EFI is the boot device that the Mac uses. It is basically a replacement for BIOS. It stands for Extensible Firmware Interface.

That happened to my 2 yr and 11 month old laptop; the genius just looked at it and went to get another battery to replace it.

See:

Macintosh OS X Routine Maintenance
http://www.macattorney.com/ts.html

Dealing with cookies is done in your Web browser of choice. If you
are using Apple's Safari:

In Safari:
Safari menu --> Preferences --> Security --> Accept Cookies --> Show
Cookies

You might find this book really helpful if you are new to the Macintosh:

Mac OS X Lion: The Missing Manual

Is anyone on this list aware of transcription software for the Mac? We
have it for the PC but as it was given to us by one of our clients, we
do not know the name of the program. It automatically locks on to the
video's timecodes and reproduces them on the screen in the appropriate
place at the press of a button. The sound is accessible via foot pedal
and earphones.

Olympus DSS Player for Mac. The AS2400 and AS5000 Transcription kits
come with footswitch, headphones and software for Mac and Windows. The
Mac software is nowhere near as fully featured as the Win software but
is about the only game in town for Mac. I have successfully run the Win
version on my Mac using VMWare Fusion. Not sure about using it to
transcribe from video though. Supported file formats are: .DSS .DS2 WMA
MP3 and WAV

This is the industry standard for the Macintosh:

ExpressDictate
<http://www.nch.com.au/express>
is a computer based voice recorder that works like a dictaphone and a
dock station for a portable recorder. You dictate using your computer
or a portable dictaphone/notetaker and send your recordings to your
typist or assistant by email, internet or over your computer network.
RRP $70(Single Professional, No Encryption), $80 (Medical/
Legal, Includes Encryption),
ExpressScribe
<http://www.nch.com.au/scribe>
is professional audio player software designed to assist the
transcription of audio recordings. It is installed on the typist's
computer and controlled
using the keyboard (with 'hot' keys) and / or can be used with a
transcription pedal. This computer transcriber application features
variable speed wave playback, foot pedal operation, file management
and more. This program is FREE.

NCH also offers Macintosh compatible foot pedal controls:
