Problem downloading apps directly to a 4th Gen Touch

I am submitting this problem on behalf of an older friend who is unable to download apps directly to his new Touch. Every time he tries, he gets a dialogue box telling him that he needs to download the app on his PC and then synch with his Touch.
Have had a Touch for many years and never had (or heard of this problem). Can anyone suggest what is required to correct this issue?
Thanks
Don

First, verify that he is signed into his iTunes/AppStore account:
SETTINGS > STORE > Make sure the rectangular button at bottom of the Store page displays his correct Apple ID ("johndoe@example.com "). If it does not, tap the button and follow the screen prompts to login.
Next, make sure the apps he's attempting to download are appropriate for his device per system/iOS version requirements.
If problems still persist, try rebooting his iPod by pressing and holding both the POWER and HOME buttons until the screen goes black and the white "Apple" logo appears.

classic vs touch different

I have both a classic and touch. Several albums that have various artists display on the classic as albums and play as such. On the touch, they show as one song per album and have multiple albums. I have checked the information and they show as "compilation=no". Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?
Thanks

If you change the albums to "compilations=yes" then they will be grouped together as an album.

I just went through this myself. Make compilation yes, should pull them into one album.

Double check other items when you get info. some other items may keep the songs separate even though you have compilation = yes

here is what I posted to another group
The biggest thing I found was when clicking on get info when you click 2 or more files, go to options, and there was compilation option. Clicking this solved about 70% of my issues.
Let me just say, on previous MP3 players I had and used, I never really had as many issues like I did with the touch and iTunes.
On the albums I converted from records, I had to enter all the track information myself. Some of the artist names were blank, some weren't, even though they were on the same album. Lets say I added the right info on side a, but didn't on side b. So iTunes created two different albums. Just entering various artists in the blank artist section pulled the album together.
Some MP3 files, besides having the artist name had the same information under album artist, blanking that solved the rest, but still kept the artist name on the file.
