After searching the web, I came across a quick fix for my app crashing problem. Thought I'd share it.
Download any app, paid or free from the app store. Delete it later if you like. After that all my apps worked again! An odd fix, but I'll take it.

I still have my 3g iPhone, but it's not in use. It's a great paperweight.

There is no reason that has to be the case; the iPhone 3G is still an iPod, camera, audio and video streaming device, gaming device, etc.
Either me or my kids still use my Palm WebOS and Epic devices for many above mentioned functions.
Plus many new people are getting the iPhone for the first time and many are choosing the free 3G with a 2 year contract. Someone would buy yours to avoid the contract.

Why hold onto it? There are places like gazelle.com that pay pretty well for old iPhones. My feeling is - the value will only go down with time, so it would be better to trade in while the value is still fairly high.

Would it make you happier if they'd released the exact-same-product but just
*called* it the 5? (but then people would have complained that it wasn't
*enough* of an update to give it a new number!)
Why are so many people hung up on the name, anyway?

Thank you, Bruce. I have now plugged it in to see what I have. I have forgotten since I used a BlackBerry for a year in between the 3G and my current 4.

Just take a sticker and put a 5 on it, and then it can be called an iPhone 5 for you.
Seriously, I don't care what they call it. It is a huge advancement over the 4 and that is all you should care about, not what the number i called!!!

I'm not understanding this either. I figure the same features that are in the 4S now would be in the 5 had that been what they decided to call it. Would that have made the 5 a better phone?
I was amazed at the number of posts I saw around the time this phone came out from people wondering if they should wait for the 5. When? If its release is the same time period as between the 4 and 4S, that will make it next Christmas maybe. And what if there never is a "5"? I'm happy with the 4S as it is, which is the most current model out.
As for Gazelle, I checked on the 8g 3G price about a week before the 4S came out and it was $55. I ended up getting $53 for it the day after the 4S was released. Haven't looked since, but I'd suspect they're offering less than $53 by now.

There is not going to be an "iPhone 5" - we have the 5th Gen iPhone,
released as the iPhone 4S. Just like processors are on a tick/tock release
schedule, so are iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, even Apple TV, heck
even Macbook Airs, iMacs, etc).
I have to get back to work or rant would be longer but example:
1st Gen iPhone - Revolutionary, experiment to see what worked/what didn't,
full cost to customer, within first few months dropped price by $200,
changed from 4GB & 8GB to 8GB & 16GB, etc.
2nd Gen / iPhone 3G - Revolutionary - changed everything that they learned
from 1st Gen, subsidized by carriers, case changed, 3G from EDGE,
introduced App Store, etc, etc, etc.
3rd Gen / iPhone 3GS - Evolutionary - same design, same sizes, same prices,
slight spec bumps, etc. The 'major' changes were all software.
4th Gen / iPhone 4 - Revolutionary - changed everything, design, processor,
memory, etc.
5th Gen / iPhone 4S - Evolution - spec bump, etc - major changes are all
software.
6th Gen / iPhone 6 or more than like "iPhone 4G" - will have LTE, likely
new design, etc - I will guarantee they are already are and have been
working on design, specs, etc.
iPod Touch did same thing. Most iPod models did same thing, IE nano is
almost same as last year - changes are all software and price drop.
Macbook Air - redesigned in 2010, refined in 2011.
Macbook Pro - redesigned in 2010, refined twice in 2011.
iMac - 20"/24" was there for a couple years with a few changes each year
then the new sizes/models change in 2010 and were processor spec bumps in
2011, etc.

I've used PaperDesk for a couple of contracts I had to sign and date. Had to use a stylus, though. The type tool doesn't work with PDFs. So if you need to fill in a lot of information, it could be tricky.
Hope this helps.

Amazon's "Flow" iPhone App Blends Augmented Reality With eCommerce
Posted by: "Carl W Brooks" carl@iamthereforeipad.com cwbrooks

Amazon's "Flow" app is pretty cool.
Since Amazon's products are usually shipped free (over $25) and without (immediate) sales tax, it is cool to at a store and point your camera at a product and immediately get a price for the item.
The App is super fast. Point the iPhone, with the app open, at the cover of a book, video game, or movie and instantly get a result.
It works well with the items that it recognizes whether you are scanning a barcode, front of a physical item or a picture on a store flyer.
It doesn't recognize everything, but promises that it constantly adding new items to the database.
Obviously Amazon will collect data that can use to add items that it previously didn't carry as users reveal that they have interest in buying from Amazon.
Thanks,
Carl W. Brooks

Hi everyone,
I'm the one who sent this question in, but seemed to have missed any of the earlier responses. Forgive me for asking again, but is it safe to carry your iPhone next to your credit card or electronic key fob in your pocket? I have the (bad?) habit of letting them touch each other all too frequently. I've only had one incident of the CC being demagg'ed.
Thanks for all the great information you all share!

Two Questions (Pretty Please)
Posted by: "wowmaw2001" WOWMAW@aol.com wowmaw2001

Hi!
I'm pretty sure that this has been addressed before, but I don't know if maybe the information has changed by now, so I will really appreciate any help.
I have an AT&T iPhone 3GS and my 4S is supposed to be delivered today.
1) My husband's Blackberry is with Verizon through work. Am I correct in assuming that an AT&T iPhone won't work with Verizon because of the different technologies?
2) If my husband can't use my 3GS, I want to give it to my daughter. She has an AT&T go-phone. Can I (or someone that knows what they're doing) switch out the SIM cards and let her use my 3GS with the go-phone SIM card?
Thanks again!

> 1) My husband's Blackberry is with Verizon through work. Am I correct in assuming that an AT&T iPhone won't work with Verizon because of the different technologies?
Correct - except the 4S has both GSM (ATT and T-Mobile) and CDMA (Verizon and Sprint) radios. It may be possible to "jailbreak" it to use any carrier. But that will void the warranty, and any future IOS upgrade (including the one coming shortly to fix the battery life issue) will un-jailbreak the phone.
> 2) If my husband can't use my 3GS, I want to give it to my daughter. She has an AT&T go-phone. Can I (or someone that knows what they're doing) switch out the SIM cards and let her use my 3GS with the go-phone SIM card?
I'd definitely go to the ATT store - they can get almost anything ATT to work. Worst case scenario is a new sim card - they are getting rid of old ones that are incompatible with improvements in their network. And I suspect that can utilize T-Mobile bases as well as ATT for better coverage. I had an ATT store employee as much as admit it. So a trip to the ATT store may result in better coverage for your daughter.

But that will void the warranty, and any future IOS upgrade (including the one coming shortly to fix the battery life issue) will un-jailbreak the phone.

Worst case scenario is a new sim card - they are getting rid of old ones that are incompatible with improvements in their network. And I suspect that can utilize T-Mobile bases as well as ATT for better coverage. I had an ATT store employee as much as admit it. So a trip to the ATT store may result in better coverage for your daughter.

to sell iPhone citing 'unacceptable' terms via BGR: The Three Biggest
Letters In Tech by Todd Haselton on 11/4/11
U.S. Cellular CEO Mary Dillon recently said on a conference call that
her company turned down a chance to sell Apple's iPhone. Dillon
explained that Apple's "terms were unacceptable from a risk and
profitability standpoint," FierceWireless noted on Friday. All is not
lost if you are a U.S. Cellular customer looking to carry the iPhone,
however; Dillon didn't rule out possibly picking up the device at a
later date. As FierceWireless points out, it is a bit strange that U.S.
Cellular turned down the device when another regional carrier, C Spire,
announced recently that it will begin offering the phone on November
11th with an unlimited data package (sans streaming). Perhaps U.S.
Cellular is holding out to see how C Spire fares with the iPhone and
Apple's "unacceptable terms." Or maybe the carrier is waiting for a 4G
LTE iPhone — Dillon explained that U.S. Cellular expects to blanket 25%
of its network with 4G LTE by the end of this year, with phones
launching in early 2012.

Limited Data Plans Need to Watch Their Siri Usage [Iphone 4s] via

Siri, the iPhone 4S voice recognition assistant, is very useful! But if
you've got a low-level data plan—say, AT&T's where you get
200MB/month—you should be careful. Ars Technica ran some tests and
found that if you use it 10-15 times a day, you're going to use about
27MB a month. More »

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: With just 4% of mobile
market, Apple owns 52% of profits via BGR: The Three Biggest Letters In
Tech by Zach Epstein on 11/4/11
Apple's iPhone accounted for just 4.2% of the mobile handsets shipped
in the third quarter of 2011, but the company still managed to rake in
more than half of the industry's profits. Among the eight top cell
phone vendors in the world, Canaccord Genuity analyst Mike Walkley said
Apple accounted for 52% of total operating income between them. The
figure is down from 57% in the second quarter. Samsung accounted for
29% of profit among top vendors, up from 18% in the June quarter, and
HTC accounted for 9% of total operating income. RIM's value share slid
to 7% from 11% in the prior quarter, and Nokia dipped three points to
4%. Read on for more.
"Apple generated a remarkable 52% value share of estimated Q3/C2011
handset industry operating profits among the top 8 OEMs," Walkley wrote
in a research note on Friday. "With only 4.2% global handset unit
market share, it is remarkable Apple captures more than 50% of industry
profits."
Walkley also made it a point to highlight Samsung's meteoric rise among
smartphone vendors. "Demonstrating the importance of a strong
smartphone offerings relative to industry profits, Samsung gained a
remarkable 11 points of value share sequentially with its leading
Android Galaxy S II product offering," The analyst wrote. "RIM and
Nokia lost a combined 7% value share due to its aging smartphone
portfolios that are in transition."
Canaccord now expects Apple to ship 29 million iPhone handset in the
fourth quarter of 2011, up from the firm's earlier estimate of 27
million. Walkley also increased his price target on Apple from $545 to
$560 with a Buy rating.

I took a 2.5 minute video that I need to email to someone and the 4 tells
me that it is too big. Is there anything I can do? It says I can email a
part, but it's an entire entity that needs to be sent.
Can I download it onto itunes and then send it? If so, how?
Thanks lots.
Carol
