Apple’s Supply Chain Secrets Revealed

Posted: 04 Nov 2011 03:30 PM PDT

Have you ever wondered how Apple maintains such high profit margins on products like the iPad? The company manages to do so in an industry where other manufacturers like HP and Amazon reportedly take losses on their tablet sales.

Perhaps the biggest factor in Apple’s operational success is the recently-named CEO Tim Cook. Cook spent the last decade turning Apple into a well-oiled machine. Bloomberg reveals this and more in a recent article about Apple’s supply chain secrets…(...)

Facebook and Apple: Two Frenemies Against Google

Posted: 04 Nov 2011 02:06 PM PDT

Fortune has a good article about the battle between Facebook and Google for control of the web. Deep inside the article, there is an interesting snippet that suggests Facebook and Apple are still talking to join forces against their common enemy:

That last point is not lost on Zuckerberg. It has prompted him to seek closer ties with Google’s biggest rival in mobile: Apple. The two companies have held multiple rounds of discussions, according to people with knowledge of the talks. But they have yet to find a compelling way to collaborate, perhaps because their courtship got off to a rocky start. [...] That Apple chose to bake Twitter, not Facebook, into the most recent version of its mobile operating system has not helped. Still, the two companies continue to talk, knowing full well that an alliance could help them fend off a common enemy.

Of course both companies have been talking for a while and they’ll eventually reach to an agreement where Facebook will most likely be integrated in iOS, just like Twitter is.

I invite you to read the full the article as it’s a very interesting piece that sheds more light on the war between Facebook and Google.

Meet the US Carrier That Turned Down the iPhone

Posted: 04 Nov 2011 01:15 PM PDT

FierceWireless is reporting that Mary Dillon, the CEO of US Cellular, told investors this morning that the nation’s 6th largest wireless carrier was recently given the chance to carry Apple’s hit smartphone. And the strange thing is, they turned it down.

With companies like T-Mobile chomping at the bit to carry the iPhone, it’s interesting that US Cellular passed on the opportunity. Especially since other CEOs, like Sprint’s Dan Hesse, see the handset as the number one reason why folks switch to other carriers…(...)

AT&T Expected to Merge With T-Mobile in “First Half” of Next Year

Posted: 04 Nov 2011 01:15 PM PDT

AT&T has leaked its estimation for when the T-Mobile merger will close in a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Spotted by Electronista, the filing says that AT&T expects the merger to take place in the “first half” of 2012.

Several organizations, including the US Justice Department, have kept AT&T and T-Mobile battling with the courts since AT&T announced the acquisition back in March. If all goes according to plan, T-Mobile will be owned by AT&T before Spring of next year…(...)

iControlPad Finally Available, Brings Physical Controls to iOS Gaming

Posted: 04 Nov 2011 12:00 PM PDT

We’ve been hearing about the infamous iControlPad for nearly three years now. We first reported on the accessory back in 2008, when it was still in early stages of production. Then we didn’t hear a peep about the product until the Summer of this year.

The iControlPad was soft-launched back in July, but it still had some major hurdles to overcome. The inventors didn’t have any major distribution partners, and third party compatibility was non-existent. But that has all changed with ThinkGeek’s support…(...)
