inventory doesn't directly address anyone's specific addition or addictions, but rather helps the user examine in detail events that have transpired in their life. The Moral Inventory app gently assists the user in probing into not only what happened, but also why it happened. The questions asked help the user delve into areas often never considered before like:

* What did I want?
* Why did I want it?
* What am I not admitting?
* What lie did I tell myself? (always present)
* What did I leave out or not say?
* What lie did I tell others?
* Have I ever done the same thing?
* Was it any of my business?
* Were my expectations reasonable?
* What was the real truth?
* What was I not seeing?
* Did I fail to see the facts of the situation?
* What actions did I take to get what I wanted?
* What actions did I omit to get what I wanted?

Sometimes the questions are difficult to answer, but once done, they help provide significant insight into why certain choices were made and, more importantly, determining there are often alternative choices available which will make life so much better.

Instead, players can use links and menus to navigate and interact with the game.

Game author Tim Hamilton wrote the game using Quest, free software which makes it easy for anybody to create a game with no prior programming experience. Quest creator Alex Warren then converted the game into an app for iOS and Android.

"I was a huge fan of Infocom's text adventure games back in the 1980s", said Tim Hamilton. "I played most of them when they came out. I always wanted to make my own games but lacked the diligence to properly code such a venture. Quest was a brilliant find for me as it took care of all the details - it made it easy for me to write my own games. The latest version is now even easier to use, and more powerful."

After a quick tutorial that lets you get accustomed to the very accurate accelerometer control scheme, you are presented with a classically inspired "World Map" screen. From there, you'll begin your adventure by earning medals and unlocking new areas.

My Paper Plane 3 on a whole looks like it was inspired by classic console flyers and that's a great thing! Instead of shooting, however, you'll be challenged to pick up every single star that comes your way, racking up combos and points.
The power-ups in the game range from the expected speed-boost, to a tiny rainbow that shoots your plane up above the clouds where you... well I won't spoil the surprise. Let's just say the game has a great sense of humor and never really takes itself too seriously.

You can choose form one of the seven available paper planes, which you'll unlock by progressing through the game. Two of the most striking ones are the Space Shuttle (R.I.P. old friend) and a paper version of a B2 stealth bomber.

My Paper Plane 3 is very enjoyable to play. It just feels right all around, from the stomping bluegrass soundtrack of Canyon Town, to skyscrapers and pizza shops of Capital City, everything about this game just screams FUN! My Paper Plane 3 is a universal app, and currently Wavecade slashed the price to $0.99 for the holidays.
