I have an iPhone4, preceded by some iPods, Touch, & iPad1, and have never
considered or been encouraged to get an Apple-y account. Apple & iTunes do
just fine with my regular mail account (which I have changed at least once
with no problem.)

No.
Sprints iPhone is CDMA based first, then GSM for outside the US.
ATT iPhone is GSM Only.
So if you buy an ATT iPhone it will NOT work with Sprint unless you ONLY used it outside the USA when traveling and you had international agreement set up with Sprint and had a valid international sim card with Sprint.

Unlocking of a GSM iPhone only allows the carrier restrictions to be removed. But its still a GSM device. So Unlocking is only available to other GSM carriers.

Thats a pretty basic breakdown though.

Technically the 4S is capable of it but requires it to be unlocked.

IOS 5 Reminder App?

Is there a way that the new Reminder app can communicate with my iMac and vice versa? Anything it syncs with on the desktop?

Thanks,
David

On my iPad, Reminder gets synchronized with Microsoft Outlook 2003 on
my PC.

By the way,
I would like it to be usable as an alarm clock, like on my smartphone
(with Windows Mobile).
So far, Reminders doesn't seem to wake the iPad (let alone me), and
only reminds me when I'm using the iPad anyway.
I also have Classic Clock, but that seems to operate independently.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I tried them all with no luck. I also made an appointment at the Apple store and the best they could do was to sell me a phone for $149. My plan now is to upgrade to the 4s after Chirstmass and have my 4 repaired so I can give it to my son.

That said... I looking for the names/website of companies that repair iphones and any feedback on experiences.

thanks

As much as i would like your business.
For individuals i always tell them to look locally.
When it comes to corporate then you can do national searches.

But feel free to contact me off list if you would like some info from me.

Thanks.

You may want to consider Applecare+ for the 4S when you get it.

Moving txt file to iPhone

Posted by: "Rasputin Novgorod" priapulus@yahoo.com   priapulus

I have a simple txt file of customer names and phone numbers
in my Windows 7 machine. I wanted that file in my iPhone 4s
as a reference (that I could also edit in the phone). I did
~NOT~ want to clutter up my Phone Contacts file, by
adding these.

I wasted 3 days, reading manuals, playing with iCloud and
iTunes looking for a way to do this.

My final solution was to convert it to a doc file and email
it to my phone. In the phone, I imported it to Pages.

Someone, please tell me an easier way to share work
files between Win7 and iPhone. Apple does it so
elegantly with photos. I see my doc file sitting in
my cloud; but I can't sync it to win7.

Hi Rasputin - look at Docs to go or good reader or quick office apps in the app store. I think they all allow edits on the phone (for sure docs to go which I use) and they have a sync to the desktop

This seems like a job for Dropbox.

Alternatively, you could use iTunes (on your PC) to push and pull the
file to an app on your iPhone that can handle it.

15 minutes after I complain, I figure it out. Go to iWork.com
log in with your iCloud id, and there are my files. Which I
can up and download.

You can gift songs on itunes, but you need their email address to send the link for thr music. You pay for the song/songs and than they wil receive a link to the downloads that they can then have in their library.

When you find a song you want and click on the arrow next to buy, a drop down menu will come out. Gifting should be on there.

Hope that helps

I once put an older iphone in a shirt pocket, fell out glass broke and had to pay the cost of a new phone to replace the glass. I was furious. I would never take a chance now to not have a good protector. Even though it is bulky and heavy I love my otterbox defender. It has saved my phone glass on many an occasion.

Is it true now that the applecare policies now include a glass replacement at least once? I heard that somewhere. It is about time if that is true!!!

Your "older iPhone" probably didn't have a Corning Gorilla Glass face. These are VERY resistant to scratching and to face-on impact, but still quite susceptible to edge impact, which is why a case, or at least a bumper, is generally recommended, while relatively few experienced users see a need for screen "protection".

When you buy your new 4S, choose to buy Applecare+:

Does the 4 (not 4S) have Gorilla Glass?

I have a different external mic which I bought for my 3GS, and it works with my 4S, much better than the internal mic. The instructions said for best results put the phone in airplane mode when recording.

Hmmm. Leave a 3GS unattended? Do you think it will still be there when you get back?
Software? I just use the built in Voice Memos.

I have a 4S and this mic seems to work.

When I say unattended In the past I've seen students ask to leave
small recorders on the instructor's desk during the lecture. So, it
should be able to stay on for a couple hours without any intervention
and without doing anything distracting. I would not just leave it
there during lunch break! That would be kinda tempting. But during the
class, there are maybe 30-40 professionals with their eyes facing
front, so I think it would be OK on the desk.

Two podcasts icons in iTunes

Weird situation here. iPhone 4. Upgraded to 5. iTunes 10. Did my upgrades several weeks back. Synced several times since then, no problem.

Last night, tried to sync. It did. But now I have two podcast icons within iTunes. One has my podcasts. The other is empty. When trying to sync, iTunes seems to only be recognizing the empty one.

What to do?

Mac. OS 10.6.7

Thanks!
